Over/Under: PXG will still be in business in 5 years?

No one said a word about Ping being for everyone. But the sales and performance of Ping speaks for itself. Are you sure the Pings aren't outside of the top 20 OEM's ? This is gonna turn into a Paddy thread so I'll bow out. BTW, I like PXG stuff. As a veteran I could get them at a fair price. PXG will survive as long as Bob wants it to.

Titleist TSR 2  9°

Taylormade V-Steel 3 wood

Ping G430 19°,23.5,28.5 Hybrids

PXG Gen 6 XP's 7-SW

Ping Redwood Anser

If you go to Ping.com and click the Pro's tab you will see that the majority of the players are using cast irons (iblades, i-series.) Another thing, if Ping is so bad then how come Parsons lured away Ping engineers to design clubs for PXG? Anyone want to guess why PXG irons have high bounce (just like Ping) and the drivers have a rear and low CG (just like Ping?) This is no coincidence.

Personally I like PXG clubs but the price puts me off other than maybe the 0211. If the Gen 3 version sold for the same price they would have my attention. I'm not fooled into thinking they are superior though. There is no such thing as superior in the club world. Slightly better in some ways and slightly worse in others is the reality. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't know equipment.

Ping G400 Max driver w/Aldila Rogue 125 Silver
Ping G425 5 wood & hybrid

Ping Glide wedges w/Recoil 110
Ping Redwood Anser - the "real deal!"

prior to the gen2 driver release they had got to the point they made back all the money it cost to start up the brand. As a result he lowered the price of the gen2 driver to $575 down from $800 and $25 over most other brands releases last year.

as for the irons and wedges they have a lot of money invested that goes into the moods that make them and is why they are still expensive and plus there’s probably a need to offset the discount given to first responders, activity duty and vets for the heroes program

The PXG 0211 are on the site now for 125 USD per head. Is that correct? 1320 CAD for a set of 8?

I didn't realize they had such an affordable set. That is the same price i paid for my G410s

Is that accurate? I kinda want to try them now LOL

IDK but the 0211 are their most aesthetically pleasing iron to date IMO. Good looking club.

$1000 USD for 8 irons. $25 USD if you want the upgraded shafts. They come with Elevates or MMTs stock and there are a ton of upgrade options. If you go to a fitter, there are about 30-40 options of shafts for $25 USD upgrade fee. You should bring your G410s to a TXG master fitter and compare, just to see the process, there is no obligation, at least there wasn't for me and the fitter spent 3 hours with me.

I'm not convinced the tour players are playing the offerings you can buy at the big box stores. I'm spoken to a few people that have worked in tour trucks for Taylor Made and this is not the case. They have tour spec heads that are made totally different for the pros; I'm sure PING does the same thing.

Ping produces some really nice stuff, their Drivers and Fairway woods are top class and I like their hybrids too. Nothing wrong with their putters although I think they are behind Odyssey Stroke Lab. They Glide wedges are legit. For me, their irons were always behind the Japanese forged irons like Miura and now they are way behind PXG.

The two guys that left Ping 6 years ago for PXG are top notch designers and also had an unlimited budget with no time constraints, that's a big deal for a designer and they proved it worked, in my opinion at least.

I was in the same camp that discounted PXG and their clubs, until a fitter made me try them a few month ago. I had no intention of ever spending that type of money on clubs but they proved out to be a lot better. I was actually blown away by the feel and still am. I have never had a ball feel so amazing off an iron shot.

Other than Gen3 and the milled iron/wedges, their stuff isn't really over-priced relative. Their Drivers are in the Ping/Callaway/Taylor price range, as are their fairways and hybrids, maybe slightly more but not much when you consider all the shaft options included and the fact that a master fitting is included. Sugar Daddy wedges are really expensive and outside of what I can spend on a wedge. I haven't tested PXG putters so I can't comment on that, Odyssey putters work really well for me. I know a lot of guys are using their Gen2 putters now and loving them, maybe one day I will explore their putter fitting.

I think you will see PXG products become more competitive in price as their scale grows. Look at the 0211s now, you can get a seven piece iron set for $875 which is in the price-range of Callaway and Taylor, but they have a lot better tech inside.

See, but said troll will point out the fact fact that since my bag is all pxg I cannot point that out because of “pxg bias”, all the while never acknowledging the fact that my setup was bought for way less than what the highest end Titleist or Taylormade irons can be bought. Plus the fact that they perform just as well as or in my case better than other brands taking all factors into account.

I have only converted to PXG irons. I've gone for many brand agnostic fitting and the other PXG clubs weren't the best performing for me, but the irons, to quote Pat P (OH MY). Nothing else compared to PXG in that category. Gonna be tough to beat my EpicF Driver and 5W though, those are lethal weapons. My wedges are CBX2 across the board, best wedges I've ever played in my life.

It doesnt work like that without collusion. There is enough margin for an OEM to undercut all of those prices and still be very profitable. So someone would do that if every OEM adopted that model.

And if we didn't buy products from that OEM, than it's our own fault.

FWIW everything in my bag, I paid less than the numbers you suggest in Canadian dollars and bought everything new

I’m a PXG guy but I’m very interested to see how they do in a downturn. The big OEM’s with public reporting or activist PE’s will snap the rubber band on pricing to drive sales or keep the lights on when things get tough. PXG is a luxury item and when discretionary spending gets tight luxury items historically suffer.

Agreed. First responder, service member purchases could tail off, but the higher end of the high end just keeps on keeping on.

Folks buying matching sets for their winter home and summer home are still going to have a few thousand lying around for a set. Yes yes maybe that is the nth % of their customer base, but they will still be there. Would think as a % of customer base, the 'regular' OEMs would see a larger number reducing their discretionary funds for hobbies like golf.
