It is jarring, every time, to see his lofts. I know it is ultimately just about delivered loft rather than stated loft but, still, a 10* 3 Wood (1.5 wood?) is wild.

Not to mention his 2 wedges: 47 sand and 53 lob (!)

It's not my bag and beauty is in the eye of the beholder but those wedges looks terrible to me, absolutely terrible. Like they should be something that I would use when I was doing the gardening not golfing.

I will never believe his “I bend the lofts down to control spin” stance on his ridiculously strong lofted irons. It makes zero sense when all shafts are identical.

In theory, a 21* 5 iron produces the same launch/spin/distance/etc as a 21* 4 iron would when the shafts have the exact same length & flex characteristics (as he claims). Bounce being the only sensical variable.

It all makes zero sense.  😂

I see where your coming from, for a normal player.

Bryson openly claims all equipment decisions are backed by science. Which is simply math/physics and is absolute.  Zero bias.

I think "in theory" is the key phrase here. It's quite clear that his irons fit within pretty specific distance windows if you watch him play. Thus it seems the actual practice disproves the theory. When you have someone swinging that hard, with that upright of a swing, and using single length irons, not much of anything is going to make a lot of sense. It comes down to trial and error and a lot of time on trackman.

I can't help but shake my head when I see Bryson's bag. Both crazy all the mass differences between a typical tour player and all the small nuanced changes he has to fit his game.

Not a big fan, but hard to argue golf is exciting when he is playing.

I do love the MIM Tour irons i must say... They were better in the copper finish.

I just wonder why he and Cobra insist that his set starts with a "4 Iron" that has a measly 18 degrees of loft. To me that kind of implies that there would be a matching 1, 2, and 3 iron that are missing. What would the lofts on those have to be? 9*, 12*, 15*?

Cobra does make a 9 degree 1 iron for Berkshire.

I think the first wedge with all the lead tape on it is higher lofted, at least from the look.  I thought I had read he uses something in that 58* range.

Is that a 66.5 lie angle on the utility? That's more upright than my wedges which are already 2* up and over-length.

You'd think Cobra would make him a bag made for single length irons, so they're not all banging into each other so much.  Maybe a stepped, false floor on the bag to make it  happen?

Darn good synopsis if you ask me and a darn good idea too.

Since I perceive you have a sharp eye answer this----- Do all of those LA Shafts in those putters have a larger OD shaft diameter? Or is is my old eyes perceiving that? They look like a much larger diameter to me

They way his stance is I think they have to be super upright.

He sees these as pieces of equipment, or tools, and not clubs. Aesthetics are a lesser issue. I played against a Cobra one length owner two weeks ago. He was unsure if they were better or not. His wedges were standard Vokeys. We pondered the idea that if DCB left Cobra would they still stick with one length clubs?

I think there should be tiers built into his staff bag so that the irons and wedges don't all just clank together.

But maybe that's part of the marketing... to make the one-length stand out more.

I don't think Cobra insists anything. He tells the fitter what numbers he wants to see and then they work to get to those numbers. So, if he says he wants a 4 iron to go x distance with y gapping, they'll keep decreasing the loft until they get to that distance and gapping as long as the launch angle, peak height, and spin stay within parameters. Again, don't forget his long irons are shorter than standard, so some degree of strong loft is needed to offset the length issue.

At the end of the day, neither the fitter or Bryson are going to care about the number printed on the bottom of the head or the actual loft of the club, they simply want the numbers to be optimized.
