What do you like on your pizza?

For me it’s mozzarella , sub dried tomatoes and beef. And our local joint is a brick oven with a Soft pretzel crust. It’s like a slice with a built in breadstick. Now. Before someone cries fowl on the crust. My absolute favorite was a real new yours style place that sadly isn’t there anymore. A retired New Yorker who was Italian born ran a place named Cosenzas. He was a really blunt and borderline mean old man. Lol. But. The slices he made were pure heaven. My favorite then for lunch was a a simple pepperoni and green olives. Man. What I’d pay for that slice tonight.

Yeah, I'll have to make a couple pies again, maybe this weekend. We have a vegan lady friend who comes over for it. She looks like Bo Derek and is sweet as can be. So...I make one with vegan cheese. For the fam I'll make mozzarella, red sauce, sausage, pepperoni. I'll make a little one for me with black olives and anchovies under some gouda. Oh yeah...

I've gotten pretty good with calzones too. Not diet food...

Topping wise this is something a few of experimented with for quite a while. It took some time, but it's held on long after me, if that validates our results?

So, for about 6 years I worked at this dive bar. After 2 years I got a different full time job but stayed on working Friday nights. Friday nights have Karaoke and all the regulars stay past HH and until close and the place gets pretty packed and we all have a lot of fun. The closing crew was three guys. Myself, Chris and Derek. Every Friday we'd order a pizza and try different toppings until we nailed it down. After about a year we all agreed on one particular style. This went on for a while, then Derek moved away and Erin took over. She tried to change it, we shot her down, and later she agreed we were right. The last year or so I was there Erin had left and Rob took over and Chris was splitting his time at another bar and not working every Friday, switching with Mena. We still stuck to the original. Finally I got promoted and Chris got promoted at his other job and we both had our going away parties the same night, pizza included.

About 6 months later I stopped in and Rob and Mena were both gone and I didn't know any of the bartenders. They people working were splitting a pizza. Still the same set up. I was so proud.

Medium dough, stretched to a large (true thin crust), Olive oil on the crust, light cheese, Green peppers and pepperoni. - The true pizza!

I grew up in Illinois so these were my fix. When I move to Nashville in my late 20's Pizza Hut was making the top 5 in "best of Nashville" polls... Ugh. Things have improved, but Pizza here is either chain or super fancy - ie Importing your super expensive brick oven from Naples and trying to hang your hat on the original thin sauce. Some in between like Two Boots Pizza, but they add a ton of spice/herbs. Pizza Perfect is ok, but misses on a few wants. Five Points Pizza may be the best right now, but even they are having quality inconsistencies. I swear, the biggest past time for Nashvillian's is eating out and flooding every new eatery, which has exploded in recent years.

Well, there are about 6 pizza parlors within a mile of my place.

 

3 of them don’t quite cut it for me. 1 is very good and 2 are passable. The good one just closed for the time being. This one passable on, it’s ok but their sauce is a bit too sweet.

 

But, fortunately, La villa is still open, It’s a bit of a walk but easy delivery.

 

They make a nice pie

I'll try whatever's around, but if I'm ordering for myself, it'll be sliced ham (not diced), cheese and pineapple. Some call that a "Hawaiian" pizza.

You just reminded me, I had a friend whose dad was from Argentina and he used to drive like 30 miles to this place and get Argentinian pizza. It was thick like a Sicilian pie but it had sliced ham covering it and green olives. It totally kicked @ss!

We used to live in Waukegan Illinois, and on occasion go down to Chicago for a game or something. The best pizza I've ever had was at Giordano's. If you're ever in Chicago . . .

Thin crust with onion and either pepperoni, sausage or both and extra mozzarella. Minced garlic if I feel like having vampire killing breath. Since moving to New Mexico I have learned I like pepperoni and Hatch green chile. I lived in Germany for three years and I discovered corn was a topping on pizza. Did not understand that one.

I LOVE pizza however, as I've got older cheese has started disagreeing with me more and more. Some places do a vegan cheese which isn't actually that bad. Places that don't though, I order the base without cheese & tomato sauce, both replaced only by BBQ sauce with normal toppings of chicken, mushrooms & sweetcorn.

 

I know it seems pretty outrageous to have neither cheese or tomato but I just find the tomato base by itself too sharp without cheese.
