Tell me about your 7 wood.

Another option would be a super high spin 5 wood like the Mizuno stz.  If you want soft landing performance from 220+, you're going to need a ton of spin.  That spin will tank your yardages real quick, so the gapping might be better with a high spin 5 wood that goes 20-30 yards shorter than normal.

The Ping G425 7 wood was nice (played it with Ventus Blue 7x) but almost too hot. Started to bleed into my other woods.

That's my worry - have the G425 5 Wood and with only 3* difference between the two not sure how well it would work for gapping. All my fairway woods I have to open up the face for them to look right to me so can't really play around there.

I am a little bit curious about trying the 9 Wood, but not quite sure what would happen with my swing speed (Driver 110). Anybody give one a go?

Yes, I got the G425 9 wood as just a fun experiment. It was great, but then I sold it for some reason. Flash forward six months and I bought another one -- this time a Sim2 Max with Ventus Blue 7x. My swing speed is similar. Bottom line -- it's a tremendously easy-to-hit club that is unparalleled hitting into greens, and works great out of the rough. The only problem, as you might have guessed, is that it goes to the moon. So on reasonably calm days, it's an absolute weapon. On windy days, best leave it at home. Fun club to have in the rotation though. It's incredibly consistent. Great club for long par 3s. I'll never it a 4i/5i/6i as consistently straight as I hit the 9w.

Regarding the G425s, I did indeed have gapping issues with the 5w and 7w. Different trajectories, but total distance was too similar.

All Titleist 7 woods are great.

I loved my 917 F2. On the spinnier side, but stopped on a dime. Hit it about 220-225 and it would stop on a dime. Nice feel.

Agreed on the 917, doesn't get much better in my opinion. I play mine with a Hzrdus Red, and it's definitely spinny. I got it primarily to hit into some long par 3s, and it's perfect for that.

Again, if the one (maybe 2) lefty 4 wood (poor man's HL 3? 😁) in existence works for you, then rock on! But good luck finding one on a shelf that isn't on display as a joke.

My Stealth 7W should be here Thursday, so I will report back in a couple weeks.  This is going to replace my 3H  for the time being.  I have a 4H in the bag only 1* weaker or so, so I’m not sure how the top of the bag will play out this year.

As somebody mentioned earlier TS2 21 degree in the C1 position has been a par 5 weapon when the wind is down for me. I picked up the head cheap as it was sold with a regular flex shaft(PGA Superstore clearance) . Dropped a 90 gram shaft in it and has been great. I have read many forums on here about 7 woods and how getting a heavier shaft is the key. Couldn’t agree more from my own personal experience.

At some point when we get into spring there are a few shafts I still want to try in my 7 wood. I’ve got an old school Rombax P95 and a Diamana BF 100 TX, would also like to pickup a Ventus Black 10X. For now the Raw White 2.0 85 TX has been a great free shaft from titleist to start with.

Tour Edge Exotics CB2 with Ventus Red 9X. Although it's 15 years old it can still compete with the newer stuff. It's a HOF fairway, right next to the V-Steel.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

First time putting a 7 wood in the bag last season and it’s not coming out.  Absolutely love it!  Perfect 220-230 club that lands so soft.  It has really changed my game for long par 3’s and shorter par 5’s.

Callaway UW 21* I swing my driver about 105 and it is a perfect 205-210 club for me. It is just so easy to hit from any lie and it sits completely neutral no left bias. Really nice consistent mid to mid-high trajectory with plenty enough spin to hold greens.  I would put this up against any 21 degree fairway wood and bet it beats it for distance and consistency.

I am gaming the same club that replaced my old trusty Callaway Heavenwood. I also ended up getting the Callaway UW 17* to replace my Callaway Rogue 5 wood. Both clubs perform excellent and consistent. Highly recommended for those like me who aren't too keen on playing hybrids and prefer woods. You get best of both worlds. Enjoy!!!

I’m tinkering with a couple 7 woods in hopes of having something I can hit high and soft from 220+. I think by far I’ve liked the PING G425 7 wood the best. The lowest loft setting really opens the face and gives me a great look at address. Biggest issue I’ve found is that most manufacturers are going to produce 7 woods with a little more upright lie angle and shut face which makes sense for the masses. Have you played around with higher lofted fairway woods and what did you go with?

PING G425 20.5  set to “Big -“ w/ Diamana Kai’li 80x tipped 1.5” @42”

This is almost the exact same club I have.  I consider it my 5 wood.  I think opening the face on the Ping makes it play flatter?  The 425 Max definitely seems to have a closed face at address in the default position.  But, opened up that far, it has a good look behind the ball.  And it's super easy to launch.  Pretty consistent spin too.  I struggle with fairways off the deck and only carry a 3 wood for a tee option.  This thing has been money for me.

I am going into Season 12 with some combo of 4W + 7W. (Switched models a couple of times)

My latest is a Rogue 7W that took a little work to get. Got both Rogues near the end of the production cycle. Got 4W used, but no men's 7Ws to be had - sold out quickly. So, I looked at Rogue fairway specs, and found the loft, lie angle and head size identical for men's and women's models. So, I got an almost new women's model and had my clubsmith reshaft it with PX EvenFlow 5.5 (R) shaft.

7W has worked very well.

I did put a couple of grams of tungsten tape in toe (slot in sole) to slow down toe closure. Also, I choke down a half inch which helps flatten the lie just a bit. Only time I hold at full length when I want a draw on a tee shot.

Choking down/trimming shaft is one way to overcome too upright a lie.

Also, for bonded head fairway woods, a clubsmith can tweak the grip alignment so the clubface is a degree open at address.

The last 3 things you mentioned is exactly how I have my V-Steel tricked up with one exception. I use Tour Wrap grips so I have mine turned down but I know how to sight it up for what the shot requires

I went for a 41" shaft on my G425 7 wood (big minus setting) for that reason. The Ping fitter recommended this and said a lot of players are going for 41" and big minus.

I didn't want it going to far because then it leaves too big a gap between itself and 4 hybrid and doesn't leave a space for another wood between driver and 7W.

I've been looking at this model. Larger hybrid/smaller FW, but deep face. Reviews seem good

US Kids used to make a club called the Fairway Flyer, no idea what the loft was, but I had one and always landed that thing softly on the green when I was younger...despite the name, there was no easier club to hit when you had a nice lie in the rough.

Would like the adult version of that...

Also one of the few that offers a 12* left handed driver

I hadn't noticed, but that is also interesting that all 3 lofts are also in lefty vs pretty much everyone else that offers 1 if any. Not all models, but at least all versions of the model offered.

I'm still interested in the Sub70 (only the D is available), but I will hold out for Haywood's release.

Play my G425 at small - w/Tensei PO 75s

I most of my college days with a Steelhead III 7 wood with the uniflex shaft. Could full send it 210 or 3/4 swing it down to 180, always landing softly. Of course, I sold it to pay for a hot new hybrid or fairway wood or something else I hated.

Saw one recently on a used rack, and the head was WAY smaller than I remember it. Smaller than the hybrid I was playing at the time. Enter the G425 and my 7 wood days are back.

just ordered the PXG 0341 Proto 7wood... my fitting process showed that the 7wood fits perfectly between my 4 iron and 3 wood. It launches easier than a 3 hybrid and I was more consistent with distance and dispersion. For me its the perfect 225 - 230 yard carry club. The flat setting takes away that high toe closed look I didn't like with the hybrids.
