I really don’t think he should be banned from anything. That’s part of the problem. Not being able to have discussions aids dissent. It happens even on here. You get censored. As a Canadian, I envy Americans’ guaranteed freedom of speech as we do not have that same freedom in Canada. We have to bite our tongues more often.  Although from the outside looking in, I do see it deteriorating when people are cancelled outright. 
But I guess freedom of speech doesn’t entitle someone to freedom of consequence for said speech.

Justin’s actions have done some damage to his reputation and will likely include some other consequences.

 

A reputation is always being earned and is never achieved.  I cannot speak to the man’s character as I do not know him, but I believe his apology and that he wants to do better moving forward.  That does nothing to shield him from the consequences for his actions.

 

If I, or anyone else, was overheard muttering that term to myself in the course of my employment, it would be my employer’s right and duty to hold me accountable.

 

JT has an opportunity to learn and grow from this mistake and rebuild his reputation.  I’m optimistic he possesses the character needed to do so.  Life and golf are games of continuous improvement.

Agee and disagree. Sports star yes, but product endorsers have more responsibility than playing a game. With that said, JT used an antiquated slur against himself. He should have known better, he apologized for it. He probably will never use it again. Time to accept apology and move on. 

 

Heck it was a big playground insult when I was a kid. Just like "your mom wears army boots"... Really dumb when you consider many fine women, including moms are honorably serving today.

I don't get why people are so against judging. It's literally how we do everything, how we.....select. We literally judge things and determine what works best for us. Count me as pro-judge.

Well i for one love a good judging of peoples methods for judging. It is one of my main ways to judge people.

Is this where we all signal our virtues, pretending like we're blameless people who've never said anything that offended one of the other 7.5 billion people on the planet?  7.5 billion people clinging to a single rock that is hurtling through space at 66,000mph...yet we're trying to maintain some zero defect standard?  

 

Nobody alive could withstand any level of real scrutiny on their lives.  Justin Thomas blurted out a word that he shouldn't have.  I suppose that cancels out all the good things he's done in his life?

 

I also love how we've become a society of people who are "strong, independent, etc., etc." while simultaneously being easily offended by words.  It takes a lot of talent to occupy polar opposite identities at the same time.

I really do understand where you’re coming  from. But I also know from experience that reading one or two responses from people here may not truly be indicative of how they really are.

True. But also a brand ambassador. Some brands and businesses make business decisions based on behaviour.

Suppose Justin Thomas used all of his endorsement money to build homes for the homeless and provide food for the hungry?  What would the net effect be for cancelling the guy because he uttered a word that offended someone?
