looks like his contract wasn't even up, they mutually split. wonder why.

There have been rumors for a while that his contract ends at the end of the year. They usually go through the end of the calendar year instead of the PGA Tour seasons, so I’m assuming they’re letting him out early now at the end of 16-17 season instead of waiting until January. The TM release did say releasing him from “the remaining years” of his contract so maybe it wasn’t about to expire or had some kind of option.

This is also all tied to the sale of TaylorMade earlier in the year. It's a business that was performing poorly. The new owners need to consider every option. A mutual decision to part ways has a lot less meaning (likely none) after an acquisition like this compared to a parting of ways under "normal" circumstances.

Like I said earlier, he was Adidas's baby. When he's being paid to wear the hat and carry the bag of the parent company that used to own the club company, what is he worth to the club company as a standalone business?

Anybody think tiger had a hand in this ?

I almost posted something about that. Tiger probably told the new TM owners, you have 12 months to dump Sergio if you want me to sign...lol

Please go to PXG

Please NOOOOOOO!

I don't want to see my favorite golfer end his career with Bob Parson's.

I can't see him wanting anything to do with Garcia either.

I think he should play Mizuno irons and Callaway woods, no specific reason....

I have exactly zero inside information on this, but because I like to speculate as much as the next guy on Golf WRX, I'd say . . .

This is a win-win for both parties: Sergio gets to cash in on a recent major win and renewed interest in his brand (and Callaway seems to be throwing absurd amounts of money to acquire new companies/players right now), while TaylorMade gets to immediately shed payroll for a player who was really the face of adidas, rather than TaylorMade.

TaylorMade has already assembled a younger, more demographic-friendly stable of players (Rory, DJ, Rahm) with a longer potential upside.

Considering Sergio has been testing out Callaway equipment for several weeks, it wouldn't surprise me if this departure/release was orchestrated prior to the signing of Rory (TM knowing they would be freeing up cash) and with the participation of the new owners.

He should go to Mizuno, or at least just use the irons. It where the smart players are all going...

Scotty Cameron GoLo 5R Putter & Cleveland Frontline Elvorada (whichever is behaving the best)

Agreed it's a win-win. I don't know any numbers but let's say that Adidas was worth 75% of his combined contract. Even with a modest contract with someone like Callaway he could easily Triple what the 25% for playing TM clubs would have been equal to.

Tiger has been a flop for TM

Rory has been more of a flop then Tiger. He switches to TM from the Cally stuff and starts playing worse then last week he switched back to the Nike ball and dumped the TP5X which according to him was the reason he signed with TM.

Whoa I didn't know that! That's a serious blow to the story.

What a funny cycle this all is. These guys sign contracts for so much money to play equipment as if they're securing their retirement. Then they switch because the desire to win trumps all else, regardless of the blow to their credibility.

Is that 100% confirmed that Rory played a Nike ball last week? That would be major news and this thread is the first I've seen it....

There was a picture floating around over the weekend that looked like he was using a Nike ball. It isn't extremely clear though.
