I'll reiterate, this was not ignorance/stupidity. It was done on purpose and non-transparently. If you understand what was done, then it's clear it was a planned action. The ignorance/stupidity would have to have been combined with knowledge to arrive at these sets, either that or a remarkably rare coincidence.

While I feel Dallas Golf has made it right with me, let's not make excuses for them. This was done on purpose and they hoped or assumed that nobody would notice. When I initially questioned them about the shafts, they didn't want to see proof, they immediately jumped to partial refund. They knew.

This was definitely systemic and on purpose. Disappointing that true temper doesn’t care and still called them outstanding. It’s in fact hurting them if their shafts don’t perform. Also weird that Dallas golf bought a ton of 6 iron shafts. Probably cheap/and or didn’t know better purchaser thinking easier to manage inventory. Idiotic and not a way to run businEss.

They’re probably aware of this thread too. And I doubt they’ll own up to this and post. They’ll just auto-refund those that complain a small amount to sweep it under the table.

I'm fairly certain they are aware. When I talked to the True Temper rep, he said he was going to contact them. He knew exactly who we were talking about. Still, his response seemed like, "Eh, oh well. They're a good company."

As another poster said - think how many people are playing sets like this, that can't get a handle on their swing, game, etc...

I’ve purchased quite a few clubs from Dallas Golf over the past couple of years since they have new Nike components (club heads and in some cases grips) and I am a big fan of Nike clubs. I understand that they assemble the clubs using Nike club heads plus their own assortment of shafts and grips, but the cost was typically low enough to make the clubs attractive to purchase. Plus I assumed that they were at least using appropriate shafts for a specific club since one of their reps explained the building process to me following my first purchase from them. This thread is causing some concern and raising some questions.

 

Is there any way to tell what actual shaft is used for the clubs other than by removing the grip and checking the etched codes on the butt end? (Do all metal shafts typically have these etchings?) Almost every metal-shafted club I have purchased from them came without any visible labeling so there is no sticker to provide any information. 

 

At one point I bought a half set of Covert 2.0 irons (8, 9, PW, & AW). No visible shaft labeling. If I lay them down and line them up in order, the first step on the shaft up from the hosel follows a consistent pattern. That is, the difference in the position of the first step up from the hosel between the AW and the PW looks identical to the difference in the position of the first step between the PW and the 9i as well as between the 9i and the 8i. So, at least there is symmetry there. Is that a significant indicator of anything?

 

For those of you that are finding mismatched shafts in the irons you have purchased from them, have these been recent purchases or were some of these clubs purchased quite a while ago? Does the current issue seem to be a recent phenomenon or do you suspect this has been going on for an extended period of time?

 

I’m not a shaft expert and I don’t have experience building clubs. As such, I’m not nearly as knowledgeable as many of the posters on GolfWRX. Therefore, I’m interested in the input of others on any of the above. 

 

Again, I get that I wasn’t purchasing clubs assembled under the Nike umbrella. I was purchasing Nike club heads paired with shafts that I was told (by Dallas Golf) were similar in specs to the shafts that came in the those specific clubs when they were built by Nike.  I had to take on faith what the shafts actually were since they were almost always without any visible labeling. Is removing the grips so as to check the etched codes the only way to really know what I have? Thanks again for any input.

I'd bet a lot that you have a hack build job if it they're nikes from dallas golf.

Is there any silk screen printing on the shafts (like "Dynamic Gold" for example)? Post a pic of an iron with a ruler showing the measurements of the step pattern.

Obviously, if you're pulling the grips anyways there's no harm in checking. But, this thread is specifically about Dallas Golf buying component heads from Nike and marrying them to 6 iron shafts, regardless of what the actual head being built is. This is not a Nike problem, it is a Dallas Golf problem.
