Ball shortage????

Not sure if there will be a shortage in the spring, but my thinking is that DSG/GG have the industry power to keep their house brand in stock. Picked up 3 dozen Maxfli tour in yellow with rewards and the 40% off coupon came in at about $12/dozen. So far on the indoor sim the performance is quite good. Even at the standard 2 for $60, I’ll plan to use them next golf season.

Hmmm….but…but…wouldn’t it make more sense that the company that sells more balls than anyone….and actually produces their own balls would be able to always have balls in stock in a virtual limitless supply?  More so than a Dicks or Costco and their supposed buying power?  And yet??

Perhaps, but I have heard that that company might, just might, move to producing only the highest margin balls that will cost nearly $60/dozen after that company raises prices soon. Thus, their cheaper balls will sell out. Give me the 2 dozen at $60 as opposed to the 1 dozen.

If the Maxfli Tour is your ball of choice, the 48 pack for $105 is probably the way to go.  As for balls made by Acushnet, I'd be pretty surprised if at any point next year people aren't able to find any of the current Titelist or Pinnacle models (limited release items excluded) online but I guess we'll see.  Maybe they stop producing Union Green balls but that ship probably already sailed anyways.  They probably have more than enough of those on hand to cover any demand (if there is any significant demand to speak of).

Of course they do…but like I said that still gives them an advantage over the likes of Dicks or Costco depending on others.

But you said "wouldn’t it make more sense that the company that sells more balls than anyone….and actually produces their own balls would be able to always have balls in stock in a virtual limitless supply".

That's what I was commenting on.

As for who gets more of a limited supply,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I would expect Costco, or Walmart, despite their huge overall advantage in "buying power" not to get much in the way of supply over PGATSS and other big box GOLF ONLY stores.

But that's not the same issue.

In an email from @Snell Golf they spoke to the ball shortage past and present-

"Next year we will continue to have challenges in supply. The biggest issue out there is the short supply of materials to make the golf balls. Several manufactures use the same materials, so with the shortages from suppliers, everyone is in a similar situation. As you can expect, we are not the top dogs in the game (not yet anyway, haha), so we are not at the top of the list with allocated supply."

More confirms what was thought- the biggest brands have priority on materials going into next year, will have to keep an eye on stock and prices. Also another nugget that may have been mentioned, @Snell Golf prototypes for new/redesigned balls will be put on hold until supply chain issues clear up later 2022-2023

I was in a Golftown on Thursday and was shocked at the dearth of non top of line balls in the store. There were  TP5/5x, Chromesofts, Prov1, AVX, Z Stars but not much of any of the lower tier models. Even these models were't there in the normal volume but that is likely due to the golf season being over and change over to a new model year but the of balls in store was pretty noticeable.

Was at the Scottsdale,AZ pga superstore which is pretty big and popular to try and return my white prov1x for yellows.

Cashier said I was SOL since they don’t have any prov1, prov1x or chromesofts in stock and won’t have any for the next 3 months…

To be clear that’s no yellow balls in those brands? They do have white.

Wow, I had glanced at the website and they showed stock in white. Glad I’m stocked.

That is the limited release Left Dot ball.  Has nothing to do with ball shortage, just limited supply made and released of that model.

Are you sure? That seems like an awful lot of money for something as silly as a "limited release", but I'm no expert. 🤣

I’m positive.  Titleist released them on their website. It sold out in less than one day.  I snagged two dozen at $50 each. ( which is the max you could order).  I sold them on the Bay for $180 each.

I guess you could say that about lots of things, like Scotty Cameron putters that go for thousands simply because in has a circle T Tour only stamp on the sole, or ‘tour issue’ drivers and whatnot that fetch big money…

Some on ebay went for $225+, it's silly really. I have a sharpie, I'll only charge you a buck to put a dot on your ball. 🤣
