I think I'll wait till TROS shows up in one of my streaming accounts to watch it, but I've been quite disappointed with the new trilogy films. Disney didn't ruin Star Wars by any means (I loved Rogue One, liked Solo and have been all over the Mandalorian) but the story component feels duct taped together as if they had no vision. Again, that's just how I personally feel about the story.

Similar vibe with the last two seasons of Game of Thrones. Incredible production value, good acting, but the resolution in the context of its own universe makes no sense for the characters.

So the SNL with Eddie Murphy was pretty much as bad as I thought it might be. The opening monologue really held some promise though when he brought out some fantastic guests. I was hopeful that they would be part of the rest of the skits but no such luck and I thought the rest of it fell flat. I thought that - including the monologue - all the jokes or skits he was in were just a few minutes too long and really trying to beat people over the head with it. REMEMBER WHEN EDDIE MURPHY WAS FUNNY AND DID JOKES AS BUCKWHEAT - THIS IS FUNNY TOO EVEN THOUGH ITS 30 YEARS LATER.

I dont know. Maybe if you are in your 20s or early 30s and never saw some of the "good Eddie Murphy" stuff, it was funny?

For me it was the nostalgia factor and I really, really wanted it to be good.

The show was mostly as I feared. . .a bunch of "remember this".

But, I loved the monologue (there were several funny jokes and the Cosby thing was epic -- Cosby's people have responded). The update of Mr. Robinson was funny (and just what I predicted), but Buckwheat and Gumby were basically member berries.

Most of the reviews I've seen have been worshipful. The Ringer review mentioned a couple times how much he screwed up reading the cue cards but then just said, "whatever". No. You don't normally forgive people for screwing up reading and murphy doesn't get a break either.

The Ringer even said he brought the show an "edge". The Black Jeopardy skit has historically been really clever and subtle and edgy (the Tom Hanks one, the Sterling Brown one e.g.), but this was the least edgy one I've seen. It was just shoe-horning another character into another sketch.

All that said. . .it was still cool seeing the SNL GOAT. The reason that Velvet Jones seems lame is that people have been building on that type of character even since Eddie created it (Ladies Man, a couple Keenan characters (like the one with the video tapes of different position)). So all credit to Eddie for that. But also. . .Eddie just has "IT". he's got a face, a presence, a naturalness that you just can't duplicate. It's fun to see him. So, while I didn't think Gumby was well-written, I think it's fun to just see Eddie yelling insults at people.

Overall, I dug it, but just thought it could have been better.

Same. Like I said, nostalgia factor kicked in. The thing I thought was really cool during the Weekend Update was it felt like there were a couple points where Jost/Che were just honestly dying of laughter and thinking "man I am on the set right now with Eddie bleeping Murphy".

The Tom Hanks Black Jeopardy is - to me - is the all time 1 seed. So I measure every other one against that.

My trackman numbers with the hybrid I had were gross. I want something I can hit 200, and the one I had doesn't come close to that, and that's largely because I can't consistently hit the center of the face with it.

 

I tried a few, and I was making very good consistent contact with the one I ended up buying. They didn't all go straight, but they all went the same distance. It has an Aldila NV green hybrid shaft, but there must be a ton of hotmelt in the head or something. Ultimately, that's probably what made it different than the others.

That NV shaft is fantastic.

I had a chance to hit the PXG 0211s this weekend and was surprised at how great they felt for the "cheap" model. Also made me think though, when the guy was talking about how soft they feel - isnt some % of how soft that ball/club contact is related to the ball? Been playing the Chromesoft the last few months and that ball feels soft with any club.

Per Star Wars family tradition, took the whole family to see Rise of the Skywalker.

Aweful.

No real plot, bad dialogue, ridiculous events and no real climax or conclusion. Strictly a Disney event to make money.

Don't waste your time even when it becomes available via streaming.

Very disappointed.

Loved SNL, it was fun to see all of the old Murphy bits again Dont really want to see them on a regular basis but a great flashback. As for The Rise of Skywalker I am sure some will praise it but I stand by my opinion that it sucked.

I can state unequivocally that Domes' bag showed up. We had a board meeting for the Hive Saturday and he had it.

Merry Xmas. Wife has been sick, which got us out of going up to Christmas with the inlaws yesterday, so that was a win. She was also asleep for most of the day so I watched a bunch of hoops and drank beers.

I played 18 Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. I think there's about 10 people in the office today, out of 150. At least the stalls are available.

Very very low key Xmas this year. Having it on Wednesday didn't help. We had 4 people over on Saturday. On Tuesday, we ate a friend's house. The highlight was their youngest kid had these new Star Wars pajamas and they were so big, he was pulling the waist up over his shoulders and doing dances from Fortnite. That's a pretty good look.

PGA Championship Long Drive Competition: Bryson DeChambeau wins at Bellerive

Bryson was one of the longest guys on tour when he wanted to unleash is previously. Wonder if the bulk helped him gain a few mph or not.

Reporting in, from sunny Ethiopia. Shockingly, the golf course (yes singular) is better than expected! Has a range and 18 holes and should at the very least keep the skills rolling until I get home, Id say its about on par with Prince William Golf course. Getting some trips lined up to play in Kenya, South Africa and Swaziland where they have some pro condition level tracks. PS if anybody is eyeing something from sunfish headcovers I have a 50% coupon code, just pm me.

Rules question Friday : got a text from a guy (he can chime in if he wants) today. . .ball came to rest between two railroad ties at PB Dye that defined the edge of the bunker.

One of the ties was loose enough that he could move it (which he did) without moving his ball.

What's the proper ruling in this situation? I thought I was correct in my initial judgement, but had to look a couple things up.

It looks good. It has the same top as my titleist stand bag (both "rigid" 3-way, if that makes sense) which adds a little bit of weight, but it's still light. It's got more going on than some of the other sunday bags....more pockets and things....but I think if you keep it packed really light, it still fits as an ultra lightweight bag for less than a full set. The Bigger pockets should fit a Nalgene bottle in it, which is nice.

 

Doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it, even though it was from Proozy's Wholesale Pyramid Schemes. Hoping I'll be able to use it this weekend.
