You're striking it the best you ever have and think you've turned the corner.  You've got your swing and you can start playing Golf rather than Golf Swing.  Your body and clubs have become a well oiled machine.

Next week, you look like you just started golf a few weeks ago and literally can't even swing the club any more.  You spend the entire round unable to get comfortable over the ball and just do your best punch it down the fairway 100 yards at a time.

You sign in at the clubhouse at 1:00 for your 1:15 tee time ... and there are 4 groups stacked up at the first tee.

+5 hour round.  Those are actually very common here during the weekends.  Welcome to LA.

Been there done that.  Yesterday was an awful day for me off the tee.  Ended up shooting 82 with a lost ball and one in the water hazard.  All I remember is making par on the first and birdie on 18.  The rest was a blur.

You are on the range and your second to last shot is beautiful.  You look down at that last ball and just know that you are going to follow it up with another terrific shot.  You take your stance, swing, then hit it 2 miles fat and you have to end there because you are out of balls.

I did this yesterday and the guy next to me heard me swear under my breath and was kind enough to toss me a ball and say “can’t let you leave like that!” 😂

There's a way to fix that: When you get to your last 5 balls, and you flush one, just end it right there. Leave the remaining balls (if any) for the next guy. Leaving a couple of balls on the table isn't going to hurt anything.

This. I've left a ball. A few balls.  A quarter of a bucket. When things are going well and I've accomplished everything I set out to do in the practice session, I won't hestiate to walk away and leave some bonus balls for someone else.

Or you can grab a club and fish some balls out from underneath the machine and try again.😉

It’s been super hot here. Me and my 14 year old son went to the range anyway. We only hit 30 balls each alternating shots because his hands sweat a lot. His last shot that day was a straight missile with driver. He then says I’m good. I step up and proceed to hit a perfectly straight missile at our target then proceed to hit that identical shot again. We had half a bucket left and called it a day after those. We’re going back Friday when it cools down to 94 and we’ll try to pick up where we left off then practice some putting if it’s not brutally sunny. Lots of half empty buckets abandoned on the range tee box. We should have saved the 5 bucks and hit for free. It’s the range girl’s fault because she’s smokin.

The balls you left could have been all the bad shots you didn't get to. I'm a pack a day smoker and when someone bums one off me and then says they owe me one I'll tell them don't worry about it, the one I gave you could've been the one that killed me. 😉

And that's why I have a few garbage balls in my bag to 'donate' to the range need be.

I rarely ever hit my last few balls.  If it's a warm up session once I'm warm up I'll hit a few of the club that I'll be using on the first tee and then call it.  If it's practice, I like to end on a positive note so when I get down to the last few once I feel like I have that I call it a day.  If it means I leave 5 or 6 balls behind, so be it.

  To piggyback off of this:

You've been hitting it great.  Your driver is working and you are hitting it on the screws every drive and you feel great about where that part of your game is at.   It's a nice morning.  You get to the course early, your warm ups are great.  You get to the first tee.  A few other groups are kind of milling around before their tee times.  You do your preshot routine, confidently step up to the ball.  Everyone goes silent.....

And you shank it into the woods.

Exactly.

For a warm up session, once I get down to about 10 balls or so I will pull the club I'm hitting on #1 tee and try to visualize the shot. Once I hit that shot well I am done. Doesn't matter how many balls are left.

Then the last few balls I will just work on short pitches to about a 30-40 yard target focusing on good contact and distance control.
