It's not as bad as you think.  I was pretty concerned about it, but was committed to 225 throughout the bag.  What I realized is the 225s(and 223s) are essentially a combo set of 3 different irons.   That as a bonus, all look similar.

 

8-PW are slightly longer than my mp-4s but not "hot".   As such the gapping is pretty good. Like I was getting around 10 yards difference on the sim, and it seems to be playing out on the course.

 

6-7 definitely are hotter. Like 8->7 are around 12 yards.  The biggest difference is that there are much more forgiving than the 8 iron. The only reason it "jumps" is because I've swung harder and its so forgiving I still catch it well. Its training me to be more consistent in my swing speed, and if I do that its not going to jump.

 

4-5 are hot and the gapping is definitely more like 15+ yards. But I'll take the larger gap for the consistency and forgiveness.  I will never be dotting the flag from 5 and 4 irons distances anyway.  But I would (with my old irons) hit it thin and end up way short.  

 

All up I've hit probably 5 of my best iron shots of the last 5 years in the two weeks since I got them. Many reasons for that (shafts that fit for my age now vs 9 years ago). 

 

tldr;

The gapping was surprising not as big of an issue as I thought. Mizuno has thought about this problem.  It's not just hot irons with low lofts.

I thought it was shocking how different the 8 and 9 irons top lines were in the 225. They are DRASTICALLY different. Looking down on the 9 and PW of the 225 looks like a blade, honestly. Way smaller than my 223.

Oh that sucks. I broke two ribs playing basketball and when I pulled up to my house, my Mizuno box (225s) was sitting on my doorstep. After after two months, I'm finally getting to use them. Hang in there.

I ordered mine the 21st.  Have you heard anything from Mizuno as to whether they have built up your set? They've pushed my ship date out twice now (latest being today the 15th) but I have not heard anything.  Last time I order a new set this close to the season

I'm stuck between the 225 and 223.    I only have hit the 7 irons, and prefer the 225.   I'm a +2 but not a high SS guy.  I hit my 7 160ish and definitely need help with distance and contact with the 4-5-6 iron.    I've been playing i200-i210 for the last 3-4 years.

Sounds similar to me.

 

I chose the 223 because I know that they will be consistent. I know people in this thread have said over and over that they havent/wont catch hot fliers with the 225, but I just have trouble believing it. Any hollow bodied distance iron can catch a super hot one, I have had it happen and have seen it (not necessarily with the 225 but with similar clubs). Any Mizuno "players" iron, you dont have that. You will have consistency. Obviously you can catch fliers in the rough with ANY club, but I am talking about the random screamer from a predictable lie. It happens with the players distance clubs.

225’s are the best set of irons I’ve ever owned.  They are near perfect in every way for me.

Ordered my 225s on 2/5, they came in this past Monday. 
 

I am going with the set gap wedge and then two Edel SMS wedges, a 54 T grind and a 58 C grind.

I went with the set gap wedge also.

95%of the time it's a full swing club, I think of it as a PW from back in the day.

T22 54* & 58*.....couldn't be happier

I went with the same configuration. I’ve tried a specialty gap wedge before and I didn’t care for it vs a set gap wedge. Especially since I always use it for full shots.

Just ordered a 4-PW set of the 223 with Modus 120X shafts through GlobalGolf's certified pre-owned program.  Never have purchased from this program before, but the Modus 120X is my shaft and I figured it might save a couple month wait time and saved $300 off new price.  Wished they had the GW but am more interested in the 4-7 added forgiveness vs my gamers.

Ordered 223s through Discount Dans 1/26 (DG120, TV Cord grips) and just got my shipping notification from DDs so should have them next week! Just got knocked out of our annual matchplay tournament so good time to break in some new irons!

My order for 223s (Blackout LZ 6.5 and Blue MCC grips) was ordered on 2/23. My golf shop received them on Monday 4/11. Unfortunately, I left for my trip to Pebble Beach on 4/9. Looking forward to picking them up on Monday. I’ll post an update once I get them on the course.

I was just told my 223 order placed on 02/23 shipped today. Just under 8 weeks to ship. May have them by the end of the week (in Canada)

So I got an update on my no 225 iron order and my dad’s mp225 order from early February. 
 

The iron orders were lumped in with a large wedge order from the pro shop I ordered through. The wedge order was back ordered for a considerable amount of time. So he called mizuno and asked them to cancel just the wedge order, but leave the iron orders. 
 

well he finally got in touch with them today….the entire order was canceled including my irons which was news to him. So he’s going to resubmit my orders and hopefully they can throw my orders in line where they were supposed to be. 
 

furious doesn’t begin to explain how I feel. 
 

He told me that they should get our orders out by end of the week, or early next week. This is twice that mizuno has done this to orders of mine this year. I’d consider my mizuno order experience thus far as unpleasant.

They screwed my 225 order as well.  Went with 223 off the shelf in almost identical build spec I was fitted for and I cannot be happier.  They are amazing

If this hadn’t been resolved how it had been, I would have gone a similar route. Glad your story has a happy ending! Hopefully mine will as well.

Quick question.  I’m new to mizuno irons.  I have read that they measure length a bit different and irons come in a quarter inch longer than most manufacturers.  Is this true?  Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they measure to the end of shaft so when the grip is installed, it ends up being +1/4" long due to the grip cap.
