We had to say goodbye to our Cocker, Riley, over the weekend.  I don't care how many times you've done this, it does not get easier.  We are heartbroken & just lost without him.  But we know we'll get thru it somehow.   He was such a good boy!

So sorry - it's always so hard but you will always have great memories and the knowledge you provided a loving home!

This is so true, and really is the only downside to having a dog. I suppose I wouldn’t want them to have a much longer life expectancy though as if they lived to be 50 I would have missed out on knowing a bunch of good friends.

Time heals, but it’s hard. If you don’t already have another dog there probably will be another buddy that you’ll come across one day. Im very sorry for your loss.

This is our 5 month old smooth haired Cockapoo, Ernie! He was a surprise for my partners 30th birthday. I never knew how much I missed having a dog until we got him! Although having a pup is quite tricky!

Good looking guy. If you didn't say his breed I'd guess he was a Golden as a couple of my pups looked a lot like him.

We get that a lot! He is a bit of a mix, but yeah his dad was a full poodle and his mum was a cocker!

He is adorable!  And yes, puppies are a lot of work, but only for a little while, and it's worth all the trouble.  Mostly you have to train yourself to train a puppy the right way.  Have fun with Ernie!

8.5 year old lab mix Sammy, the Black one in the pics collapsed in the yard this morning. Brought to emergency vet, congestive heart failure. Passed this morning.

Was fine this weekend (Pic with tennis ball was this Sunday), and Monday. Yesterday just a little sluggish and was thinking the 2 consecutive days of "heat" (80s) we've had here in RI...  Had a good and fun life, loved balls, beaches, walks and companionship.

Hug 'em while ya got 'em.

So very sorry for your loss.  He looks as though he lived a full life and was a lucky dog.  And you were lucky to have him grace your lives.

Thank you for the advice and while mine doesn't truly "like" hugs she for sure will be getting one soon.

Yes, I remember your three Cockers well.  I don't know how you can handle losing several dogs in a short time span.  It's been a month since we lost Riley, and it's still hard.  Of course, my other Cocker's been gone for over 7 years & it's hard....he was my true "heart" dog & was 16 when he passed. I'm not ready for another dog yet, husband's having some health issues & we have to travel out of town every few weeks and now's just not the time to bring in another dog....but when we do, it'll no doubt be a Cocker.

This is me. I’ve posted about some dogs in my life but didn’t mention Frisky yet. He was a Beagle - Corgi - ? mix my family got from the pound when I was 5 years old. He was the only dog I had growing up as he lived to be 16. I was 21 when I had to take my buddy to the vet and say goodbye. He had been lethargic and unresponsive for months but no one in my family had the stones to do anything so I finally stepped up. I had to carry him everywhere as he was so weak and I knew it was time. When I got to the vets office,  for the first time in months he sat up and licked my face just before the vet put him down. I don’t have to tell you I was a wreck, and I’m sure i was a strange sight to others as I drove home. A true heart dog who was literally my best childhood friend. We did everything together and he was always there for me. I still compare dogs to the standard he set and while others are (much) better trained there is something about your childhood dog that sets them apart.

I understand completely. And that doesn't lessen the love you have for other dogs that enter our lives.
