It takes time, but women's sports are moving up:

The Battle for Equity in NCAA Basketball

"Despite this, women’s basketball has grown exponentially. Ratings have skyrocketed. ESPN sold out advertising and sponsorship inventory for the 2022 tournament faster than ever, ESPN coordinating producer Patricia Lowry told Front Office Sports. On-the-ground sponsorship activations have increased. Even the ESPN women’s bracket challenge participation has risen.

For those (not) interested, looks like Oz gets the same/similar coverage as you do in the US.

So I might be mistaken, but based on my memory of last season, are LPGA events getting poorer coverage this season?

In Oz we'd get 4 live rounds of 4 (I think) hours and on my service (the standard subscription sports service Foxtel/Kayo) all rounds were available for on demand replay for at least a month.

Not that way this year and I am seeing comments from you North American forumers siting similar coverage.

What's going on?

Yes, this is the 1st year I noticed that each week there are more hours streamed than shown live, which I wouldn't care about but the US is the only place you can access the stream, so much for a global tour lol.  Golf Channel is the problem imo, too much content and not enough place to show it and all event basically happen the same for 4 days during the same time lol.  I still say the LPGA has to create their own platform for content distribution, yes it's expensive and scary but so is the real world.  I think the problem, too many LPGA execs past/present would rather sit at a podium and virtue signal their way into economic prosperity rather than put in the work to make the needed structural change to make your tour at least grow and sustain itself.

@Stooch The statement "the US is the only place you can access the stream" = isn't quite true.

For UK viewers (or those with a VPN that you can set to a UK virtual I.P. address)... you can view the SkySportsGolf youtube channel and its 'Livestream' (i think piggybacking off  GolfChannel/ prevailing host network)

The two hours bothers me more than the tape delay. There’s one hour of Golf Central before and six hours of PGA repeat after. They can’t give us a third hour of LPGA?

Golf Channel can't just give the LPGA extra over the air television time off the cuff. GC shows what was agreed to based on what was negotiated in the most recent round of television contracts. The LPGA does deserve more OTA television time. Unfortunately it won't be happening anytime soon. Like 2031 based on their most recent television contract that were negotiated as part of the new PGA Tour television contracts. Remember the LPGA agreed to take part in what the next  (PGA Tour) television contracts were negotiated back in 2020. Recall the LPGA and PGA Tour entered into some form of partnership/alliance in that time frame.

These links are both well worth the few minutes it will take to read them. Especially the lpga.com link. The reality is that no matter how much complaining is going to continually be done about this it's not going to change anytime soon.

https://www.si.com/golf/news/5-ways-the-lpga-can-supercharge-its-product

1. Find another TV network

Easier said than done, but worth trying. The PGA Tour and LPGA deal with Golf Channel/NBC announced in 2020 lasts until 2030. The PGA Tour apparently takes the vast majority of the revenue from that deal, according to The Athletic, and given the amount of prime live viewing time the women get, would, on its face, seem like a bad deal.

The LPGA Tour is being suffocated from within by Golf Channel. The network’s contracts with the PGA Tour — which includes the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour Champions, along with the European Tour, leave hardly any live weekend airtime for the women, even on an all-golf network

LPGA

As part of its Strategic Alliance with the LPGA, the PGA TOUR also successfully negotiated rights agreements that will see the LPGA Tour continue as anchor programming on GOLF Channel, along with expanded exposure for LPGA Tour events on NBC and CBS each year, beyond the U.S. Women’s Open, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and AIG Women’s British Open, which are already on network.

Specifically, the TOUR secured the long-term extension of the LPGA/GOLF Channel partnership (2022-2030) with ancillary programming, including a season preview, season review and Road to the CME Group Tour Championship.  In addition, GOLF Channel will provide dedicated programming for the Epson Tour each year, as well as enhanced marketing and promotional assets and expanded benefits for LPGA sponsors.

As I speculated earlier, the three JTBC tournaments on the original 2022 LPGA schedule were place holders while Mollie searched for tournament sponsors.  It turned out to be exactly what's happened.

The  two JTBC tournaments in April have changed to:

April 21-24                                DIO Implant LA Open

April 28-1                                  Palos Verdes Championship presented by Bank of America

The purses were unchanged, $1.5 millions.

Is Marathon stepping away from women's golf? I assume they still sponsor Ally Ewing.

You could be right.

The tournament that used to be sponsored by Marathon Oil is now "DANA Open presented by Marathon".  Clearly, Marathon is cutting back their investment in women's golf.  I suspect Marathon's cutback may have to do with their much larger competitor, Chevron, stepped in to sponsor a Major tournament.
