Iron headcovers - yay or nay?

Recommended Posts

I used to use them all the time and never really had an issue losing them. I would just take them off and slip them in my pocket and put back on after swing. Then I just decided to let them go bare and have for 4 years or so. Now seeing this poll makes me wonder if I should get some more to go back to them to protect the forged irons some

There are other options if you want to avoid bag chatter noise and damage.

I know it's nuts but this is my set up with forged irons on a cart. Other than the cast wedges, nothing touches anything else. A lot of thought, (and many beers) went into this.

I say, do whatever you want. Many here will call you a hack for having them, but who cares. My next bag is going to have iron head covers, a brush on the side, ill be wearing cargo shorts, ill have a ball retriever in the bag at all times and martini tees.

Never used them until recently. Went years hating the sound of irons rattling around as we drove over the course. My regular playing partner got a set, I noticed how much quieter his clubs were, so I bought some too. Could give a flying F what anyone else thinks. And for the few comments I've read saying "never would I let someone play with me that used them", please get the stick that's firmly lodged up your back side out. Why do you care? I'm sure that person could find something about you that annoyed the s*** out of them too.

If you're man enough to take the inevitable ridiicule, then go for them.

Β

Find some way to secure them on your bag however, because the little buggers somehow grow legs.

Normally I wouldn't but my brand new Ping G400 irons have that crappy finish coating Ping is using these days. Unlike the bullet proof Pings of old these new ones will show scratches and can look like hell in no time. At some point I'll probably take this finish coating off but for now...Ping shipped the irons with covers on each and I've kept those on....for now. No bag chatter though.

Never use iron headcovers. My forged JDM set is all dinged up but I’d rather lose value on some irons than lose dignity.

I usually don't care what anybody does as long as they play ready golf and show respect for their playing partners. I have used iron covers before when my irons were new, but took them off because my irons were starting to rust a bit in certain spots.

Using iron headcovers is the golf version of not being able to walk to the bathroom.

If you use a cover on your putter, you've already lost your dignity ;)
