Waverly was fun yesterday.

 

The course is excellent, as I'm sure most are right now. The fairways and greens are firm, and the greens had a just right speed to them. You felt like you could be assertive with your putts, but not careless.

 

The golf was solid. We did the 6-6-6, which city already recapped. It felt good to compete, and be a factor in matches.

 

Until we return the vast majority of people to work, public golf is going to be a slog. It just is. There's nothing we can do, but roll with it.

 

I think I'm having a light bulb moment with putting with the flag in. I have a big moss putting mat, which came with this little flag stick that I never used. I decided to put it in the other day, to help me try and get over my aversion to putting with the flag in. I've always putted with my last focus being on a point on the edge of the hole where I want my ball to enter. Seeing the flag in that picture just really messed with me. I saw it as an object to be avoided, or as something that made the hole smaller. So instead of just trying to do that, I changed my focus completely. I started focusing on where I wanted to hit the flag stick. Boom. It's almost like the hole disappears from my visual field completely, which I think has a net positive effect. City on the practice green before the round was talking about how easily he can putt a ball into another ball, and hit it dead square. It's sort of the same thing. You're sort of forgetting about whether or not you're going to make a putt, and just trying to knock your ball into something. Much more data will be needed, but yesterday was a positive first go with this approach.

You used to be able to go to GHIN and just look up a handicap. With the new system, you can't. you need to log into GHIN to look one up and Maryland doesn't use GHIN.

Got in a round at Bull Run this morning, was the third group out after the mandatory members go off......played 18 in 2 hours. Course is in great shape, hadn't mowed the greens yet today and were a little crunchy but once we hit that back 9 they were cut and ran much smoother.

Of note: Due to the convo here the other week, tried 8 differently than normal and just used like a 5 iron, then 9 iron in to 10 foot birdie. Def came around quick to the idea of not having to deal with that ridge and awkawrd number as you get down close to the hole.

Yup. Just for shits and giggles, I looked up my hole by hole performance on that course on the Grint. #8 plays as my second best hole (relative to par) after #2. That strategy (I play 5w to the flat) has served me well.

I'm a few months behind the pack on this but binged the Mandolorian last couple nights. Really good, very enjoyable. Surprised at how seamless it was given that they had 4 or 5 different directors. Started watching the follow up series they had as well talking about the making of the show.

Disney+ is actually a pretty good deal right now, $12/mo for Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ access too. If those are things that you're already going to use or pay for like we were, its a good package.

Media Talk Friday ;

Watched the new "The Invisible Man" yesterday. Really good.

I got rid of D+ after Mandalorian was over and I realized that there was literally nothing else I wanted to watch. I'll get it against when Mando restarts. I've just already seen every Star Wars or MCU movie multiple times.

I JUST got rid of youTubeTv. Not in favor of Hulu+ or Sling or anything. Just got rid of it. I've known for a while that I'm basically paying $50 a month for the Golf Channel, but it's really hit home since the Plague hit. It really bothered me when they went from 40 a month to 50 a month and went, "BbuT NoW u gET HgtV!!!!" There's a service called "locast" that lets you stream local tv so I have all the networks (no DVR or anything). They'll interrupt to ask you for a donation, but they're cool with $5 a month. I just don't watch regular TV ever. Sometimes wife turns on morning news .We watch SNL, but I can do with out it, or catch the highlights on youTube/insta.

HBO MAX added some nice properties to what you already got with HBO NOW. They have Turner Classic Movies, GHIBLI studios (think Princess Mononoke), Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, the DCU, Warner media properties are either all there or coming.

Man those ribs look good. Finally bought a membership at the Costco next to my office and man they have a really good/good priced meat selection. Lots of rib options, a good selection of briskets and two packs of pork butts. Bought a two pack of 8lb pork butts for @ $30. Have a really good espresso chile rub I am looking forward to getting on one of those next weekend. Definitely going to need to add separate freezer down in the basement at this rate.

Two more good rounds this weekend, not at all interested in going back to work tomorrow.
