In all fairness he has made the last 4 and 10 of 16 cuts for the season.

Great? No…of course not.  But sucks? Nope, not that either.

As the first alternate from what was probably the 4th strongest sectional, he may still have a decent chance to tee it up on merit.

Say what you will about Rickie but golf is more interesting when he’s playing in the majors.

That was how many years ago as now he is lucky to qualify for any Majors

No, he will be part of LIV golf within a couple weeks and the PGAT will be in his rear view mirror.

I just don't know how his current sponsors would react to it.

He’s a perfect candidate for this thing. Big name but a struggling golf game. That guaranteed money has to look pretty much impossible to turn down for him.

Someone to keep Ogletree company at the back of the leaderboard. Rickie can tell him what the PGA Tour is like since Andy will never get there.

And this is a very specific reason tour players deserve a guaranteed salary.  The pga STILL gains viewers via the brand and name rickie fowler has built.  He's 94th on the 2022 money list with $981,000.   He'd made them wayyyyy more than that this season.

There are multiple first and second alternates from each of the sectional qualifying sites. So while Fowler is the first alternate from his USGA qualifying site it doesn't mean he is the overall first alternate for the event. IIRC the USGA is very tight lipped about how it uses the alternates to complete the field if there is a W/D.

You strongly doubt that Rickie Fowler has no fan base?

I strongly doubt that he's bringing in the type of money that you suggest. He's not doing it through TV ratings, that is for damn sure. The only one who draws a strong rating even when he plays poorly is Tiger. I doubt Fowler is the main draw in ticket sales at this point either. Having said that...

It's worth pointing out that Fowler likely is being paid plenty of money by corporate sponsors of the Tour. Would he have that money without the Tour? I don't think so. They gave him the platform and then probably hooked him up with a lot of the sponsors behind the scenes.

This is where I think Mickelson is off the rails with some of his logic. Dude has made $800 million of endorsements but that's not good enough. I find that to be insane considering golf's lack of popularity compared to other sports. He has been extremely well-compensated compared to other stars in the other sports. Good for him that he was able to snooker the Saudi government into shelling out way too much money for him at age 51. Good for Fowler if he's in the process of doing something similar given the rubbish state of his game.

If you follow European Soccer, you may recall "Oscar" who played for Chelsea and the Brazil International Team...he was really good.

Took a paycheck from the Chinese league (something crazy like $25mm a year guaranteed for 4 years)...he basically said they made him "an offer he couldn't refuse".

Hasn't appeared since for Brazil, and has disappeared from the public eye/conversation...but I assume his bank account is hefty.

Not everyone cares about their legacy or source of funds...they just want to enjoy a nice, easy life.

God, if he can't with all the Liv defections they've had, his opportunity is better than ever, so COME ON RICKIE!!

£400,000/week x4yrs. I do think he will be back in Europe, unfortunately 30+ and his prime years were spent at SIPG. Great player at Chelsea.
