I think them going 72 holes and losing the shotgun is inevitable.  They probably told him this , as info to sweeten the deal , and it was no real concession  because they’ll have to do it to gain points  anyway.

Out of curiosity, what part of the shotgun start do you dislike?

This is spot one. The minute LIV started taking big name players, PGA scrambled and pulled out massive amounts of money out of thin air raising all the prize money by insane amounts for 2023. Without Phil none of that would have happened. PGA players should be thanking the LIV guys for everything. Rory whinelroy will go down as the biggest loser, and I love seeing it.

Live look at Rory while he contemplates @Custom calling him a loser...

It makes the final holes of a tournament less compelling.

Personally, I think there’s a basic unfairness to starting on different holes. Sure, everyone has to play every hole, but on a Sunday, would you rather start on the number one hdcp hole that has water everywhere and a tight fairway or the 18th handicap with the open fairway? It presents the course, not as the challenge was designed, but for the same reason that your local scramble does it, just getting everyone going at the same time.

During an interview I watched this morning they asked Rahm about the 54 holes, shotgun start and loud music aspect. Saying they felt it was kinda “corny”. Jon said at first his stance was skepticism towards those aspects as well. But over time the more he looked at it the more he understood (💰) it. Lol 😂 At least the entertainment value of all this is gold.

I foresee this going the way of old.  Good players who don’t like the circus remaining amateurs , amateur competition growing more meaning , and the status of a professional going back to that of a traveling carnival barker. Or side show.

Right. But those of us who work , don’t have time to play except weekends.  So pro golf used to fill the void during the week.

The big question is will it make a difference, how many more eyeballs will LIV get.

LIV golf is NOT. Never was, and never will be. It doesn't exist. It's simply a facade. A carefully crafted chess move.

PIF (for lack of a better word) not only needs the PGAT to exist, but to be better and stronger than it's ever been.

The move was never to compete, but to become entrenched. Heavily invested to the point where a divorce would cause a catastrophic demise of the PGAT.

John Rham was simply a chess move due to negotiations regarding the merger not going well. This will now force negotiations to be finalized and give PIF what they always wanted in the first place. Complete entrenchment.

John and the other DB's will all be back on tour shortly...as was always the plan. Paid handsomely for their service to the King. They opened the door.

Probably some truth to this, give or take.  Which is why I alluded to the money being talked about is b.s.  Rahm will never see $600M from LIV, not even close.  No doubt he's getting paid a lot more than a typical year on PGAT, but these inflated numbers being thrown around are nonsense.

Take for example, team economics.

Headlines: Season ending winning LIV team $14 million prize

Reality: 60% of that goes to team operations budget which by the way, LIV owns 75% of every team.  That $14M is down to

7.7M just like that.

So Rahm getting $500M+?  Show me the wire transfer receipt.

LOL!......nothing is burning down.  PGAT is just doing a little purging. With LIV's recent acquisition their just putting lipstick on a pig or perfume on a carcass. I will not be tuning in because of Rahn.

The Tour will be fine, they need a good business lawyer though to figure out how to stop the poaching. Something short of a non-compete....

`~Most fans don't want to watch that kind of golf.......

Realize what you’re up against when they wanted some type of partnership before LIV came to fruition.  When someone can buy your tour 100 times over, you may want to listen to what they are saying and make better decisions..  Ego got in the way.

What "better decisions" do you believe could have been made?

My take is that he did the right thing from the start, and then the reality of white collar criminal lawyers bleeding the PGA Tour's cash reserves forced him to negotiate with the Saudis. I don't know of any bad decisions made by Monahan, he can't control the financial injustice of the legal system.

Won't make a difference to me or anybody I know.....LIV players are considered liars and greedy,  the format  is amateurish and clownish, three rounds are not championship golf, more like a frat party and can't be taken seriously, more like WWE and totally unwatchable.......Now, the PGAT on the other hand.👀

Correct. Plus, at that time the tour would have lost its sponsors by just having a dialog with the alleged murderous Saudi regime....

I agree with your first sentence (and like the word purging LOL).

I disagree with your second sentence comment "stop the poaching".  In other words I believe it's fine to let more player (s) take Saudi money and leave the PGA Tour. There are hundreds of players ready and willing and able to play the PGA Tour.

Except that's already been proven not to be the case. But keep pumping out your Shark approved propaganda and talking points.
