What handicap range would you put the jpx 921 forged irons in?

They are forgiving irons, I am really enjoying mine. You can't really handicap range clubs. I'm currently off 16 but that is down to my lack of driving prowess. When I hit a fairway off the tee I am invariably on the green in two, but if I miss 12 out of 14 fairways and am hacking out the trees or rough I am not hitting greens.

If you can hit somewhere near the centre of the club face with an iron try them. In fact go and try them against other irons and just buy what feels best to you.

Callaway Mavrik 9*, Kuro Kage Black 60gr Stiff..
Callaway Rogue 3 wood.
Titleist U510 3 iron.
Mizuno JPX 921 Forged 5 - PW.
Vokey SM7, 50F, 54S, 58D.
Scotty Cameron Futura X5.

Has anyone bent the tours a degree or two stronger? In order to get closer distances with what I used to game (900 HM's), I'm thinking of going two degrees stronger. I'm a picker, so the lowering of bounce doesn't bother me but I am slightly worried about the offset. I also tend to hit the ball high, so a decrease in loft will also be beneficial for my trajectory. My fitter really thinks I would benefit from the two degree decrease in loft but I'm worried about messing up the clubs.

I’m a high handicapper but have been playing Bridgestone j40 cbs for close to two seasons now with decent success. I have a hard time breaking 100 after playing for about 4 years but my main misses come from topping the ball or super thinning it which I don’t think any club can fix.

I’m currently between forged and mmc with forged seeming like the smart choice and mmc being sexy but irrational option. Somebody help me make a choice.

If you're barely breaking 100 the choice is easy. Cleveland Launcher HB Turbos. You have to try to not hit them straight.

Well gentlemen I can give a much more accurate review now. JPX 921 Tour is that club. I can't say enough good things about it. From Gap wedge to 4 iron I don't have a single complaint. I've played 2 full 18's. I went 46-38=84, 39-42=82. First 9 was a bit brutal as I figured things out again. I can't find a single bad thing to say as I sit here and thing of the down sides. The feel, the weight, the sound. I'm trying to find words to describe how happy I am with them but there are no words that can justify it for me. If you have any questions please ask. I feel like a kid again.

I had Ping ISI K black dot irons from 1996. The technology upgrade in the last 25 years im sure had something to do with it as well.

I’m late to the party but I just place a order for the 921 forged 4-p with modus 120x HS. I actually ordered mine with 1 deg strong of SEL lofts. I’m most likely going to get them all bent to true SEL lofts but mizuno won’t go more than 2 deg. Plus I want 4 deg gapping on my irons. I’m really hoping that to is helps with bounce as I’ve had problems with Mizuno digging on me in the past. Has anyone else gone this way with the forged?

Played my 3rd round with 921 JPX Hot Metal Pros and absolutely giddy over them.  Every round just seems to result in better and better performance.

HMP's are the real deal and just deliver on the goods so much better than my Apex 21's did.

I'm with you there my man. I bought mine stock off the rack and was a little worried before I hit my first shot. Covid restrictions didn't allow for any fitting - didn't matter. Played one round so far and a handful of range sessions. Loving everything about them! I also have a set of 919 Forged and these feel better to me.

What I don't get is that these are not forged, and yet, they feel better than my Apex 21's which have a forged face.  I've compared these to the Apex 21's and Titleist T300's and these have the best feel of the bunch.  I'm sort of kicking myself, because I actually bought these quite a few months ago and never gave them any game time... just hit them indoors in my small hitting bay.  They didn't impress me indoors, but when I started playing them, I just couldn't get over how they performed.

I was having trouble pushing a number of shots to the left (I'm right handed) and I think it was because the Apex 21's and T300's seem to be draw biased.  All 3 sets are custom configured with the same shafts and grips and lie angles.  The 921's just don't seem to have that draw bias built in and I'm not hitting them exactly where I'm aiming.

I'm also finding them to be slightly longer than the Apex 21's and about the same distance as the T300's.  I think I'm getting slightly higher club head speed with the 921's but not exactly sure why.  Also really like the ball flight.

I hit a 7 iron yesterday from about 140 and was shocked to see it hold the green.  Brought a smile to my face.

Of the 921 series I think the HMP are the clear winners in the players distance model. Bought the forged but I didn’t think it was anything special and wished I went with the tours/HMP combo.

Titleist Tsi2 - 15*

Callaway Apex 20*

Hi yes, I bent mine two degrees strong I also don’t take much of a divot. I did initially notice the offset, but the trajectory is gold, little less spin and 3-5 yrds longer. Couldn’t be happier, despite the offset which just comes down to pride anyways but you’re the only one looking at them anyways. You can always bend them back if you hate it.

What’s the current realistic lead time on orders?  I’m going from pre-release PXG Gen3 T’s to JPX921 Forged ordered in June.  I’m in no hurry, just curious what build times have been running.  Moving to more forgiveness w/o a thick top line.  4-P, Nippon Modus 120-X soft stepped +1” 2* up.

GAMER SETUP:

As someone who just received their 921 tours last week and was quoted 5-6 weeks, unfortunately it was 8 weeks

Thanks for the feedback.  I'm excited to receive the new irons, but will be okay if they take longer than projected.

Have you had a chance to game them?

After a 9 month hiatus away from golf (travelling and work and such) I'm getting back into it ahead of the new season.

Spent a bit of time chatting to the pro at my club and was able to pick the 921HM Pros with Project X LZ 6.0 (smoked finish) and a few T20 wedges for an absolute bargain.

How did everyone find these over the long term? I had an older iteration of these before I took a break and have heard good things about them.

Got my 921 forged in with a 3 week wait. I've played a couple rounds with them, and they are a solid club longer than my mp60s, as they should be given the lofts. Very happy with the ball flight, and the gap wedge is a perfect ~100 yard club, where before I didn't like taking a full swing with my 56.

I'm very happy with the looks, and I have no regrets. Great feel, longer, and I can't tell any difference in flight or spin, which is a good thing. I'm sure they're a bit more forgiving but that's hard to quantify just in a couple rounds.

The 5 iron is much easier to hit than my old 4 iron, which has already made a difference on my par 3s.

Wondering how you like the t20 and jpx hmp pairing.  I’ve got hmp with steel fibers to PW,  I’m prob gonna grab the gap too.  But contemplating Cleveland or t22 from Mizuno.

Before my hiatus I had the 919HMPs and T20 wedges and it was fine, only difference now is the shafts are stiff LZ. I found the gap wedge in the set suffered from the same issue that the original hot metal iteration in that the distance was not reliable in it. Think there was chat on here about it... sometimes you could hit your number with it and sometimes it would be miles short without any explanation. The T20 gap wedge just made sense for me and numbers wise it fits. Looks wise it's very good too. Let me know what you decide!

Leaning towards blade style 48-54-58 gap set up.  Might just go T22 as likely easier to find than t20.  No rush for me as 20* and snow right now.
