Custom putter makers - whos left?

Recommended Posts

After reading a bunch of threads here where the custom putter makers arent answering messages or etc - is anyone still in business with good communication and timeframes?

Looking to get a basic custom stamped answer style head made under $500.

Goodwood at that price.

Many others have raised prices for various reasons.

I cant speak on Goodwood as I've never had any dealings with Him but I dont know that there is a Maker out there putting a custom out for under 500.. Lajosi is the cheapest (because of exchange rate) that I personally know of and his start around $600

I'm  surprised to see Goodwood's prices where they are. Jump on it if it's what you're looking for, @third-times-a-charm. I've gotten quotes from other custom markers for a simple raw head, unfinished with no shaft, for over $500.

Cost have gone up everywhere. Materials, consumables, labor, machines.  It’s a tough business to be in

These prices are in Canadian dollars and Serge's work is top notch. He offers Anser style heads at well under 500 USD in the "stock" model and has more customizable ones for more.

He's a great dude and he'll respond to you---let me know if you reach out to him as he is a friend---but no pressure or anything it's just a suggestion

I never owned a Deschamps, but I know someone who did and Serge reportedly makes some really nice stuff. He reportedly always nails his required specs. I only mention this because the person I know that owned a few Deschamps putters said they were all perfectly to spec when checked on a loft/lie machine, while many of his other customs were not to spec.

I'll toss my Goodwood recommendation in there.  Super reasonable prices and David is great to work with, for a one man operation he has excellent customer service.

Another vote for Goodwood. Super fast turnaround time too. A month from invoice to when the putter showed up on my doorstep. Right around $500 and he stamped it up how I asked. Putter rolls very consistent which isn’t something I can say about putters I’ve had from other guys. David is also super responsive and communicative.

Update...

Compass - Company issues

Logan Olson - Company issues

Mack Made - Over $500

Lajosi - Over $500

Goodwood - Would not do logos only (I dont want to see Goodwood anywhere, I'm weird I guess)

Hudson - Over $500

Kingston Putters - Probably the best out of any of the companies so far. Owner is awesome and responds quickly. New customs are over $500 but he did have some blems he was willing to work with me on under $500 but I havent finalized a design yet.

So looks like I may be going with Kingston or restoring another Scotty/Toulon for under $400-500

Spot on assessment here. I went with Lajosi for the craftsmanship and was pleasantly surprised by the final cost in US$ after calculating the exchange rate.

You can check out TruBlu. He makes nice putter for dirt cheap.

Secondly...you can speak with Kevin Burns. They make some awesome clean putters starting at $600.

I also really like goodwoods stuff, but I agree, I don't love his huge stamping of the GOODWOOD generally. His company...his rules.  I do think his work is really good quality.

He also designed the recent Wilson putters so that's the cheapest option I guess.

I follow Clay on instagram. Fantastic machinist and ideas, but terrible styling and lasering/stamping. Not for me but I do appreciate what he does.

The Wilson putters are very very nice. Too bad they say Wilson on them lol I might buy one down the road to refinish or something because the shaping is so nice along with the removable weights.

I couldn't agree more...to both really. The clay long stuff could be so much nicer if he worked on his style. It just doesn't do it for me.

Mills and Mann are my two favorites by far.  Mills is still in that 6-700 range that most aren't.

I agree. I’ve bought and sold tons of putters (you know, because I’m a degenerate and that’s what I do) and Mann and Mills are hands-down the two best bang for the buck in the $600 range.

Lamont is closer to $750 now I think. His carbons start at $649. Other than that.... Not many left in the 6s.
