Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round 3)

Recommended Posts

Play my last round of the year yesterday and finished off the season with  75 so I can say I’m satisfied with the year. Got more than 20 rounds which was a bonus. Next year going for 25 rounds and placing in the top 3 of both tournaments ( McHenry Am & Sr Am.)

Prairie Isle was great yesterday. Greens were really good. Conditions were really good in general. Finished it up hitting #18 in two and finishing with a birdie.

Good way to finish the season if it's the end. Not sure the scramble will happen on Saturday.

Leave in December for 3 weeks in Florida to finish up the year. Not near enough golf this year. But a new build house, baby boy, and building business has been great.

You must have hit 2 excellent shots to get there in 2!  Nice bird.

Played Downers Grove yesterday for the first time. It was in decent condition and the layout is great. Wide open after the 1st tee shot.

I grew up in Downers playing the DG Golf Course... interesting history. It was actually the first 18 hole course in America and was originally Chicago Golf Club before the park district bought it and sold off the land to become the 9 hole course it is now. Always fun to get back there.

I got in another round at White Hawk today. Went Black to Red since they had just punched Grey and Silver. The greens for Black and Red were in the process of healing but still had some visible punch marks and had been sanded. They were rolling at about a 9 on Black and 10 on Red and were smooth enough. Tee to green the course was in stellar shape. There were some wet spots but overall nothing major to complain about. They keep all four nines there in good shape.
The weather cooperated with no rain until I was already done. During the round it was in the mid 40’s with some sun and a light breeze. Perfect Fall golf weather. I had the place to myself and the guy in the pro shop said I could choose whatever combo I wanted. Ball striking was very good, with 11 fairways and 15 greens. I birdied 3 and 4 on Red and bogied 6 Red and 7 Black for an even par 72. Got to 70 rounds this year after only 55 last year. Hopefully I get in a couple more but the weather looks iffy.

When the temps get too high, too many people are out. Give me mid 40’s and dry. Just gotta layer up.

drizzle started just before sunrise, combined with a healthy breeze.

we started about 7:00.

birdied number one and powered my number two drive OB.

humility is everything.

rest of the round was pretty decent.

they didn't place tee markers so it was pick your spot and let 'er rip.

hope we get a couple more weeks out of the season.

Scramble at village green today. Lots of crazy teams out there. Thankfully we had a cart cover and heater. Didn't help our score, but helped us not freeze. One guy had a paint can tied to the front bar of the cart and had a charcoal for going😂  not sure how well it worked, but the campfire smell was nice.

Greens were really good. Rest of the course was wet, muddy and definitely in winter shape.

Winners were at 12 under. We were 4th at 6 under. Left a lot of shots out there. We were at 130 yards in all day and didn't take advantage in the least. 🤷

Lake Bluff has a scramble next Saturday. Mulling it over.

A bit different today than my last round on Monday, lol. Full winter gear on today. Even battled a few snow showers. I got out to Highland Woods this morning. Weather was a bit rough on the first couple of holes, but improved after #5.

Woods was in decent shape. It was actually drier than I thought it would be, as I was getting modest roll out in the fairways. Definitely was not a mud-fest, which was nice. Greens were in ok shape. The bunkers looked awful, but I wasn't in them today. All-in-all, a pretty typical November round. Walked Woods in under 2.5 after playing thru two groups. From #5 on, I saw more deer than golfers.

Played the Iron Man Open at Village Links on Sunday. Was absolutely f*cking freezing! Rookie mistake not having a cart cover and heater... will definitely be investing or borrowing for 2022. Still a great time, I believe the final count was 122 golfers (so 61 teams) which I'd say is a good turnout giving the conditions. We didn't play all that great.. starting off on 16 (1-6 scramble, 7-12 best ball, 13-18 alternate shot) did not help our cause... alternate shot ending up being our kryptonite.

Will definitely be doing it for years to come though!

Played Fox Bend for the first time this morning. Decent layout other than 9 and 12. Would like to come back in the Summer when there isn't any chance of mud balls.

while back I found a cart cover for a great price, thinking it would make extreme weather rounds more enjoyable.

so, we're still walking every round - weather be damned - while the cover is still new in box.

habits don't change......

You could show up at a scramble this weekend and sell it for a pretty penny 🤣

Yeah I walk 95% of the time but given the conditions and that it was a shotgun start, a cart was pretty much a necessity. I think a couple of teams started off walking then ended up grabbing a cart.

I think scrambles are the only time I actually do ride during the year. Makes life easier.

Heard from a good source (former employee) that Glen Eagles has been sold.

I know it's not the greatest but I enjoyed going out there and using it as a 36 hole practice range.

Gots to be one of the oldest in the south burbs.

That's a bummer. You had to figure it was coming eventually.

For whatever reason, it was THE outing course when I was a kid, for churches, schools, etc, every one was out there. I'll never forget the elephant buried under the one green by the road in, or finally being able to clear the lake on the hole you have to go across and over the water with my tee shot as a teenager.

If you referring to clearing the water with your driver on the 17th red course, you must have been in Bryson territory.

Ha, no sir. It was the other course, they had a par 4 or 5 I believe where you had to tee off on a bit of an angle over water. I think it was maybe a 200 yard carry, if that, but as a teenager it felt impossible. Playing it later years it was hardly an afterthought.
