I have a couple guns at home, 12 gauge short barrel and a .380 pistol.

 

I have been wanting a rifle, probably a .223, but goodness they are expensive and ammo is hard to find. I was considering one of the AR platform .22LR for now, just something to take to the range, get used to the set up. S&W makes one set up just like an AR.

 

Will prices come back down, will ammo become more readily available?

I hope ammo will replenish, maybe after this pandemic. I went to Bass Pro for 38 and 380 target and they had hardly anything. I think the same people with toilet paper have all the bullets.

Anyone who's talking about needing to get "bullets" for the "gun" they have at home so they can go to the "range" is clearly someone who should not be handling a firearm.

I'm sorry. I've got this weird hang-up. I believe that people should know what they are doing and what they are talking about.

 

Do you think you would get any different reaction if you posted a topic in the Equipment sub-forum where you were talking about needing a new "tee-ball club" and having trouble with your "sand-hole" play?

 

By the way, if you guys are really jonesing for ammo, have you ever considered reloading? Great hobby and all the ammo you can shoot for a fraction of the price.

Yes, absolutely. Semantics are an indication of mentality. People who know about firearms don't refer to them as "guns." Only children do.

As far as the OP is concerned, finding a .223 ar or rifle will be difficult, but finding ammo for them is more difficult, next to impossible. I had always encouraged people to stock up on ammo when it could be gotten easily before the CVid outbreak. Now, it is exponentially more difficult with so many more owning firearms, and the 'new times' were are now living in.

Agreed, and the ammo pipeline isn't going to be back to normal for quite some time. There is the obvious social/political climate impacting things, but the pandemic impacted the entire supply chain as well. It might be a year or longer before the craziness ends.

It's not "ammo", it's fun-packages.

It's not "firearms", it's compact mobile cannons of epic proportion.

And finally...

It's not "range", it's simulated combat training warehouse with fantastic sound deadening material.

No, you associate firearm language in common usage by the majority of folks as somehow indicative of how they treat the use of the firearms. For most, I suspect they treat firearms with the same level of respect as you do.

I don't see anything gun/firearm related becoming easier to find within the next few years.....   I would keep searching for and find an AR 223 setup since that's ultimately what you'll end up with.  No reason to drop a bunch of cash on the 22 model, after all those rounds are just as hard to find.

 

Basically go and befriend every single employee of gun shops you can to start to learn when shipments are coming in.

Hopefully we will still be able to purchase "guns" with more than 5 "bullets" four years from now.  If you want to see people that do not understand firearms, watch some of the videos of gun control folks describing what they consider to be an "assault rifle".  Like the AK 15, fully automatic, gun.

 

OP I am with you, I shoulda pulled the trigger before the election started.  I am wanting an AR too.
