1) Tiger loves Pebble!

2) Tiger is the reigning Masters champion, and is having a great season.

3) Tiger doesn't need to hit drivers off the tee on this course.

It seems to me that 95% of the time one of these guys ends up in a divot, the announcers groan...and then the player knocks it to within 10' or so.

Why Tiger can't win this tournament.

 

1) Tiger hasn't won in Pebble in 19 years, and there has been some 20 odd tournaments held there since he last won. Granted, he doesn't play in all of those ATNT tournaments there, but if he loves Pebble, why does he skip them so much?

2) We are in mid June and Tiger hasn't finished within 8 shots (eight!) of the winner in any tournament except for one. Tiger was playing a lot more consistent and threatening more often during his come back year last season.

3) He might not need to hit drivers, but he's just as crooked off the tee with any other club (unless it's a par 3). See last year's Open Championship Sunday Holes 11 and 12. When he misses with drivers, at least he's close enough to the hole to maneuver something given the rough isn't penalizing (see Masters), when the course however is setup like US opens - he usually goes home early. In fact, Tiger hasn't seen the weekend of a US Open in SIX years.
