Lockdown and guilty pleasures

I think Melbourne - at approximately 210 days - is now only second to Buenos Aires for the most number of days in COVID-related hard lockdown.  Probably another 8 or 9 weeks to go.

 

To pass the time, I have re-acquainted myself with my collection of golf coaching videos I downloaded from the athletemotion website a few years ago.  This was the website where you could upload a few swing videos, and pay a coach for advice. One day i discovered if you change the URL, you could access other lessons.

 

A few years later, these videos are my sanity keeping golf-lockdown guilty pleasure.

 

What else can I try?

When Montreal was in full closures (basically april/may 2020 and then again Jan/Feb 2021) i set up pillows against my wall and used to hit wiffle balls into them off of my old baby mats.

 

It actually worked surprisingly well.

 

I also exercised more, jogged longer distances etc. We never had any kilometer restrictions you could go from your house or anything. I also in Jan/ Feb would go drive my car in the snow for fun through trails and etc. Again we had no restrictions on driving cars or etc.

When you take a break from golf video's check out on YouTube the Hindley Street Country Club. Worlds best cover band based out of Adelaide Australia.

I was taking long walks around our neighborhood with my kids. We live in a "downtown" area, so lots of buildings, parking garages, secret passages, and interesting things to find. Over the course of a couple of months, we got to know the neighborhood real well. 

 

I was also sneaking onto local muni courses a playing a few holes. Can't deny it.

 

Call the WRX police!

Yeah, we have rabid little league parents around here too. Always surprising how protective they become over a field that is used for two months out of the year for a bunch of kids who don't want to be playing baseball anyway.

For me it was because golf was outlawed at the time. The field wasn't in use , i was using it to hit wiffle balls. They had to drag me away , shirtless as i kicked and screamed and yelled "SIM SEMPER TYRRANIS!"

Stay strong bro...That sucks. I don't want to go to far down the wrong path of what can't be discussed here. We had some controversial stuff in Canada, but nothing like what you guys are experiencing.

I wasn’t aware of the incredibly harsh lockdown in AUS until this thread. I had a look around the internet and holy smokes. I found one video of a police chief telling the media that he had arrested someone for being outside of their house with no good excuse, and the media was backing him up. If I were you I’d fill my time with applying for citizenship elsewhere.

Agree. They are pretty dang awesome.

We had about 3 months of golf courses and other outside group activities being closed in 2020.  I'm not real proud of it but I have to say that beer and streaming tv helped with the boredom.  Going to the store became a social event for many people, every time I went grocery shopping there were people who were just milling about.

Yeah, same here.  3 months of no golf last year.  It was excrutiating.  Gyms were closed too.  Income was somewhat limited as a result.  Luckily I run my business with my business partner out of his home gym which consists of a set of power blocks, Jones machine, some hammer strength machines, resistant bands and other misc. stuff.  I also spent more time with the wife and dog(RIP) as well.  I also spent more time in the kitchen cooking which I am adverse too, haha.
