Ping ie1

Hey guys obviously I’m late to the party here on these irons. I picked up a set from the bay 250 3-pw like new condition, gotta day I’m impressed with feel and performance. Coming from g25 irons( loved these irons but couldn’t get over the offset). My thoughts if the ie1’s feel this good how do they compare to the i200 and more curiously has anyone hit the i500’s?? I’m gonna bag these for a year and wait for the 500’s to drop in price. Just wanting to know peoples opinion on these. They feel to me like the glide wedges which I love.

Thanks again and keep the ho’ing going!!

My backup set is the Ie1 iron and I'm a die hard Ping guy.

That being said, I thought they were just an "ok" set. Ive had 3-4 other Ping sets I liked a lot more.

The feel and looks were ok and for me the finish wore off them in a season or so (Although I do play and practice a lot). Bag chatter would actually scratch them. The blue I thought looked cheesy on that back badge. I had to send 2 clubs back to Ping as I had badges fly off during a round.

I've done better with Ping.

I'm still liking mine. I thought the feel was a little better in the 200's, but not by a huge amount. I believe that IE's were a little more forgiving.

Yah the look or appearance of them doesn’t scream ping iron to me, but they are a nice looking club. I was trying to find a set of i10 irons ( all time favorite ping irons) I love the old ping finish it could withstand anything!! All this being said I’ll send them in at the end of the season to get refinished and tumbled. The great thing about ping is when they refinish your clubs it’s literally like getting s brand new set of irons in the mail!!

Yeah the service is second to none.

I have seen pictures of the tumbled ie1 and they look great.

I play these irons and haven't demoed anything else since I got them. I think they are a very "honest" set of irons in that you get out the swing that you put in, while they are quite forgiving.

They don't go crazy far or high or anything, when you look up the ball is where you expect it to be based on the swing you put on it. I use iron covers so chatter hasn't been an issue.

hit both the ie1's and i200 quite a bit outdoors last year before buying the ie1's. I personally felt the ie1's were softer and more forgiving, especially the longer irons. Have mine with the modus 105, great combo. Have also hit a lot of the newer ping irons, and feel the ie1's are just as good. Love the look of the new stuff, but ever since ping started to thin out the faces, they sacrificed the feel.

I played the ie1s very well in CO with their lush fairways. Tried playing them a couple of times here in AZ with very tight fairways, and I was having trouble.

I still have them, but am currently gaming a set of iBlades so they're sitting in the garage along with my Titleist sets. I may play them again, we'll see. I do like to switch clubs just to mix things up sometimes.

Both the ie1s and i200s are cast from 431 SS and I found their feel quite similar. While I won’t disagree the i200s look cleaner in appearance, I don’t understand why so many hate the looks of the ie1s. I personally think they look better than the i20s and i25s.

I just bought a set of iE1 irons, my first Ping i series.

Coming from more ‘players CB’ type of irons i find these a joy to hit. I dont play as much as i used to so I decided to sacrifice the traditional look that I normally like for something more forgiving.

Really enjoying them so far.

My i E1's are the set that I won't get rid of because no matter what I try if my swing goes sideways I can stick them back in the bag and get a decent round out of them. When I am swinging well they are workable and very easy to hit. In my opinion, they are Ping's best performing long iron that I have tried. Good distance, no ballooning, workable in both directions, and the trajectory can be controlled as well. I've also found, for whatever reason, I don't catch wild jumpers out of the rough like I would with my Anser Forged or S55's.

That's a great find on a wonderful set of irons.

I will agree with detractors that they are uggggggly. An iron fit for the true performance over aesthetics enthusiast.

Old conversation, but I just got a set of ie1's with Recoil shafts and wow, what a difference.  I must have tried 3 or 4 different sets with different shafts (PX, CFS, Modus, and 1 more I can't remember) and the Recoil 95's really woke up the head for me.

The lofts are pretty strong, so no trouble keeping up with current i-models or g models.  I still feel confident in maneuvering the ball around too.

Anybody else tried them with Recoil shafts?

I went from the Ie1s (loved them) to the i500s and hated those!  Looking back, I should have given them more than three rounds, but I ran through 5 sets of irons in 3 months.  Some I never even hit.

settled on Titleist CNCPTS.

Best of luck!

I still have a set of Ie1 irons with Modus 105 stiff.  Really enjoyed playing them, but I have moved generally to graphite shafts.  Would love to try them with Recoils, but probably not worth it for me to get these re-shafted.  If I wanted to go that direction, it would probably make sense to just do a new set of current i or G series irons.

I actually recently picked up a used set of 919 Forged irons with Recoil 95 F4 (stiff), and I think the shafts are great.  Enjoy.

The Recoil 95's made a big difference for me.  They have the best combo of feel, height, distance control and obviously, shock absorption.

Of all the other shafts I tried in ie1's, the Modus 105's went the highest.  The Project X's felt the most stable, but went low, and I didn't care for the CFS's at all.

I just had to eventually get to the right answer.

Played ie1 for a season.  I had dgs300 in mine and don’t think you can’t find a more stabile feel through the ball.  Very soft nothing feel when struck well.
I just put g710 with dg105 regular in the bag and it is a different feel.  very lively but I’ve learned to love it. Think the i500 feel much the same as the g710 so be ready for a big change in feel when you get the 500.

I'm sure it's been discussed in other threads, but can anyone comment on the feel of the i210s vs. ie1?  Still have the ie1s in the bag, but getting the itch to try something new.  I'm If nothing else, the look a lot better in the bag.

I played the ie1 and loved them. The cosmetics were always a drawback but they felt fantastic and performed really well. I found them to be less heavy/clunky than i200.

What I did with my ie1 set was stripped the paintfill in the back (using Citristrip). That eliminated that light blue strip and gave the back of the club a clean, pure grey/silver look.

I abandoned my ie1 when the iBlades came out, but I never had any complaints about the ie1. Nice set. The gap wedge in that set was one of my all-time favorite clubs.

Up until 2 months ago I played the ie1. Had them from the release date. They've been really good irons for me but their getting pretty beat up. I found an i200 set in great condition with the same shaft I was using so I got them. I cant tell a difference between the 2 sets. Hope this helps even if its not exactly what you're asking.

Still play the ie1's, but trying to decide whether to send them in to ping and have the lofts strengthened by 2(getting older), or I was looking into a set of srixon z585's. Had a chance to hit some used ones indoors,  wrong shaft, but they felt really good. Anyone played both for comparison?

You’ll lose the same in bounce on every club.  Set will play different.  Better to just say now I hit a 7, 150.

Still play the ie1 irons, going into year 5. I will regrip this winter and send to PING for refinishing this year or next - these can be refinished by PING, many newer models cannot. I continue to say the same thing year after year with these - for me there are just no surprises, and that is what I look for in an iron. On top of that they are plenty long enough with more than ample forgiveness.

Entering season 4 with these still in the bag.  Coming from 10+ years in several different G-models, these are my first i-series and I like their blend of forgiveness and playability.  Hitting them too well to justify spending $$ on a new set of i210s.  With that being said, however, I always keep an eye out for a used set in white dot 😀
