There is no reason why Kuchar shouldn't have just said he messed up and should have paid him the $50k that Ortiz wanted. That is a number that a lot of people think is fair. More than what Ortiz got, less than the 10% that Tour caddies get. Trying to say that Ortiz was paid well is a terrible look and I don't know if Kuchar realizes how bad this is for him. Streiny has clients that are unnecessarily cheap for some reason.

 

I worked as a stockbroker for a while in the 90s/00s...when brokers moved firms, their "book of business" would get distributed to the other remaining brokers in the office. The clients reflected the personality of the departing broker the vast majority of the time. When there was a friendly, warm broker...the clients were generally the same. Etc, etc...

 

My guess is those golfers who hire Steinberg are very similar as well.

 

PS. I could be completely wrong, and just basing this off of some anecdotal evidence!

1. Matt seemed fairly clear on what he was paying Ortiz, but somehow Ortiz had no idea what his pay would be depending on where Kuchar finished. There was some disconnect.

2. The only PR nightmare is Kuchar being unnecessarily cheap.

 

I bet Kuchar pays him the extra $45k sooner or later.
