I get it, but they've got their analysis and reasons. It's like the country club I recently played at which charged $4.17 for every product their beverage cart sold. Just amazing, crackers, snickers, soda, beer...All $4.17!

Btw, I like their Tour and Tour X offerings. IMO, best Callaway balls in a very long time.

They've spent more time thinking about it than I have, that's for sure.

Have you compared the Tour/X to Pro v1/x by chance? Tell me more about your impressions of em and what you've been playing before if you don't mind.  I did get some Tour X with Callaway points but haven't spent time with them yet here in the snow.

My biggest takeaway on these balls is into the wind, I play in Texas which gets windy, both of the balls slice right through it and hold their lines very well.  The aerodynamics on these balls is really good IMO. I find the X, a tad clickier and spins slightly more over the Pro V1x. I would actually prefer to play the Tour X over Pro V1x. But in reality, both the Callaway and Titleist offerings are very close in performance.

Good info, thanks. It gets windy on the eastern slope of the mountains here in Colorado also so that's important to me.  I will give the Tour X a solid go, and honestly I need to just pick one ball and play it.

All golf balls will crack being hit into a screen. It’s not a matter of if, only a matter of when.

Played CTX yesterday in very blustery conditions and it performed extremely well.  Unfortunately I lost one a little right and after a bad bounce trickled into the lake 😞  That was the last CTX in my bag, so I reached for a new TP5X, which I've been impressed with, and it was not near as good in real wind.  I watched it balloon and not hold its lines.  Some of that is due to strike, but some of it is the aero package.  Easy to see back to back.  I'm certain now CTX will most likely be my gamer.  Need to try TP5, but for shitz n giggles I'd game TP5X no problem.

Have you done anymore head to head testing with the CTX and the ‘24 BX?

Now that I've knocked TP5X out from the running.  BX will be next in the head to head

Looking forward to reading about it! Honestly, I’m in a great spot because the ‘22 BX is so good for my game that any improvement over it will just be gravy.

I mean, I think that's pretty clear. However, while I have cracked other balls indoors, I've never had one crack so quickly. I have a left dash I've been using all through league and practice this year that is still going strong. Used it to test against this ball head to head as well. Had this ball for two weeks and it's kaput. Hopefully it's a fluke, but durability issues wouldn't be a surprise either. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think its more of a case of callaway trying to address some of their customer service issues.   For example, I had pre-ordered a AIS TD but it still hadn't shipped well after they were in stores.   I cancelled and picked up one locally.   I then heard that callaway was giving a dozen of the new chrome tours to those who still had pre-orders that hadn't shipped.   Was too late for me, but they emailed me a survey and I mentioned that I probably would have held my pre-order if offered the same, but the rep didn't offer it.     Next day they shipped me a dozen chrome tours free of charge.

I put 3 of those free chrome tours in play in the sim now and all have well over 300 swings on them and just had to retire one after some extended 60 degree wedge practice.  even that wasn't terrible but I'm sensitive to scuffed balls messing up the screen.

I'm not discounting your experience with the CT but I'm not surprised at all given the usage mentioned.

Right. I know that. We all do. I guess I should have emphasized that I've never had a ball crack that quickly. I'm in the low 120s when speed training and cruise 118-119, and it's usually taken me some time when using the same ball indoors to crack one if it does. I have a Pro V1 RCT from last year that's still going strong. Prob just a fluke

I've played the left- for the past 3+ years. The Chrome Tour is the first ball I've found that was noticeably better for me. I've loaded up for the season.

Regular or X in the tour? Can you be more specific about what is better than the left dash?

As far as your left dash being so durable, can't speak to that specific ball but I use plenty of premium balls in my sim including prov1, prov1x, avx (meh..ok.. premium-ish), and others and I have had cracks or other failures in less time than you might expect (less than 100 swings).    I put 3 of those free chrome tours in play in the sim now and all have well over 300 swings on them and just had to retire one after some extended 60 degree wedge practice.  even that wasn't terrible but I'm sensitive to scuffed balls messing up the screen.

Totally. I get it. It's all such as small sample size and also recency bias I'm sure. I dabbled with BX some years ago and TP5X and they wouldn't last half a round without some cover issues even though I loved the feel and flight (especially the BX). I'm not a brand loyalist at all but I've only cracked one left dash and they (Titleist) don't seem to wear as quickly. I play is Wisconsin so our three seasons are very wet and plug, semi dry and then two or three weeks of bake. I love how the Tours feel and I'm going to play them tomorrow vs left dash. We're supposed to have 10 mph constant so looking to forward to see how the Chrome Tours do, especially with the irons on approach.

Chrome Tour. Liked the X but not nearly as much. For me, it plays like the left - with a better sound/feel and better green sides spin.

edit...adding more now that I have a some time.

The left- has been a very good ball for me. I love it and I'm glad I still have a few dozen boxes left. It seems that the CT is the Left- with a really cool acoustic. It feels explosive and looks like it has another gear when it peaks. In reality, it's not really going any further and I'm even not sure if it's visual or a feel thing. I enjoy hitting it. Way differnt from last years LS, which liked a lot. I typically like the firm feel of the LD and don't usually like soft.

It's wet and cool here still but I have no doubt the CT will be better for me when it firms up. Spin difference around the green is noticeable. But with my irons they're very similar. That's win for me.

I don't feel like I'm giving up any distance between the two. About the same here. Same window.

For me, this preforms like the LD with some added benefits.

My only concern is durability. I have seen some scuffs/cuts in situations where I didn't think I hit anything. I may have. A lot of this testing was in cold or cooler temps. I saw this with the CT X as well.

I would agree with you @scottaz, several times I hit wedges into greens and had significantly more notable cover marking than with the new Bridgestone and ProV1. Driver into fairway, 115 yard wedge, scuff. I've got five balls out of the dozen CTX I bought that are already in the shag bag with scarring from the normal course of play, no trees/paths/sand/etc.

And yes, the covers of modern golf balls are very prone to scuffing due to how soft they are, but it's noticeable how much more quickly it happens with the Callaway. All that said, I really dig the new TruTrack.

Played 9 yesterday and 18 today. The CT seems to check up better for me than the LD, especially on the winter greens here in Wisconsin. Distance is similar off the tee and irons for me at least, though the CT seems like it's easier to flight for some reason. It was blowing 15+ this morning and the CT didn't seem to get moved around too much by the wind, especially on approach shots with the wind, which can sometimes lead to a lower apex.

Oddly enough, I played three balls from three different sleeves. The ball from the 9 yesterday went right to practice ball bag. Didn't hit any paths, trees, sand etc, but the cover looked rough. I spent 20 min or so chipping to test the CT and the LD prior to the round.

Finished today's round with both balls and they each had only a small mark from a wedge. This was with two sand shots as well.

I've tested both, and off driver and mid to long irons I don't see much, but with short irons/approach shots and around the greens, CTX flies a little lower for me.  Spin dictates this.
