Scotty Mil-Spec find.....happy dance ensues.

Logged on yesterday morning to 2ndswing and look what I found. It was listed as a Mid-Slant, but the first pic was easily identifiable due to the sole. Quickest purchase I have ever made on that site. I haven't owned a Mil-Spec before but I have always been hunting....It arrives tomorrow...but here are the pics. Looks immaculate. Thoughts from those that have owned one?

Congrats! I had one years ago. That one seems to be in pretty good shape. If I remember correctly the head is pretty small compared to today's newport/anser styles. 

 

It's a solid putter, but there wasn't anything particularly special about it. I'd say about 50% of the guys I played with back in the early-mid 2000s had a mil-spec. It was probably one of if not the most popular SC back then, and pretty much "anyone who was someone" had one in their bag. 

 

I sold my mil-spec years ago, but I still have my Santa Fe TeI3 from that same time period. In my opinion the TeI3 line are the best putters Scotty has every produced.

I would love a TeI3 at some point.....baby steps for me. Excited to try this and see the feel/roll for me.

2nd Swing will often label a product wrong, this usually turns into the favor of a buyer who is paying attention. Nice find.

I love that you posted this just for people to hop on and tell you how great the putter is and how much you'll enjoy it. I have one that's not quite as good shape, although the face milling is really good. Love that putter!

Congrats on your find, I hope you make lots of birdies with it.  This putter is one of those rare stories I have....I found one of these in the used bin of my local golf shop a couple years ago for $100.  Think we worked out a deal for $90 + tax.  Wasn't in nearly as good of shape as yours though.

Nice find! You’re going to love it. I have two of the 350g heads, both of which I had refinished by BOS. One oil can and one black oxide. I have a lotttttt of putters and these are my favs. They age like fine wine. Incredible feel that newer Scotties just can’t compete with. Hang onto it!

I owned a 34/340 mil-spec in the past. It is a tad thinner than the more modern Anser/Newport.

 

It looks like yours is more upright (with u painted).

You have the 2nd most popular Mil-spec with 34/340gm and the most popular is the 33/350gm model.

I have a lefty 35/320gm that I've been using for a long time and so far I putt the best with this putter and I've owned 009M and others as well.

Looks to be in very good shape, depending on what you paid for it it could be a very good deal. They are the closest to a 009 head style and cost less than 10% of a 009. Nothing particularly special about them, the newest OTR series has very similar feel IMHO, while years past have been largely garbage. I can’t find a putter that feels better than my 2011 studio select and I have tried as hard as I can.

I would say the Special Select feels as good.  I will admit up until the Special Select I did not like the feel of Camerons for a long time. I played / still own a Studio Stainless I gamed since the day it came out.  The select is the only putter I think fthat eels as good, bit better with firmer balls. 

 

I also have a fairly rare TEL3 Sole Stamp - First Article (first 500 Bertti machined/SC Built) and its funny on the new balls it has really FIRM feel.  On the old Titleist professionals I am sure it felt great but those balls are soooo soft you could use a rock on a stick...LOL

This is sort of how I got my 34/340.  Was on Golfavenue and the same mislabel.  Was in disbelief and quickly bought it.  Even sent them a msg when it wasn't taken down that I had got it...

I just sold my 34”/340. Was too inconsistent off the face like a part of the face was hollow and other areas not so. Felt dense one putt and the next putt hollow. I don’t get this feeling from my other manufacturers. Probably me though!!

I have an old 35/330 Mil-Spec with a couple of strips of lead tape on the bottom. It comes and goes in and out of the bag.

Thats a great price for that condition for sure... enjoy it.  That benefit to those is that if you didnt like it you could likely sell it again for what you paid.

Nice.  Still love mine.  I checked Second Swing every day.  I haven't found a deal in a while.  But here is the story on how I scored my first 33/350 Mil-Spec.  Enjoy the new putter.  Looks fantastic.
