KHT Autoflex shaft

Just took the plunge! 505x with a G425 head at C9. Can't wait to try it out. Tried the regular 505 and it was just way too whippy for me. I load the shaft aggressively (think a much slower swinging Sergio), and the softer shaft was just not for me. Looking forward to putting this in play at the member-member this weekend at my club. I'm still not well and will be swinging at 90ish mph, so we'll see where I'm hitting the ball versus where I have been the last two months, injured.

What length are you playing it at? C9 is pretty light given the G425 head is so heavy. What is your head weight? How much weight did you remove?

A buddy put it together. It's at 45.5 inches. This is my first go, so we'll see how it works. I have a bunch of additional weights I can mess with also. I usually prefer D2 or D3 in my drivers.

Obee - First and foremost, happy to hear that you are discussing an upcoming member-member.....glad to hear that you are able to play!

This is really the first I've heard of the Autoflex shaft. Sounded interesting, videos, including the beginning of the TXG series. I'll be interested to see if you feel that the 10.5* head launches the ball too high with this shaft.

I have mine waiting in a box when I get home tonight (505x).

Going to plug it i to my sim2 tomorrow. Already have a lighter headweight ready.

Will post feedback and gcquad data.

Current shaft in the sim2 is a ventus black 6x at 44.5.  Going 46 in the AF.

@sammyk3333 I did the same (replaced 16g with 8g) and it came in light.  I put a strip of lead tape on the back to get it weighted up a bit but was fighting some right misses.  Dropped the strip of lead tape and it's REALLY good now.  I'm not going to sw it because, quite frankly, the data is great and it feels awesome.

I have the lighter weight but felt better with the stock weight on the head. So far so good. No need for a lighter weight for

505x club plays at 46”

I keep going back and forth between the SF505X and the SF505XX.  The X does give me better numbers but I have to be very on with my swing(I also swap out for a lighter back weight).   If I’m a little off (tempo) or my timing/aggressiveness is up the XX does much better (well more consistent).  Still longer than my Ventus Black and I’ve got all 3 playing at 46”.  Also the 1K takes 4th place behind the 2 Autoflex’s and Ventus Black in both distance and dispersion.

I would like to try a Ventus Black in a 50TX playing at 46.  I wonder if the lighter weight but having the TX flex would provide a little more club and ball speed?  Currently the Ventus is about 3mph slower in swing speed and 6mph slower in ball speed vs the AF505XX.  When I’m on with my swing and I hit the SF505X it’s about 6mph on swing and up to 10mph on ball.  I did hit a couple the other day that measured 320 on the GPS when I marked it.  Now it was downwind for both but I did tee up the Ventus and it was a good 15 yards behind.  My driver swing has been off lately but the rest of my game has been very good.  Those were the only good drives I had that day.  It’s not the AutoFlex or the head as I swapped out 3 different heads, Ventus Black 6X and 7X and even tried the 1K.  Def my swing.   I’m getting into some bad old habits on the downswing because I haven’t been able to hit on the range much at all.  Stupid work!  😜

I played in a mini 9 hole tournament last week.  I hit 3 drives, longest was 250 yards as I snapped everything left.  The 250 was saved by a bunker or it would have gone OB.  Did manage to birdie the hole but it was a 7i shot out of the bunker, then 78yard wedge to 2 feet for a tap in.  Shot -3 (33) on the 9 and mostly hit my driving iron off the tee.  We played 2 more holes before we left and I had 1 more birdie. So -4 through 11 but we were playing from the whites.   Only 5,900 but my long and mid iron game have done great.  I do think it’s partially from the AF swing.  I am smoothing out my iron swing like I’ve done with the driver.  I know different attack angle and on the irons we get to the left side and the driver your pushing back a little for the reverse C but just overall tempo has helped my irons game tremendously.

wondering if anyone else has seen other parts of their game improve with the AF in the driver? Has it helped with any other clubs in your bags?

I have 2 3wd shafts 505x. One playing at 43 and the other playing at 44.  We’ll see how that goes. Head I’ll be using is a sim1 15*

The main difference maker for me has been the picked up yardage off of the tee. Anything more than 6,600 yards was tougher for me before having the autoflex. So having picked up extra yardage off the tee swaps out a mid iron with a 7-8-9-PW which makes it easier to score. I've been able to get on in two on more 500+ yard par 5s than ever before. Now a long course for me is really anything over 6,700-6,800+.

It def helps being 1, 2 or sometimes 3 or 4 clubs up from your reg distance/club.  Driver swing is still iffy but slowly starting to get it somewhat figured out.

after work today I played in another 9 hole event.  When I was off with the driver (Epic Max LS with SF505XX) I was hitting it about 260-270, which is much better than my other misses with the Ventus.  However I got a hold of one on a 510 yard par 5.  AF felt smooth and the hit solid.  I thought it was just a smoothly and I was 50 past the playing partners.  Got one 325 and had an 8i in (175).  Before I would have been starting at a 6 and more than likely 5 on that hole as I’ve played it many times.

Having had both the 505xx and 505x, my decision to go with the 505x was due to the 505xx feeling very close to a standard shaft (stiff shaft) for me and didn’t have the sling shot effect the 505x has imo. And the 505x was hitting the ball further. My misses were just about the same.

Without question.  It has helped all clubs.  The tempo it enforces for driver bleeds over to irons and the long irons benefit enormously from this.

Anyone tried a Ventus (any color) in R flex as comparison? We have noticed a few of you posting higher club & ball speed #s mentioned here when compared to ventus X flexes...but isn't the whole shtick with the AutoFlex that it's very soft in flex? Softer flex should lead to increased clubhead acceleration (and less control)? Just curious if anyone has compared.

I would have otherwise figured that fujikura would have bought an autoflex to try to figure out the deal on it in house.

All I know is higher ballspeed than my MotoreX and much better control.  Can't answer on ventus.  I have blue 6x on my G400, but the TSi4 and AF easily surpassed it.  I am still very much a fan of the MotoreX and Ventus.  No offense is intended here -- they are truly excellent shafts.

To follow that up a little more as to why I don't think an R flex will do it, here are a couple of pics from a slow motion take I did.   I would attach the vid, but it is large.

This was a kilt golf day, so there's that.  Fun.  We do this periodically and it is awesome.

But notice how much that thing bends at the start  of the downswing.   Then obviously becomes straight.  The fascinating thing is that it doesn't feel whippy AT ALL.  It is only in the wrist waggle I do before the stroke at very low speed where it feels whippy.

My apologies on my stick legs.

I have not tried the softer flex but I’ve got about 15 of the X flex’s in Red, Blue and Black.  Lol

actually I was going to try and find the 5TX in Black to see if the lighter weight would help produce more speed.  The 5TX would be comparable in weight.   I saw a 5X on here but it sold quickly and so I didn’t get a chance to try that.

So I've went down this rabbit hole as well and have a 505 in a radspeed 9* with 4 g weight in the front and 2 in the back and I'm liking it a lot. I also got a fairway af and have it in an original one mini driver turned down to 9.5 with some lead tape on the back and it is an automatic fairway finder for me.  Just like others have said experimenting to find what works seems to help the process along. I have a sim 8* coming Monday and a 505x to put in it to see if I can get the flight down but who knows.

I just got my mini driver and shaft put together! So excited for the days the driver is misbehaving! How much does your original one weigh now with the lead tape?
