+1 my preferred style as well.

Always working on using bounce and elevating wedge shots as needed, but first choice is putt or chip.

My goal is to break 80, worst case low 80s. Just can't take OBs or try many low percentage shots with high downside risk. I can see how folks could view a 64* as lower risk and I've gotten a kick out of playing those things. I've played East Lake and would use a more lofted wedge there (or similar courses).

My highest is a 60° but I used to carry a 62. It didn't make much of a difference so I ditched it. But I use my 60 for greenside chipping from fairway/fringe and rough if I have to get up over something. It's one of my most trusted clubs!

45/50/54/58. I like to hit full shots with my wedges and I never felt comfortable taking a full swing with a 60+

58* RTX 3 here. 85 yard 3/4 swings, high green side pitches, bunkers, flops, and low chips needing to check quick. I play open face shots to more degree more often than not with my 58* to the point where the finish has wore away and a small rust spot is developing on the heel of the sole.

I would ditch the 56 and 60 and go with a 58* that has a versatile grind like a Vokey M grind or Ping S or Eye2 grind.

Me as well, however I keep thinking I should get rid of the 50 and 54 and go 52. I find that one of those two wedges rarely gets used. It depends on the round but it's just weird how it works out. If I did it however I would probably run into the same situation at the other end of my bag if I added a hybrid or something.

I think one of the reasons 60's are difficult for many is the sole/grind/bounce. Many of the LW's over the years had very little bounce so you could really slide the club under the ball for flops, while the SW had a more forgiving sole. I don' t think a 60 should be too difficult for most if they have the right sole, however from my experience the 58* or 56 is the most consistent for me. I find the 60 a little hard to get to the hole on occasion.

Been back and forth between 58 and 60. More consistent with the 58, but have trouble opening it up sometimes. Probably more of a grind issue, but have trouble finding a heel relief low grind 58 that is still forgiving and not a chunk machine.

I have my i20 PW (46 deg I believe), 52 deg GW and a 56 deg SW. I used to carry a 60, but realized I could do anything with the 56 that I do with the 60, so I dropped it to open a spot on the top of my bag. For the last 10-12 years, I've had the PW from my set, at whatever loft it may be, then a 52 & 56. It just works for me.

My current setup only goes to 56* and I am pretty content with it. I've tried on several occasions to play a 60* without much success. I've even gone to 1 fwy, 1 hybrid to free up a spot for additional wedge but I'm not carrying it.

I’m comfortable taking full shots with all three, and half shots with the 56-60. Around the green almost exclusively 56 and from bunkers the 60. I just picked up a set of T100s which play slightly stronger than my existing J40s. I’ll likely move to a 50-55-60 setup help close a gap I’ve long had from PW to 52 without severely altering my existing yardages at 56-60.

PM19 58⁰ does everything I need, wouldn't go to a 60/64⁰

yes and no...single digit amateurs are completely different than a standard amateur (imo most "amateur" handicaps are 15 - 25). Im currently a 6.4 handicap and ive found a lot of success with a 58 and actually always struggled with a 60. Eventually it became mental pulling out a 60 knowing im gonna be too soft with it and come up way short on touch shots.

 

I think a 58 is the highest loft average amateurs should have and probably more see better success with only a 56. The vast majority of amateurs typically dont hit the ball far and need more distance. They would probably benefit from having more clubs at the top of the bag for distance on long par 3s and approach shots than 4 wedges.

 

of course everyone who golfs can't be lumped in the same category. There are low handicaps who barely drive it 230 and very high handicaps who drive it 290. But overall most average amateurs struggle to drive it 250 and typically need more distance clubs than wedges to finesse it around the green

3 Cap here , my current setup is 45*-51*-57*-63*

I like the versatility this gives me but prefer to use my 57* when possible but for short sided shots with no green I love the 63*

 

I think people just need to play around with there setup and not just pull LW from every where especially when you can use a bump and run 8 iron or something

58* here and I try to follow the Rule of 12 when around the green so find I'm not using it that much

54 and 58 . the 54 i use more than any other club i feel its my go to club anywhere inside of 75 yards. full shots, pitches. chips, also my bunker club. the 58 is solely left for the flop around the green and honestly i do more out just for the sake of hitting it than it actually calls for it. nothing feels/looks better than that nice greenside flop with no roll out just sticks

I also don't carry a fairway wood so the extra wedge is useful to me.

 

If I had to guess I would bet the SW is my least used out of the 4 but they all get a bit of usage. LW from inside 40-50 and for flop shots. GW for a majority of my chipping.

Juggle back and forth between 58 and 60. 58 can do most of what a 60 can do, but there are shots that I just can't hit with a 58. Perhaps I need a lower bounce 58.....?

Anything higher than 56 I feel I can’t control. 56 with varying degrees of opening face works for me
