Who came up with this general consensus?

For Holy Moses, apparently I surpassed the allotted amount of quotes to reply to.

Probably the same consensus that gives a normal Tour caddie 10% for winning

To me it feels like if Kuch would have paid him 50k, there would have been rumblings, possibly not as loud, that he didn't give the guy the full amount as regular caddie. Remember Kuch has won millions on tour and could spare the money according to some.

I respect your opinion and agree to disagree on this one. Don't want this thread to turn nasty as evident by the comment above about being from the south etc.

If Kuchar would have paid him $50k, Gillis would never have tweeted anything and we wouldn't be talking about this tonight

Are we reading two different reports? Agreed to a bonus plan that would pay him up to $4,000. That seems to me to $3,000 + $1,000 for a top ten. Exactly what he said.

You claimed that Kuchar was a nice guy and paid Ortiz a little more than what they had agreed on, but they had supposedly agreed on $4k if Kuchar got a top-10 so Kuchar didn't above and beyond what he claimed to give? Maybe I am misunderstanding you.

Go ahead and quote where I said anything about Kuchar being a nice guy. Go ahead, search this entire thread. Kuchar’s quote, at least the one listed here, said $3,000 + a bunus structure that could have taken his pay to $4,000. He paid more than that, which is what I said. I never alluded to it being wrong, right, or indifferent, just quoted the numbers listed.

I'm thinking the claim of being offered $15k and turning it down is total b.s.

Not going to fault Tucan. He's naive, got in way over his head listening to others. Good one Gillis, dirtbag.

“Speaking to GolfChannel.com Wednesday at the Genesis Open, Kuchar confirmed the $5,000 figure as well as the report that he subsequently offered an additional $15,000 which Ortiz refused.“

Thanks... Missed that. Maybe Kuchar can really rub it in and next week in Mexico City he can donate $15k to a local charity in Tucan's name.

What a mess... Too bad it looks like Kuchar has laid it to rest. Many of the posts her have been quite entertaining for a rainy day.

The IF game is tough because we never will actually know how it would have played out.

The caddie was fine until at least one reporter, Gillis, Mr. Plaid Shorts, et al. started "explaining" to him what he "should" have been paid - as they were exploiting him as part of their own desire for social media "fame" - that's still what this is about. It was none of their business.

If the caddie was fine, why was Tucan pissed off at Kuchar's cheapness long before Gillis started tweeting?

He wasn’t per the original reporting.

You sure about that? One of his tweets referenced how much a regular tour caddie gets.

You misspelled your regular tour caddie.Local guys would never get any where near that.

Always an advantage closing a deal in English

With someone who doesnt speak English ; )

Hey, Toucan, you gonna carry my bag for nothin, right?

Si!

BsC, I can’t believe you’d quote it that way, you know full well the next sentence of my post referenced a possible miscommunication.

I wouldn’t expect that of you.

DSS! Yes, I did see that sentence and thats why I made my post, that was the humor.

But if you look at your post, that like in gone. Didnt even realize it when I quoted yours.

Wasnt looking to misrepresent your post at all.

Cheers

Actually, I see the post you mean, I didnt quote that one. Either way, this thread is a classic for sure.

All good man. It just appears to me that the language situation may have been a factor and I added that because I do realize that is a distinct possibility.

It makes me wonder if the tour will try to implement something where they have someone on site to make sure everyone is on the same page when they go out of the country for tournaments. Quite frankly it could have saved a lot of trouble if there had been a good go between who could have translated.

You are right. I read Kuchar's comments wrong. I thought the $1,000 was his bonus on top of the $3,000.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

It appears Gillis took care of that previously. When he spouted off without knowing the true story.

Gillis was pretty close to the truth.

Funny, I never heard him say anything about Kuchar paying more than the amount they had agreed on. Which now appears to be the real truth.

Kuchar didn't pay him more than he agreed to. Read Kuchar's comments: $3k base plus $1k for a top-10. Your real truth is not what Kuchar said. Gillis was a little off, but his point was that Ortiz was underpaid and that is still a valid point.

How so? was he paid less than the agreed amount? Of course not... This is all about feelings at this point

"5k is a good week" is an idiotic thing to say. My god Matt.

It is a good week for Tucan. But it isn't a fair week.

"fair"

It's like nails on a chalk board.

Has any PGA, Web, or LPGA Tour player in history paid such a little % of their championship winning prize to his or her caddie even if using a local caddie? I doubt it. Kuchar was known to be cheap before this and he has done nothing to change his image.

there are a couple stories dated 11-13 november that talk about how tucan was going to cash in. One November story stated while he may not get the full 10 percent a regular caddie might get, but would still hit it big or something

I feel it's fair for you to send me 20% of your salary every month, I'll PM you my PayPal info.

Kuch payed more than the agreed upon amount.

Of course not? According to Ortiz, there was no agreement apart from base pay.

That explicitly contradicts the Kuchar quote where he referenced a bonus structure. It really seems there may have been problems in communication.
