Now that all is said and done, it was a fine championship. If they want to toughen that course, leave the fescue alone and just tighten the fairways. Done. They should go back.

That would disrupt the architectural intents of the design though. The fairway bunkers would be less in play, recovery attempts would be limited, decision making/strategy would be limited. These are all golfing skills one should have to navigate throughout an event. They also make up a large portion of what makes the game fun. Only people with low self esteem enjoy seeing others suffer.

Struggling and suffering are two different things. I like to see the US Open become a struggle, mostly mental. This corse is better suited for a Ryder Cup, not a US Open

Brooks Koepka was the best player this week no matter the course.

3rd in strokes gained off the tee

1st in strokes gained approaching the green

3rd in strokes gained putting

1st in strokes gained total

Is it mathematically possible to win a golf tournament and not lead the field in total strokes gained? I'm being serious, I have a hazy at best understanding of the whole strokes gained thing.

It's like reading a different language for me

I still do not understand these stats and what they mean

did anyone notice Speith changed putters again?

Considering he finished T53 I missed it.

How did you miss it Thrill? They showed more of him than they did of Koepka. Every single shot...

Then the interview afterwards of course. Why interview him? He sucked. Where is the interview of Matsuyama, who finished second and moves to #2 in the world? Oh yeah, he ain't no white boy. Kinda sad.

Who wants the ball rolled back? Seriously. These ads write themselves: "The new 2018 Pro V1 and Pro V1X. Sure they go 10 yards shorter than last years. But you should still pay $60 for 12 of them". USGA needs to stop playing at public courses for the sake of playing at public courses. Or, find some that have more to them than a 7,800 yard driving range with greens on it. I don't want to rag on Mike Davis, I doubt I could do his job but he and the USGA has screwed up so many damn times now in the past couple years. I love the U.S. Open. However, there is a reason why the U.S. Open and the PGA championship are different tournaments. I don't want to watch two PGA championships in a year.

My best friend is interning with the USGA and just sent me a good snap haha. Wants everybody to know who he got a selfie with!

She has very nice and concentric teeth. My wife has those as well. Comparisons end there. You're welcome PGArox guy. Married is a choice. It's expensive either way but at least this way I get to enjoy celibacy. Ha.

A few years ago when he decided to forgo the Web.com and went to go play on the European Tour's Challenge Tour, he bet that it was the fastest and easiest way to become a pro. Quickly he got valuable experience and made it to the European Tour. He learned how to travel, manage his time and rocketed up to the Top 50 in the world to begin playing events in the States while still maintaining his Euro Tour card. He showed serious talent, but I didn't think he would get his first major within 3 years. Well done young man. You seriously earned it!

THere's a lot of old courses I'd like to see host the open. Unfortunately technology has made them obsolete. Roll the ball back and you no longer have to trick up US Open tracks.

And finally someone mentions the elephant that's been sitting here laughing at us all. 3 wood 3 wood into a 680 yard par 5? Either the card lies , the wind was 40mph behind them or the ball flies too straight. Which is it ?

Agreed.

Bethpage and Torrey are epic, and it's REALLY cool that there are US Open tracks out there that you can just slap down a greens fee and play, but that doesn't mean that it needs to be overdone. This is two courses built solely for the US open and neither have worked.

If there is a public course out there capable of hosting a US open then by all means take it there, but don't build one assuming it's going to work out.

I know a lot of people like to see the Pros struggle at the US Open... I do too...

-16 is not what we want to see, but it doesn't diminish Koepka's win. The greatest players outside of Phil showed up and most didn't make the cut. He won in dominating fashion today... period!

He's your US Champion until Shinnecock Hills next year...

The great players faded because the course played a putting contest crapshoot. Spin the roulette wheel and here's your US Open winner.

Folks, I'm starting to get the feeling that sekrah was a little disappointed this week.

