Exactly, he's only had one realistic chance to win since the COVID restart. But this is a weird game and Rickie could have one magical week that changes his career. With that said I think Tiger will get a top 10/be in contention before Rickie this year.

Rickie finished one shot back in 2018 Masters and 2 back in a British open to finish 2nd in both.  How is that not threatening to win?  He was one putt or one bad swing by the leader away from winning.  Makes zero sense to say "He had no shot in those to win".

i wasn't talking about rickie.  i was answering your question above.  

 

rory was second at the 2022 masters.  he finished 3 shots back.  he never once had a chance to win the tournament.

you asked if someone can come in second without actually contending.  all i did was answer your question with an example that proves someone, in fact, can.  i'm not sure what you aren't understanding here.

And i disagree with you.  He absolutely could have won that tournament.  He absolutely felt like he was in contention when he holed that bunker shot or he would not have been that excited.  Leader makes one or two mistakes and Rory wins.  The fact that the leader did not make those mistakes does not take away from the fact that Rory was in contention to win the masters this year.

You see that is where you are wrong. Scottie could have pushed one into the trees on 11, then hooked one into the water, then flubbed the chip, then 3 putted for 7. Then Rory would have been tied and he could have won in a playoff. Anything is possible! lol

It is interesting that VLAD is harping on the 2018 Masters, which in reality was sort of the the start of his decline. I bet after he watched PReed put on that green jacket on over that obnoxious pink polo, he was beating himself up, with that image now permanently burned into his memory . "That could be me if I just had one less bad swing". So he went soul searching, starting tweaking the swing, trying to figure out how to eliminate that one bad swing that ultimately lead to losing to Preed of all people.

 

Since that, every single SG category except around the green has been on a constant decline, thus so has his world ranking. When your tee game, approach game, and putter all fall off, well it's no wonder he is in such a rut.

I am using the 2018 Masters as the example, because someone stated he was never in contention during that tournament even though he lost by one shot.

I am not arguing that Rickie's golf game is not in shambles.  Absolutely is.  Where did I say he was not struggling exactly?

I think RF is a serious talent and will contend again. Would love to see him get back in form soon, and I think he is too good not to.

Honestly I think the guys at my club take our Saturday morning matches more seriously then Rickie does qualifying for majors!
