Shorts on Tour

It's over 100 degree with extreme heat indexes where they are playing. The Euro tour said this is a one time only deal due to the heat. Thats pretty smart.

Not that I like to look a guys legs but every tour should let players wear shorts when temps exceed 95 degrees with heat indexes in the 100's.

I don’t know about that. Pretty sure I’ll have to age out before I agree that shorts don’t look odd. I’ve always known that a shirt tucked into shorts felt very odd when I wore it that way. Seeing it on TV confirms it. And I’m not 40 for a couple days yet.

Most athletes wear shorts and it hasn't converted us all yet lol, not that theres anything wrong with that

if my beloved longhorns can do 2-a-days on the surface of the sun in my hometown in full gear then so can golfers...

 

I’m old school but prefer pants on pros...

Ha! Exactly. Football guys are loaded with gear and a helmet on!

In most sports, you’re actually doing athletic moves constantly, pouring sweat, no matter how hot it is. And you practice all week doing this.

Golfers go around walking for a few hours and they need shorts?!

Cmon, you got like senior citizen tourists walking around seeing the sights in Rome for hours in 90 degree heat.

Come to think of it, I think they should take away golfers umbrellas when it rains, lol.

Where do you guys golf if you think shorts look weird? I've golfed all across North America and I'll bet 99% of the people (guys and gals) I've seen on the golf course on hot days are wearing shorts.

Do these people all look odd to you wearing shorts? Do you maybe think everyone else is wondering why that amateur golfer is wearing long pants in the middle of summer?

I can understand people's reluctance for a change at the professional level but I'm honestly surprised folks still think shorts are not normal in North America.

Maybe as bladehunter said I'm "aged out" cause I'm in my 60's … oh well  … I guess I'll wear shorts with my shirt tucked in. I'll be comfortable, in the majority, but perceived as weird by some on here.

No sir. Aged out is 6 feet under. You got a good 40 or more left. I just meant too say I’d have that opinion as long as I was breathing.

 

Its a personal preference thing. Sure. But to me shorts are ultra casual thing. Like flip flops. And on top of that it’s a kids thing. Juvenile.

 

Shorts have a place. Sure. Boat docks , fishing, doctors visits for the old “ turn and cough” , yardwork , swimming pools etc. but to me on a golf course it looks like a guy showing up to a funeral in a suit , tie and shorts. It’s half dressed. Maybe it’s just a difference in style altogether. I wear wingtips , or other leather shoes ( Ecco ) often. Can’t pair those with shorts. You’d have to swap to the modern “ yoga workout “ style to have the proper belt and shoes for shorts. Are you going to wear a gator belt with shorts ??? Seems like having air conditioning on a motorcycle.

Hey. For what it’s worth. I don’t really care what you do. Or anyone else. Meaning I don’t really think about other folks dress on the day to day time frame. Just giving my thoughts on the topic and what I think looks like a professional.

16 celsius is kind of the threshold between the both up here. But I admit it was kind of a nude shock seeing the guys from Mpumalanga. Having get somewhat used to it, It IS on the casual side. But one have to say that it depends on the guy. Wesserling and Ross Fisher... no.

I watched some of the Euro Tour last night and thought the players now looked like the guys I play golf with. I don't see the big deal. Yes, they don't look as dressed up, but again, no different than what I'm used to seeing on the course.

It's common sense. No one EVER wears pants for competition golf unless it is cold. The players look good and like any given Saturday at one of thousands of golf clubs across the Southern Hemisphere.

Should be allowed all the time.

Scientific fact that looking down at short pants cost you at least a shot a side in confidence..... studies have been done ( unofficially) on the same thing regarding ugly shoes and putting. You can’t putt with ugly shoes on. Try it one day. Real eye opener.