I don't get it, if a course can be 7,000 yards and tough, great. I don't give a rats a** if some guys can't use driver on shorter courses- hit a fairway wood or an iron then. Golf isn't a driving contest. Tiger won the open hitting irons all day and no one complained that he wasn't alllowed to "be himself". Hit the shot the course calls for, this isn't long drive.

This wasn't a US Open today.

It used to stand for "toughest test", as The Open stood for "nature's major", and the Masters was the Invitational (PGA top 100)...but the US Open wasn't the US Open today.

I could live with Chamber's Bay - only -5 won there, and while the choppy greens were a let down, the course was pretty - water, trains on the course, it was not bad in hindsight.

I felt like Rory bastardizing the record books at Congressional was the worst taste left in my mouth after a major (perhaps), but this is worse than that.

This was like the Bob Hope Classic today.

Yeah, what was up with that?!

How many "par 4s" today were 500+ yet these guys murdered this course???

Today I saw JT carry a drive 275ish. The wind must have played a big factor, or something is a bit screwy.

Merion was very short by today's standards...and it took no prisoners.

Random observations. Tommy Fleetwood's caddie must be 6'6" or more. Not once did I hear one of the "mashed potatoes, bababooey" idiots. Well done, Wisconsinites. Brooks Koepka can play, as well as hit it long, very impressive. I realize that the USGA cannot control the weather, but counting on dry hard conditions in the Midwest at this time of year is going to leave any course defenseless when that is the defense. It may be the size of the course, but the crowds seemed a little light. Par 5's no longer exist, at least at the tour level. Holly looked good, but it must be time consuming to have your outfits done with body paint. I would like to see a casual round with Koepka and DJ. The oddest Open I have seen, but life will go on.

I wasn't necessarily enamored by the course or the tournament. Having said that, Koepka played exceptionally well. Look at some of the scores that the stars (that actually made the cut) put up and one can see that this was no cakewalk.

Hats off to the guy, hope he can use this momentum going forward.

USGA should've made par 68. Then, it would have been one for the ages, right? Even par, and a worthy champion. Instead, we had this sideshow of jokers making birdies where no birdies should have been made.

Hell, I think par should've been 22. That would show them.

They kept saying the pros were walking 9 miles! How in the world does that course measure 9 miles walking? It's what, 7,800 yards. Most golf courses I play when they are 7,000 yards are about a 4-5 mile walk. I mapped this one out on Google, even using the farthest tee boxes and only go to 5.35 miles. Factor in some more distance for practice and moving around on the greens and you might get to 6, maybe at most 7 miles. But, I still don't see how they get to 9 miles? Am I wrong here?

You can not be serious? The patrons at this event were terrible. There were numerous bababooey calls, far too many get in the hole and even a "Say Hi to your Mother" out there today.

Crap course half trying to be a links and ends up being nothing.

But you can play it for $260!!!

I've played better courses for 50.

I've played great courses for that amount as well. $260 for a course that isn't iconic is ridiculous. In fact, $260 to play a round of golf is ridiculous...

Are you OK with $500 for Pebble Beach?

Congratulations to Brooks! Love that he took an "alternate" route and was able to experience what he did. One thing I'd like to chime in on is the interesting dynamic between when younger guys versus veterans win a major or their first major. When Sergio, Rose, Scott, Mickelson all won their majors they were overcome with emotion after and all had rewarding/humbling press conferences. When I watched Koepka today I felt he was a bit too conceded, almost acting like it wasn't a big deal and assuming he'll win more. I mean there's a great chance this could be the highlight of his career and I hope he's truly enjoying it.

Do you hit your 3-wood 299? I don't.

It's all because of the ball.

Oops, wrong thread

Has Johnny Miller made any public comments yet about JT's 63? I imagine him stating it doesn't compare to his 63 because of the course.

Yes... said :"Hat's off, but you can't compare it to my round at Oakmont" He has some validity there, but Miller has always had a chip on his shoulder as he played against Jack in his prime. He was a GREAT golfer that lived in the era of the greatest ever, so he is going to hold on to what he can...

And quite frankly Miller is right.
