I played a set of Ping G irons for a few years. Then I picked up a cheap set of old Mizuno's on a whim - that first flush 7 iron stuck to about 5 feet felt like none other.

I do agree with the results of hitting a par 5 in two for sure. For me even better yet is flushing a long iron from 200+ out and not feeling like you swung.

Pretty hard to top an ace, but in terms of power and precision, striping a 3 wood to 10 or so feet is pretty awesome.

Β

I still think hitting a putt with the exact line and pace I want is something to appreciate every time it happens. Very rewarding.

Β

Putting has always been a thorn in my side so I agree with you that it is rewarding when you do have it going well. I've had 5 aces in my lifetime and those are fun to have but I would trade those in on being a good consistent putter.

Well yesterday I striped my drive on 18 further then I ever had over what is referred to as pensioner's hill (again a long hit for me) to almost the 150 mark. A Sunday pin tucked in the back back corner over the bunker. Wanted to hit a fade to the middle (seldom reach in two) and hit it straight into the bunker left of the green leaving a 120' shot to the pin on the other side. To me this is the hardest shot in golf and yesterday I caught it perfect and watched it stop 3' from the pin. By far the best feeling and has me excited to get back.

  • Blasting a 3 wood off the tee - something about the crack of it that for me is better than the driver
  • Flushed long irons
  • Escape artist up and downs (or just ups I guess, since we're only talking about 1 shot)
  • A nicely thumped wedge from the fairway

I used to get a smile on my face when I could smash a low trajectory long iron with just a hint of a draw on it. I even got a few exclamations from other players when it was well struck. The ball would run for what seemed like miles. :)

Yup, a smoothed 3i where the swing tempo is perfect and trajectory is perfect feels so good. You always get cursory 'nice shot' comments even when you didn't quite catch it right, but when you hit this shot, you can tell the 'nice shot' comments had a bit of awe in them.

Β

Another plus one for this...I play a hybrid now because, well, I suck, but the 3 iron always comes to the range and gets more attention than I should give it because I just love hitting it.

The course I used to play in Longmont, CO had this relatively short par4 for the 10th hole. Water on the left, with a creek running through the fairway that I couldn't carry with driver. So more often than not, I played 3 iron off the tee. One Saturday, we were stacked up a bit and we had a foursome standing behind us on the tee that looked like two fathers and their sons.

Β

I proceeded to stripe my 3-iron down the middle, out driving two of my playing partners t-shots. Right after I hit the shot I could hear the boy's exclamations. Kinda put a smile on my face. :)

I posted earlier that making a meaningful putt to close out a match is the best, but a smoked driver off the deck is pretty nice, too. I hit the driver on my second shot to keep it under the branches of a tree on a long par 5. That left gap wedge for my third shot, which took a big first bounce, then short-hopped into the hole for an eagle. I'm still glowing over that hole a couple weeks ago.

I would have to say that the feeling of hitting a driver dead center off the tee watching it soar down the middle of the fairway and not having to search in the woods for it is a great feeling. Although last year I had my first out of the bunker birdie to what felt like 6” of green to work with, when really it was more like 6’. But watching that ball release ever so slightly and drop was quite the experience.

First off, I've got to say that OP Jeff always comes up with good thread topics....

Β

I like to try to work the ball both ways, on almost every club longer than 9 iron. My favorite shot is pulling off a shot where I start the ball on an intended line, and work it back to my general target area. I get alot of enjoyment out of that, and it keeps golf interesting for me. It kind of turns it into a game within a game. ie; how did I score on this hole?, and, did I work my shots from tee to green as attempted?

Β

I do this just for the enjoyment of the challenge. I'm am no hot shot, so good that I have to "work" the ball. I just try to do it for the fun of it.

Β

Another one of my playing partners is the same way. It's fun..., we both watch each other's shots, and call what we're trying to do before each shot.

Β

Hit em good
