This is the most bizarre thing I've come across - re: S300 AMT codes Dallas Golf

Hack Daddy

Recommended Posts

Anyway for me to check my VR Pro blades w/ AMT S300 shafts without taking off the grips? I ordered a set back in January from Dallas, I did have them regripped by my club. Didn't think to have them check the shafts since Dallas Golf had always been reputable. I haven't really hit them since I bought them, still sitting in a box. Hmm.

You'd have to take at least one grip off, to be sure. You can try measuring tip to first step, but I think that would be too ambiguous without knowing the hosel bore depth.

I got the same exact set as you. A few posters in here have gotten Nike clubs with the same issue (alone with others). I think its safe to assume you can sacrifice one grip for piece of mind. If, in fact, you did get shafted... request a refund for the market value of the shafts and go from there.

Sorry to hear. It's like we all dated the same girl that ended up playing us all.

Unbelievable. I will never buy from Dallas Golf again even if mine turnout to be correct. That is shady AF. Shame on them, they should have just sold the heads.

They're taper tip you can just compare all the clubs to each other. As a first pass should be 1/2" increments between each club from top of hosel to first step. If some have the same distance, then that would be the first sign that some weird stepping going on.

That's what tipped me off on the 5i I bought. Same shaft and flex as my 6i, and same distance to 1st step on both clubs. Thus, 5i has to be a hard stepped 6i shaft. (6i is known to be legit and standard install, it's from my set of VRs acquired new from pro shop while set was still current)

With AMT S300, 6 iron shaft, Tip to 1st Step should measure 9.5 inches.

Grab your 3, 4, and 5 iron and see approximately how far it is from tip to 1st step. From my experience with their 3 and 4 irons, they all had 6 iron shaft on them. (I bought 3 single irons. All Nike with AMT S300 on them.)

That's what I did before removing the grip to be 100% sure as well.

I measured and they are all over the place. There are only a couple iron with 1/2" difference to 1st step. Some are 1/4" and less, 6 and 5 are the same. I'm going to have to pull these grips I just paid $11 per installed. Good job Dallas Golf.

Get all the butt codes and how they correspond. Then contact Dallas Golf and tell them you want a refund for the market price of a real set of S300 AMT's and also the price of the grips you bought and had installed.

Now, my only saving grace was that I used AmEx, and I could have gotten the entire amount disputed and refunded if they didn't meet me in the middle. Did you use any protection buying service, ie. AmEx, PayPal, etc.? You get 180 days of paypal protection, if so.

Either way, if you did use a credit or debit card, I would get the dispute rolling immediately.

I pulled the shafts the moment I got them. So I couldn't tell you.

Although I'm sure a 6i shaft in a 3i head would be the easiest stinger to hit out of the entire bag, lol.

Probably had an excess of 6i shafts. Maybe for demo irons or something. My 5i from there has a 6i shaft, luckily works/feels fine but it's just 1 hard step and I fit between R and S flex.

This all sounds like they are trying to pull fast ones OR they have a very inexperienced builder who doesn't know better. When I first started building I would put whatever length shaft matched my finished playing length in that club. Nobody had told me any differently. Like I knew to butt trim to length but only did like 1/2" to 1" over length from that, so most of my builds were likely hard stepped once or twice without realizing it. I got told properly about a couple of years in. Luckily I wasn't doing too many customer reshafts at that time and was more of just a fill-in builder at the store when we were swamped or had to cover a vacation. And if I did, most of it was parallel tip which was easier to work with because I followed the trimming guidelines for all the broken RAC OS with the TTLite.

Dallas Golf has great deals, but I've learned to ask questions on their "new" clubs. Part of their business is selling discontinued/old stock. I believe some of those clubs are acquired as components. They then reshaft themselves.

A few years ago, they had a set of new Nike irons I wanted. But the shafts were not stock, and based on my research, never made in .355. I inquired and they confirmed they had reamed the heads to .370.

They've always have responded quickly to my inquires and I don't question their integrity since I've purchased from them several times. Just wish they would put that kind of info in their listings...

After this how can you not question their integrity? Just because they come clean when questioned doesn't mean they have integrity. Integrity would be listing the exact build transparently from the beginning.

You shouldn't have to ask if the clubs are shafted correctly. I can understand a hole in the wall golf shop, not a large retailer like Dallas Golf. Lesson learned I guess.

Yep. In no way am I defending Dallas Golf but they told me years ago this is what they do. I remember when the Nike VR Pro Hybrid was discontinued and they started selling them new. The problem was the ferrules looked off in the pictures (I had few) and when I asked them they admitted that these are built by them as they just got the heads from Nike. I thought it was common knowledge but they should advertise it.

So me personally I just assume if I buy from them I'm buying for the head only. Like I just bought a new Nike VR Pro hybrid for $25. It has an NVS shaft in it but I have no need for it.

It blows my mind they’d bore out a hosel and not disclose it. I guess the shaft doesn’t surprise me as much, maybe because I don’t buy many iron sets expecting to keep the shafts. But the hosel reaming thing, wtf? I’d be livid if I bought a set for the heads alone and they were reamed out.

Had a similar situation with Dallas Golf a few years back when they were liquidating their Nike stock. Picked up a “new” Nike method long neck putter supposed to come with the authentic Nike grip and 35”. When it showed up it clearly had some issues. It was only 34 inches and had some generic black grip. After emailing back and forth with Dallas Golf they sent me something like a 15% refund and keep the putter or return for a full refund. Although irritating, at least they seem to make things right if they screw up. Seems to be a common issue with the component builds they seem to do in house.
