Here’s the thing I’ve been working on since Jan 1.  Just after a couple hours fan drying in the paint booth.  Just rolled it back into the prep room til Monday.

1968 Shelby GT350.   It’s a car with some odd history.  I have damage records from when  it was being moved from the AO smith plant where the Shelby conversions were done back to New Jersey …. This required the hood to be replaced.  When it was replaced the hood that they put on was one for a GT500 , so it has the fresh air duct work underneath.  Which is really hard to find .  Then it’s original owner raced  it in several race classes ( road courses ) in basically same as a 65 R model trim.  Then it was put aWay until 2005 ish when it was found and bought to be saved.  Low mile car. But abused , and rust throughout. Then it Sat a long time in the corner , until it finally got a turn.

originally did not have stripes ( a lot of  Shelby’s after 67 didn’t , most had them added later ) has black deluxe interior , 4 speed , 389 trac lok 9 inch rear , and has a rare set of magnesium Shelby wheels.    When we got it it had 4 wheel disc brakes , although front discs were factory with drums in rear.  It has all original fiberglass parts ( hood, nose , deck lid , side scoops etc. ) which is also hard to find these days for a non pampered Shelby.

anyway. I can ramble on and on.  Here it is. Parts will start going on it next week. Hope to hear it come to life before summer gets here.

Mecum Indianapolis just sold a restored red 66 Shelby GT350, with the white rally stripes, for $220,000.00.  It has the original 289 engine that came in the car, rebuilt of course.

Plaything or DD?

For DD, I'd do the Jag over the other 2. Don't have to worry about curbs/berms getting into/out of parking lots and driveways. Vette 2nd. TT? Never.  TT is toooo nose heavy and is an understeer machine in the turns.

Plaything? Track? Vette hands down.

Same!  It’s not a waste - it makes going anywhere a lot more fun. No shame in the sports car game!

I’ve more-less always DD’ed sports cars/sporty cars.  When my daughter came along about 10 years ago I went from the m3 to the v10 m5 for about 5 years - no SUV for me (and I miss the m5 - was a great car)😎.

I started this thread a while ago and have since started DD’ing a V10 R8 w/VF tune, exhaust and coil overs - I love it.  And currently waiting for a replacement windshield due to a massive crack - full DD status.   My wife has the family SUV so it’s usually just me and my golf clubs as the passenger driving around.  😂

I thought about putting a box on it… 🙊

I love seeing all the cool rides y’all are rockin!

Maybe this one for her?

Well.  Slower than I wanted.  It’s got a fully detailed and correct suspension and brake setup front and rear.  Including the rear axle housing and gear set detailed out.  Wiring harness about 80 % in , and carpet laid out in the floor.  Seat upholstery is on another 4 week back order , and engine is lingering at the machine shop.    It’ll all fall in my lap at the same time I’m sure.

Biggest reason for being slow is that customer projects picked up about the time I painted the Shelby.  One of which is a 30k mile 63 impala SS convertible.  327 4 speed and factory A/c and power windows.  Extremely clean body as far as rust.  It’s a preserve and repaint original.  And it’s huge compared to my normal mustang stuff.  On top of that is a 2nd day production mustang convertible that I did 10 years ago.  It was recently in a garage fire.  And saved burnt the top and interior.  And top half of body as far as a paint. But it still runs and drives. Lol. I’m charged with returning it to new.  This car still has a generator instead of alternator.  And has so many odd pre production ( being made before normal fast production began in middle 65) parts on it that I’m glad I did it once already. I remember most of it.  Which makes it easier.

So in short.  The summer got busy.  Finally after 2 years of crap jobs and flipping cars etc.     I’ll post some more Shelby pics if you what when I get the gas tank in and the wiring / dash finished.

Seems the sure way to get busy is to try and do something you enjoy for yourself. Thanks for the update. I miss doing this kind of work with classic cars. Are you going all stock with the engine?

Perfectly said.  Eveytime in my life I’ve pulled in a project of my own. My phone immediately rings. 😂.    Yep. The engine will be stock parts but breathed on.  It’s a gt350. So a j code 302 is stock.  It will use the stock heads and block , with a modern roller cam setup that’s not only more durable than a flat tappet cam with todays oil , but will be more aggressive.   On the crank and rod combo it’s a scat forged crank and rod combo. that makes it a 331 cubic inch “ stroker “.  So it’s a little bit breathed on.   But it’s not a rowdy monster or anything. Have the factory Shelby aluminum intake manifold and a period Holley carb to go on it.   It’s a 4 speed originally, and originally had a 3.89 track lock 9 inch rear axle. So no need to mess with any of that.  Pretty much perfect combo.

It will be a great build. I like the fact that the changes will not be visible, but make it a bit more "spirited".

Seems like you've mentioned you're in upstate South Carolina. We drove down fron Beech Mountain to Strawberry Hill in Chesnee for peaches, then over to Landrum for lunch at The Hare & Hound. If your shop isn't air conditioned I wouldn't last an hour under a hood. 94* everywhere we got out today. 69* when we got back on the mountain. Peaches better be really good.

Yep.  You were 15 minutes from me when you were at the hare and the hound  Our farm is in Gramling.  Just down 176 from Landrum.

wow. 69 would  feel like long sleeve weather.  Yep. The shop definitely isn’t air conditioned. It’s very hard to do at least on the dusty side because of just how nasty the work is. I’ve threatened to put in mini spilt units on the clean side for years.  But it never seems to happen.  For about 9 weeks of the year it regularly shows 90 plus inside on the thermometer that’s on the body work bay wall.

i just take it in 2/3 hour sections , walking back and going inside the main house to cool off a couple times a day. Some days I last longer than others. Drink loads of water , etc.

When our courses close in the Fall we play golf all around you. Woodfin Ridge, Village Greens, Links O'Tryon, Cherokee Valley.

You're a better man than me if you can work in that heat. It's the reason we moved here 22 years ago.

We took our E63s to Virginia International Raceway Saturday for a Mercedes Benz and Porsche event.  By the time we got our turn on the track it was 95*. The only upside to that is the track was scorching and the traction was really good. Probably lost about 2000 miles of rubber in the six laps we took.

I'll wait with interest to see how your project comes along.

Anybody have any experience with the Jaguar F-Type. Thinking of getting one.

I know about Jag's previous(?) reputation of making completely UNreliable cars, especially electrical issues, but I figure if Audi could manage to stop their cars from rusting whenever the humidity was over 50%, almost anything's possible.

I run marketing for a high end automotive group With locations on both coasts. It’s made me both more of and less of an enthusiast, I think lol. But I will say, getting to work with the things I have over the last 6.5 years has been very special and unique. Here’s some of the behind the lens stuff I captured that we use/used for different promotional materials and/or social media.
