I prob should just wait on the i230, but everything about the i525s are great, they just sound and feel awful to me. If I could fix the sound and feel pretty good chance they would go in the bag.

Don’t the cotton balls make the clubs non-conforming because they are not fixed in their location? If so I would not be interested in that. As @hammergolfinitially asked, could hot melt be added to these heads? Just a few grams would soften the sound.

I believe that they already have hot melt from the factory and that's how they improved feel and sound relative to the i500.

Not sure how much more can be added; I suspect that switching to graphite shafts and/or adding a dampening insert like Prosoft or Cushin may be the way to go.

4 grams of hot melt.

I’ve had 525s out twice for 9 holes. When you hit it solid sound and feel is fine. I don’t expect it to feel good off the toe. I want that feedback.
I just don’t see what all the negative fuss is about.

If all your used to hitting is cast iron there shouldn't be much to think about, but when you hit the sweet spot on a Mizzy, Srixon or PXG it's Design Butter GIF by Par Vous Designsbut when you do miss hit it then it's like Aidy Bryant Snl GIF by Saturday Night Live

I would be interested in how you like the gap wedge?  I am likely going to order a set of 525's and I was considering getting two gap wedges (a power spec and a retro spec 1* weak).  That 53/54 slot is almost always a full swing club for me and use my 58* for almost everything besides greenside chips with.

I do currently play a Glide 3 54* but I'd be very interested in keeping it consistent straight through the SW spot.

Thanks for any thoughts.

50* U wedge used mostly for full swing and pitch and release shots.
50* glide 2.0 stealth has worked out well in the past.
and I may consider adding the glide 4.0 50* - if they release stealth version

Just ordered with steelfibers.   Custom build via club champ... we'll see how long this takes.

I'm hopeful since I didn't order with ctaper lites, which actually outperformed SF, but I've gamed those for 6+ yrs.

Have you received your irons? I currently play SF and curious to hear how they pair up with the i525 heads.

Thanks

anyone here compare I525 with Mizuno JPX921 Hot Metal Pro?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Thank

Those were the top two on my fittings. I currently play the JPX919 hot metal pro. The JPX921 actually were a little longer but I had a higher flight and better land angle with the i525. Plus didn't really want to buy a new set that look just like my old set. In the end I liked how the Ping i525 total yardage was closer to the carry yardage with 7 iron. For me, I think either one would be good. Personally don't remember the sound being bad so I hope thats the case when the Ping's come in. Ordered 4/27 no word on ship date yet

Wow, very helpful. thank you.

I was gaming jpx919 forged but wanted a little more forgiveness and so picked up the jpx921 hmp. while forgiving, there are a few times where I get some insane distances, guess folks call them fliers? I think historically, the JPX line has been low spin, at least for me, so I'm not getting great stopping power into greens.

I just looked back at my Trackman report it doesn't show peak height I guess. Spin was 600+ RPM higher with the ping. Total Carry vs Total Yards 7+ with ping 11+ with mizuno. Other big difference was total yardage high vs low Ping 4+ vs Mizuno 11+ so distance dispersion was a lot better.

Of course this is only a limited number of shots 8+ with each and not same shaft in both so others results may very.

Yup.  Lovely with the SF.  Took about a month.

I am going to change to i95 though, but that's on me and the fitter.  I love the i110 but I went too heavy with SW and probably should have tried 95 before I jumped in.  90 day guarantee, so...

Played 4 rounds with them, so far...the feel is great, long irons are better than i500 IMO.   What I got from SF was slightly higher launch, higher descent angle/peak height...and they definitely dampen the vibration that I noticed with steel.

awesome to hear and thank you for sharing. I'm about to pull the trigger.

With the Mizzy 921 HMP, this was first time going with SF i95 as previously played Recoil 95 Prototypes but really enjoying the SF's. For me, 95 gm shaft is perfect for me.

Price wise, I'm getting quoted $210 per iron (i525 with SF i95). Does that sound reasonable?

Good to hear back about the 95's.  Really liked the 95, just felt effortless after dropping the weight.  Could even gear up and it handled the swing...I'm not a true WRX 140g titanium tour x+ hard stepped 4x...but I can put a good swing on it.

I think SF are like $60 upcharge?  Something like that, so price pretty good seems.  Not an expert there...stuff just more expensive these days, doubt it'll get any cheaper...

Ok, was able to experiment putting the polystyrene beads inside my i525 7 iron. Unfortunately it did not help with sound or feel. Right or wrong this leads me to believe the sound is coming from the frame, not the fact it’s hollow. One more experiment is trying a bit of sound deadening tape used in cars on the back of the iron to see if that helps. Really want these to work, but I may just have to sell them and wait for i230….

Other than sound and feel - how is performance for you?

I had 4 shots inside 10’ this morning and 2 others that spun back off green. There is something to the 4 extra grooves low on the face.

I’d recommend tying a different shaft before dumping and waiting for something that doesn’t have a release date.

They perform great. I just can’t do the broken/cracked sound. They go high and straight I just wish they didn’t feel like the face breaks every time I hit them. I’ve got graphite shafts in them and play a pretty soft ball so I just do see the sound and feel getting better. I’m trying to sell them and will just play my PXG Gen3’s until the i230s come out. If someone wants a great deal, the on,y club in the set that’s been hit is the 7 iron about 20 times.

I have never see a new set of irons hit the market and seem to have people looking to get rid of them so quickly. I sold my G710's because a mishit felt almost identical to hitting the sweet spot and I didn't care for the sound of them back then. So these i525's didn't turn out to be the club I was hoping for. I really thought these were going to be a big hit.

I've got a few rounds in with my i525 and I'll be honest, not sure I like them more than my i500s.

They look better and sound better for sure.  They are very straight and hit it notably higher (my 525 do have an extra 1/4" on the shaft, so I guess that could make the difference?  I don't have the ability to hit cuts with them at all.  I'm on the fence with them currently.  I do think they're easier to hit and launch it higher, but that not all that I'm looking for in an iron.

Also, side note, they're probably 1/2 to a full club longer on solid hits.  I've gone from a 180ish 7i to close to 195, its fun but I'm not sure its what I actually want...

I need more height than I get with my i500 4 and 5 irons (which are 1/4” over) so I did a head to head Trackman test between my i500 and i525 and G425 4 irons.

There was clear separation between all three and results were very repeatable. In terms of height, it was G425 > i525 > i500.

I'd agree, I have a G425 5i and 4i that I'm playing around with as well, and the powerspec 5i really covers my gap between my 3h and my 6i well.
