The tournament has some great commits. Rory, DJ, Koepka, Justin Thomas, Rahm, and Speith. 155 commits with one spot held open just in case Tiger commits. Should be interesting to watch them play Harbour Town with Bermuda grass and no grandstands.

Would love to see Tiger play Harbour Town. Seems like a course that should fit his game really well.

The course was regrassed a couple years ago, and has been closed for some time now, so it should be in perfect condition. They normally don't let the rough grow to any length, so scores could be low unless it is windy.

I almost think Harbor Town would be the perfect course for Tiger to return. The weather is guaranteed to be warm, the course favors precision over power and is close enough that he could get there in his jet in an hour or less.

I live near the course. It was so pure for the April date. When they canceled and rescheduled, they got the rye grass out so the bermuda could take over. It's been sitting empty since mid March and it looks like a green bermuda grass rug. Greens look as smooth as a pool table. I'm lucky to be playing it the Tuesday after the tournament.

 

Rumors are Tiger would stay on his yacht and helicopter in. Only problem, not many places to land a helicopter in Sea Pines.

Is Tiger's yacht too big for the harbor there? Seems like they'd let him dock right behind the lighthouse and he could take a cart to the clubhouse.

 

NM. Answered my own question. It's not big in comparison to an air craft carrier.

One of my playing partners in the Pro-Am is Joe Rice. He parks his yacht at the entrance of the harbor and it's a tight fit. His yacht is 130 ft. Tiger's is 155ft, so maybe it would fit?

One of the nice things of this compressed schedule is some of these venues that don't always get a lot of names are going to get them this year. Tiger possibly coming to Hilton is a perfect example. Can't wait.

I also have a habit of still calling this tournament the MCI Classic or the Davis Love III Invitational because he won it so much.

Definitely seems like Hilton Head would be a good fit for TW. The length of the place would seem to take the driver out of the hand and that is a massive plus for him. Then when you add in the small greens and his iron play. Surely it is a win win and if can turn that into number 83, well that would be just swell.

small sidetrack - Same in US as in my home country, that these kind of stories about business mixed with pleasure is getting sparse? Companies do not do that much any longer? I left University as the Berlin wall came down, and my first 10 years uptil Y2K saw some nice activities sponsored by the companies I worked for. Even some corporate golfing. But nowadays I do not see much of this and do not hear much about it.

I think Harbor Town is tighter, and has more twists and turns than Colonial. It will be interesting to see if Bryson will be able to pound his driver down there.

Singh is in from his lifetime PGA Tour exemption. Langer is in as a past champion. Field was expanded this year by 20+ players.

I never bought into the "Harbor Towne is perfect fit for Tiger's game." I don't think it is. There is speculation (an article or two) that stated he doesn't do well at Riviera due to it only having 3 par fives and one of those relatively short. The articles contended that Tiger needs those longish par fives to separate himself from the field by virtue of his (historically) good long iron play.

While Harbor Town is a course that puts a premium on accuracy over distance, IMO, it does not present many opportunities for Tiger to use the long iron accuracy to separate from the pack. I'd also argue that the distance aspect of his game is largely nullified by the fact that there are so many longer than he is now. His strength used to be that he could afford to hit a 2i stinger off the tee and not give up much distance over guys hitting driver, but do so with more accuracy.

 

That being said, I wish he would play just because I would like to see his game on that course to see whether my thoughts bear out.
