Shorts wouldn't change my feelings about the Tour or how much I watch, but it might give the perception to some people that golf isn't as stuffy.

Look at the photo I posted above. You can go to any shopping mall and that's what the "athletes" sucking down Cinebons are wearing ; )

 

It's about looking like a **pro.

The photos of the Rory et al in shorts looks more like they're going to play golf, a sport.

And it depends on the sport whether or not you consider it a "uniform" - primarily a factor of whether or not it's a team or individual sport. E.g. tennis.

Frankly, guys in long pants and polos looks more like a tech company's sales department. Not pro athletes.

I think it's pretty simple, I'm fairly certain most PGAs around the globe strongly suggest that all it's members wear trousers when they play. It's basically how you tell Pros from Amateurs.

How many of these "best" college kids do you mean, lol? Is that why 60 or more go straight to the Tour every year? Of course they don't. Feel free to keep posting endlessly about nothing on shorts when you get back to Earth!

True, but they’ve had human trouser billboards on the PGA Tour for decades. I just figured they’d like a chance to show off their shorts, too. I mean, Joe Golfer is much more likely to buy the whole Tiger outfit when the scripting comes out, if it is a shorts set rather than pants.

Like someone above said, show me another game or sport where pros wear different clothing than the top amateurs. It doesn't happen.

Why is it OK for the LPGA to wear skirts,dresses or shorts but not the men?

I actually think LPGA should have the same dress standards as the men. Trousers, collars etc. What does it say about the game otherwise?

I think shorts should 100% be okay to wear on tour. As long as they are golf shorts/pants, who cares?

I watched the event on the first day & after about 1 minute I didn't really notice the shorts anymore, or care they were being worn. Golf is a game, not a religious experience. Those of you who think that the pro's should wear long pants are only concerned about what you want to see. The majority of players in South Africa wore shorts because THEY wanted to, didn't care about what others think. It's a GAME.

If shorts were approved for PGA Tour rounds, I wonder what percentage of guys would still wear pants? Half? Less?
