Who uses a 7 hybrid, and why?

I've gone 6h 30* - thinking about that 7h 34* all the time

Still think I get more stopping power from a well struck iron, it's really close IMO.....but I can't beat the launch/descent angles of the hybrid

Not sure I could play one. I already hit my 21° hybrid 120ft in the air. Would go straight up lmao.

If you ever see one buy it. It is the Nike Sumo2 Square Hybrid 34 degrees. People that have them including me rave about the club. You can find them on EBay but they’re not cheap unless you get lucky. Great for tight lies in Florida. It flies high like a lob wedge but really goes. One bounce and it checks right up. A real pin seeker.

I think it depends on the golfer as far as utility.
Some of the SGI sets, e.g., Cleveland Halo, are essentially hybrids marketed as irons. My wife had them and they worked well for her.

I recently experimented with a 6 hybrid (28 degrees loft) for two specific par 3 holes at my course with good and consistent results.  Which begs the question, is a 7 hybrid worthwhile?

I play a 6H.  I own a 7H but don't bag it yet.  The decision point for you is the same as it was with your 6.   In my case I probably should already be bagging the 7H but I haven't accepted it yet.  Our greens are about to get softer and maybe a little slower for the summer, so I can probably put it off until winter.

I’ve got 5h-7h Ping g425s. Never played the 7h and only used the 6h for a bit. As I was getting back into the game, I was having trouble with the strong lofted irons and needed some temporary solutions until I was fit and able to go from there. Now I bag up to 5i, but I still prefer 5h and that plays almost half the time. 7h was a real consideration and I found one very affordable so I grabbed it JIC.

As I was confirming I still had the 7h laying around writing this post, I realize my 6h is not where it should be. Gotta find it. Love hybrids.

wow 9 handicap, I may need to rethink my bag strategy.

Play what works!
When I was a kid I’d play with these old guys whenever one of their regular foursome couldn’t make it.  They liked me because I worked on the range and I’d give them the best balls. We hand picked the range in those days.  Anyway, they all had Browning 440 irons.  It was the old man iron of the day and kind of like today’s hybrid style irons.
Those guys could break 80 if their putters were hot but they rarely shot anything over 82-83.  Hustlers.

I took the 3 wood out of my bag and replaced it with a 5/7 wood. 3 wood was only good off the tee and even at that, I hardly lose any distance with the 5/7 and I can hit it off the ground on par fives. Now I'm just trying to get the right gap with my 4 and 5 hybrids. Wanted a 5 hybrid for days I don't feel confident in the 5 iron.

Played to a 7.6 last year per The GRINT. W\S Launch Pads 4-SW hybrid irons. Why, they’re stupid easy to hit. Have Px 5.5 steel in them. I rotate these and my 80s FG17s!

This ^ They're stupid easy to hit. I have a friend who only plays a few times a year at most. As you'd expect he is not a good ball striker, at all. He was rocking a set of old school Ping I3s and hitting them very poorly. I bought him a set of Adams OS irons with graphite shafts - they are essentially just all hybrids - and he hits them much better

Literally every day I say to myself "why aren't you playing a hybrid down to your 8i?"  Every day I don't have an answer and I repeat the mental anguish.

Have a 7 hybrid I put in when I start seeing pulls creep back into my 7 iron. It’s at 30 degrees. My 7 iron is at 27. Use 3-7 hybrids. Alternate the 3H with a 5W.

Alright this post has motivated me to experiment with 7 and 8 hybrid.  Your anguish has been my catalyst haha  thank you

Heck yes a 7 hybrid is worthwhile. I don’t have the club head speed I used to (see signature for a hint why), and I’d play hybrids through 9i if I could.

The “hook prone” complaints you will see about hybrids is the man behind the hybrid, not the club, IMO.

I can hit shots with my 6h and 7h that make me giggle. 🙂 They were a brilliant addition to my bag, and I should have at least gone to 5h before I got injured.

I play 4,5,6 and 7 hybrids.  Very easy to hit from nearly any lie.  Great off the tee.  Hybrids are Cobra Fly Z XL, 22* to 31*.   I play these hybrids at the same length as the corresponding iron.   I'll never go back to regular irons after playing the hybrids.

One of my "in play" iron sets is 8 through SW of Cobra T Rail hybrid irons (my other set is 8 through LW PXG 0211dc).   I love them!!   The sand wedge is a blast to hit from the sand as well as the short sided flop shot.  Yes, the hybrid SW can be set wide open.  You don't even know the huge sole is there.  Even out of hard pack sand it works flawlessly.

9 handicap.  Recent scores include a few 74s and some 1 under par 35s for 9 holes.  Yes, these clubs work!

I’ve got a whole set of T Rails myself, 4-SW. the 4 and SW should be here any day hopefully. Recoil 95 f3 in the 5-SW, KBS PGI in the 4.

Today I forgot the reason the 6 and 7 hybrids are in my bag. Took them out and played the irons instead. Big mistake. They are now back in the bag. So easy to hit .
