Its tough, the ground always stays so much colder than the roads/cart paths, that looks like at least a few more days of melt.

Serious question though, why is SR not open and selling cocktails around the fire pit? That was such a great post round spot, think it would be a pretty cool hang spot if you cant be out playing. Sell some smore packs and irish coffees?

For SR - I am guessing it has not become a 'spot' to hang out...no matter how nice.  They reall y need to have a nice or at least decent restaurant.

Where do you guys store extra things in between rounds? I'm going to bring an extra set of shoes/socks/clothes and definitely don't want to put them in the bag.

The starter shacks and hosts at each course will keep your bag of extra shoes/socks/gear. They tag it with your name/time and are very good about not letting you leave without it.

For all the years I have being going to Bandon and playing 36, I have never done this. I always pack extra socks and if time allows I will whip back to my room to change shoes. It makes perfect sense that they would do this. (just like if you buy something before teeing of they send it back to your room).

I will keep this in mind for my 2024 trip.

On a nice day I could see chilling out there a bit. The food is actually very good.

If you're only playing 36 I find a change of socks is sufficient unless it's raining and your shoes get wet.

Yes it is fine for me typically, but I tend to go for 5 or 6 days 36 a day and I find every bit of managing foot health helps including fresh shoes in the afternoon. I walk 54 holes most weeks, so my feet are pretty tough, but 180 holes can be allot so I take plenty of preventative measures as it easier to prevent a foot issue than fix it.

Strategy question for Pacific Dunes #3.  I can't reach the green in 2, but I can certainly reach the center hazard off the tee.  Has anyone tried playing over to #12 fairway?  Looks like a wide open tee shot.  Hazard free 2nd shot.  Leaves about 130'ish to the green from a great angle.  With an early tee time, you won't be impacting other people.

I've played (unintentionally) from the far left, basically between the fairways of 3 and 12. There's a ton of room over there but it brings in more of the bunkers and mounds on the left side of 3 as you get into the layup area and near the green. If going for it in 2, it's a really good angle as you take that hellish front right bunker out of the line of play. And still fine to play from there if you are laying up.

As mentioned above, there's plenty of room down the left, or even right of the center bunker. I'm trying to remember, but from what I recall going left off that tee didn't even feel like an option, that's going way out of the way, and a decent carry over a bunch of gorse. It's hard to tell from the images and preview, but there's a similar bunker in the middle of 12 that could come into play as well, but I can't really get a feel for the distance on that. Would be awful to try to go out of the way to avoid a center bunker and hit one on another hole.

If not going for it in two I'd just take something else off the tee. I know there are obstacles, but there's a lot of room there.

Doesn't look like fish tacos at Trails End is an option any more.  They are only grab and go and I don't see them on the menu.  When we go in June, we're doing McKee's two nights and The Forge the other.  There is so much good food at McKee's, can't go wrong

Well, that’s a bummer. I’ll destroy their poke bowl instead.

Bandon food question:

What are the can’t miss food items at Bandon? Ones I’ve heard:

*Pastrami sandwich at Sheep

*Fish Tacos at Trails

*Energy balls

Anything else?

Fish tacos haven't been on the Trails menu for a long time (even though I keep asking for them to return).  Here's my fav's:

Pacific:

Grilled Cheese

Seafood chowder

Nathan's hot dog - more aligned to a solid Chicago-style dog than a puny weiner from a steamer.

Steelhead

SR:

Black Forest Ham breakfast sandwich

Pastrami sandwich

BLT

McKee's:

Popper burger

Shepherd's pie

Meatloaf - can be hit or miss, but it's a must-do at least once

Trails:

Breakfast wrap

Poke bowl

Tufted Puffin:

Bandon burger

BLTA

Blackened chicken club

Truffle Mac & Cheese (from the adjacent Forge steakhouse)

"take that, you miserable little white swine!"

The meatloaf was terrible and the bartender rightly tried to talk me out of it. Should have listened to him.

Dry, way too much salt, didn’t love the sauce/gravy.

Got hailed on 3 times, bitter cold wind, rain, and snow flurries. My lifesaver was a balaclava I brought along. Don't think I've seen it mentioned much, but if you're expecting cold weather, definitely bring a balaclava and extra pair of rain gloves in your bag.

How did your umbrella hold up to the wind? Thought about getting a new one before next weekend.

I would say nothing is really 'must have' at Bandon. The food has dipped in quality and consistency over the years. Don't get me wrong I am not saying it is bad, but if  I was driving by on the Highway at meal time, I would not stop.

Having said that....

Trails End - Bulgogi Beef Sandwich (the Kimchi gives it great flavour)

McKee's - Have the meatloaf. I agree with above it is coin flip these days, but it can be really good

Sheep - The Lamb Stew is good as is the Hoagie

Pacifc - Can be hit and miss, but the pork chop tends to be good and they will have some good specials at dinner.

Forge - It is pretty good across the menu - a bit overpriced for what it is. No reason to go with the Wagyu or Tomahawk as the prep can be off and on so no reason to risk such an expensive piece of meat. The sides are good - and I hear they cure cancer.

I sound pretty critical, I am not. It is really good golf course food. Just nothing special compared to stand alone restaurants.

No umbrella. Full rain suit with the balaclava over waterproof cap.

On another note, I have a caddie question. I've been tipping $50 per round for a total of $150 per round. But due to frost delay this morning, we're probably only able to get 27 holes in. Planning on 27 holes tomorrow to finish up the trip for an equivalent of 3 rounds. I was originally planning on 36 today and 18 tomorrow.

Would it be acceptable to pay my caddie $250 for each day of 27 for a total of $500 for 54 holes?

In heavy wind and rain I personally think umbrellas are useless. You spend a lot of effort trying to keep the umbrella in check and still get wet.

GoreTex head to toe is the recipe.
