I rarely ever hit my last few balls.  If it's a warm up session once I'm warm up I'll hit a few of the club that I'll be using on the first tee and then call it.  If it's practice, I like to end on a positive note so when I get down to the last few once I feel like I have that I call it a day.  If it means I leave 5 or 6 balls behind, so be it.

Exactly.

For a warm up session, once I get down to about 10 balls or so I will pull the club I'm hitting on #1 tee and try to visualize the shot. Once I hit that shot well I am done. Doesn't matter how many balls are left.

Then the last few balls I will just work on short pitches to about a 30-40 yard target focusing on good contact and distance control.

As a range rat I love you guys!  LOL I never leave a ball un-hit unless I am due on the tee and you guys left a few too many out there!

You are on the range and your second to last shot is beautiful.  You look down at that last ball and just know that you are going to follow it up with another terrific shot.  You take your stance, swing, then hit it 2 miles fat and you have to end there because you are out of balls.

In that situation, I always and I mean always quit after the great shot.  I either leave the remaining ball or two, or I just chip them.

You show up at the course to hit some balls before your round.  Range time is terrific and you're  hitting the ball nicely, then you step to the first tee and proceed to have one of the worst ball striking days.    Pretty discouraging and worse when you can't fix what is going wrong either.

It happens.

But what is great about golf is sometimes it goes the other way. I played Pinehurst #7 with a group of guys about 10 years ago, had a big dinner the night before, a few glasses of wine, and a somewhat early tee time the next day, this round for some reason sticks in my mind to this day.  On the range I couldn't hit the ball at all, driver going everywhere, fat and thin irons, I felt a mess, was almost scared to go play I was hitting it so bad, wasn't hung over, just didn't seem to feel right.

I went out and shot 71 from the back tees playing the course sight unseen and hit the ball beautiful all day, I just didn't understand it, was probably the best round of the year.

There's a way to fix that: When you get to your last 5 balls, and you flush one, just end it right there. Leave the remaining balls (if any) for the next guy. Leaving a couple of balls on the table isn't going to hurt anything.

This is exactly what I do.  However if I'm having a bad day and don't quite get a hold of any of the last 5 I'll grab balls from the bag and send those until I end on a good note.  Any ball I find that's not worth playing goes into my "range ball pocket".

You hit a beautiful drive, have 90 yards left, hit the second shot fat and only goes 30 yards. I pulled that beauty twice this week.

I believe one of the rules of golf is after a "perfect" drive the next shot must be a fat or a thin.  The golf gods know!

Two weekends ago we were 10 minutes from our tee time. We hadn't pulled up to the tee, but we were sitting near the putting green which was right behind it. I'm starting to gather up the troops to go when the guy in the pro shop comes out and tells us to hold up. He then waves two guys through who were literally scrambling to throw their clubs on a cart after running in from the parking lot. They were about a minute or two late for their tee time.

But it gets better. They screw around for another 5 minutes getting gloves on, stretching, practice swings, etc. They finally tee off, and then a third guy comes running up with his bag. He spends another 5 minutes screwing around before he tees off. We're all rolling our eyes and hoping this isn't going to be a bad sign for the day. Luckily after a hole or two they got moving and we didn't have to wait on them much.

This is so true.  The other day I piped a drive down the middle on a par 5.  I was 220 out and the group in front was still on the green.  I patiently waited for them to clear and then promptly topped my 4 iron, sending it rolling 100 yards down the fairway!

I had a new one the other day. My 2-some had a 5-some in front of us and a young couple just hanging out behind us, so we *certainly* weren't the guilty party holding anyone up that day.

#7 tee box we're finally free to hit and we see the marshall driving our way up the cart path, so we wait. He finally gets close, waves and yells at us to hit. My buddy just yells "Dude we've been waiting for you to get out of our way!"

Worst is when you hit everything great on the range, play lights out for the first three holes, then...

On the 4th tee box your stomach starts gurgling from that cheap take-out you had for dinner last night.

Do you fight it?  Try to convince yourself you can hold out until the turn?  Or just bail for a few holes and drive off in search of the "nearest point of relief"?

Walked up to the range Saturday and started hitting a few warmup wedges....then I notice the sun is right behind me and my shadow is ... right there. Hit some terrible irons and then just had to walk away, can't do it.

You get to the course 20 min early, ready to have a nice round with friends, you pop the hatch and the clubs aren't in there.  Happened today.  I left my clubs in the garage and I live 45 minutes away.  Had to bag the round, I'm still upset.

This was an invite to a nice course, I'm a member at a nearby course so I took my clubs home the day before and practiced a bit in the garage the evening before.  Never loaded up the clubs.

I think this, in part, is why my clubs never leave my trunk.  When I bring my shoes into the house for polishing or I swap out a club I always leave it in the path of the opening arc of the front door... so I can't forget it the next morning.

Similar situation - when you tee off in fine shape only to catch a logjam on the next hole and end up slogging through 18 of the slowest round ever.  And compounding it is watching the group in front of you lining up 1 foot putts.

Better than this past saturday, where we teed off right on time, get to the 2nd hole and there were three groups in front of us on the hole (par 3!!).

You have a par 5 and hit a really good drive like 300 yards in the middle of the fairway. With just a smooth FW left to the green you have to wait for the green to clear but then top it 60-80 yards 🤦‍♂️. Now just 7 or 8 iron in you don't quite flush it, leave it short right and now you're scrambling - need an up and down for par when you were thinking potential Eagle, or at least 2 putt birdie a few minutes earlier
