He's not them and doesn't have experience. People think TV talent make a lot of money, they don't. None probably has a contract for the rest of the year around $100,000, and that's being highly generous.

I just have a hard time believing he would still work for 100k or whatever, is my point. The guy has made what 2 - 3 million per year for like 20+ years, he doesn't need to go work for what he considers pennies.

Rory likes to strut around and be a big man but he's quite emotionally vulnerable and sensitive. So does he go for someone who will enable him or challenge him?

Are you a close personal friend of Rory's, or a clinical psychologist who has evaluated him before? I'm curious how you determined he's emotionally vulnerable and sensitive?

I put my tinfoil hat on and reached out to Ferguson. Turns out JP might be a long lost step brother of Bones and as soon as Phil heard this news he called Rory and told him to kick JP to the curb just like he did Bones. Phil had JP blacklisted on all the mens tours so he can only caddie in the LPGA.

I went to The Open and you could sort of sense it, very little talking or walking together at all. I'm not sure if this is Steve Williams' thing but he was 50 yards ahead of his group every hole, might see them two link up?

I also think all the praise Greller was getting made Rory think he was missing out a little, did JP do much?

Speith has got Rory fired up it seems could be a great year for golf if Rory starts dropping putts.

I don't think it's uncommon to see a caddy walk ahead of the players to get to the ball first and get a head start on the yardage.

The four favourites to replace Fitzgerald

Harry Diamond

McIlroy may well have looked at the success story of Tommy Fleetwood and his best friend Ian Finnis and decided that he and the former Irish international can work the same magic. However, Diamond is a successful businessman.

Joe LaCava

McIlroy is close to Tiger Woods and do not rule out the possibility of the latter telling his friend that he can employ his bagman. LaCava is rated as one of the best in the business, having worked for Fred Couples and Dustin Johnson.

Jim “Bones” Mackay

Phil Mickelson stunned the game in June when announcing that, after 25 years and five major titles, he and Bones had split. Has since signed a TV analyst contract, but would be an ideal fit for McIlroy. Was never scared to question Mickelson.

Jonathan Smart

Perhaps a left-field choice, but McIlroy and Danny Willett’s former caddie are friendly and “Smartie” is admired on the circuit. Another fine player in his own right, the Yorkshireman could be a wise pick in ensuring the focus remains on the golfer.

I don't understand why people don't see it...Rory could put a damper on Tiger GOAT, if he had ANY passion for the game (actually reminds me of Fred Couples) Rory doesn't show up until the eighth 9...then it's too late. Fire your caddie? Okay. Need a greens reader? Okay (Rory makes more 20 footers than Jordan). Fact of the matter is, until he shows that he loves the game of golf, I wouldn't bet on him to win another major.

Compared to Spieth, Rory is a has been that can't/won't keep up with the "younger" generation.

I agree with he has no heart or passion for the game, Speith is the best putter in the game hands down, you can call it, greens reading, skill or whatever but he has it.

Rory is streaky at best, when he's hot yes he can over power a course, raw talent absolutely.

The reason Tiger ruled the pga for over a decade was because he had the desire to be the best ever. I don't see that I'm Rory at all. I'd say Speith has it more than Rory.

That would be my guess, sure. Even in this thread someone said JP had made 1.6M on Rory's bag this year alone and he hasn't exactly played a lot.

Phil's made about $80M prize money in his 25 years on Tour, or a bit better than $3M/year.

Bones gets 10% of that, maybe less. Probably has some other income, but not millions of dollars more.

Caddies do not get 10% of all earnings. Where in the world do you people hear this nonsense?

Every player-caddy deal is or can be different. It's almost always a salary, plus 10% of WINNING purse and perhaps a tiny, tiny percent of other earnings, but that's rare.

Whoever Rory ends up hiring I have a suspicion that person will make a bit more money than I do :/

Nobody said that

And I dont think for one second Phil and Bones had a regular contract, and as far as I know caddies get more than 10% for wins and top tens anyway.

The "standard" is supposedly 10/7/5% of purse for win/top ten/made cut, plus salary.

The blended rate for Phil might be around 8%. Bones is an established caddy and is/was Phil's bud so maybe he got a bit more.

There's also the odd Euro tour event, Ryder and Presidents Cup, appearances, etc.

I'd say 10% of Phil's PGA Tour winnings is a pretty good approximation of his income. Its a good living, but not close to 2-3M/year.

Edit: I can't see how JP could be close to 1.6M this year. Maybe last year, if Rory gave him a big share of the Fedex Cup money.
