If TM has Rory and Tiger why do they need Garcia? And i'm not taking a shot at Garcia it's just reality.

I'm sure TM will sorely miss Sergio, especially the optics that they got from his tv time...

Like the time he abused used a Spider:

And the time they got all that exposure for their new M1 fairways when he had another run in with a different putter:

Or most recently, the time he famously fought a bush at the Open. And lost.

Am I the only one that doesn't care? Or maybe I'm just the only one that doesn't care AND read this thread?

If you don't care, why post to the thread? Disingenuous at best..

I'm a fan of Sergio and his approach in his later years. It is a difficult task to change, and even if it is only his outward expression, it isn't easy for any person to learn, develop, and execute a change. He has overcome some difficulties, even if self imposed. As well he has overcome tough tournament losses in the same vain as Greg Norman and even Phil which makes his story that more appealing.

In a Fox Business article (April 10, 2017) quoted Bob Dorfman, executive creative director at Baker Street Advertising in San Francisco, "Garcia should attract renewed attention from companies looking to partner with a champion..." With that said it is not unrealistic to think that Sergio and his Agent felt he deserved some of the estimated overall increase of 3m within his portfolio. His value globally probably means more to Adidas than to TaylorMade.

Regardless he will be just fine and frankly he will find much better irons to play to compliment his well known excellent ball striking. I hope he gets that Open Championship.

I get what you are saying, but I have a hard time believing the Taylormade irons were holding him back. DJ seems to be playing pretty well with their MBs, and a lot of guys are playing well with the 750 irons. Sergio won his only major with the 750 irons, so I would think they might have helped more than hindered his ball striking.

I think he could have won with just about any brand irons, I just think it's odd to say the irons are hurting his scores.

Of anyone, equipment change is a regular thing for him he seems to have every new club in the bag right when they come out so very doubtful that matters. He could hit a junior set better than anyone here probably.

As of today Sergio is still wearing his Adidas cap with Taylor Made and M1 logos on either side. I thought the deal ended immediately.

Totally forgot how that goober fought the bush. Thanks for the reminder!

I saw guys still playing Nike clubs and they still had Nike balls on the range at the Safeway open, who knows?

If TM has Rory and Tiger why do they need Garcia? And i'm not taking a shot at Garcia it's just reality.

Tell that to Nike who had a Woods who actually played. When you think of Taylormade, do Woods and Rory come to mind? I can't imagine too many non-WRXers thinking of Tiger and Rory as TM guys.

Sergio is getting older so he's less attractive from a marketing perspective. TM has a young fiery Spaniard in Rahm who has wider marketing appeal among key demographics compared to Garcia. TM milked Sergio's major victory for what they could, it's time to move on, it's just business.

Well Rors had more top 10 finished and is higher than Sergio in the OWGR sooo....

this narrative that Rors is washed up is weird.

I'm pretty sure McIlroy would swap all those Top 10's for a Masters.

He's certainly not washed up, he just isn't head and shoulders better than the rest like he used to be. He'll win again for sure, but it won't be a major.

He probably didn't have any Adidas hats without TM logos on the side handy. The deal just ended this week. He's still playing his TM clubs as well while he "tests" other equipment.

Sergio is a nice guy, met him a few times here in Austin and very approachable. I loved his ball striking, imo no matter what equipment he use his game and ball striking is not going to suffer. heck he used new clubs every time TM release new clubs. :)

He's won 4 majors at the age of 28, he's doing just fine.
