Not driver related, but definitely Paradym AI Smoke related.  But, does anyone know if Callaway has a standard tipping practice for their fairways?  I have to order my triple D 7w through Dicks because I have some gift cards.  Going out on a limb for an AD IZ.  I only tried it in a driver years ago and thought it was way softer than I would like.  I want to have it tip trimmed 1.5" but don't know what Callaway's default is.  I can request 1" hard but not sure if that is in addition to default or just 1" total.

.5" 3w  - 1" 5w - 1" 7w is what i've gotten with Callaway in the past

I have one of these coming to compare up against the Max I already have.   It's been the best of all the drivers I've tried this year, but am looking forward to seeing if the TD works for my moderate speed or if it's an absolute fail.

Yesterday I went for a fitting, ideally to end up with a G430 Max 10K replacing my Callaway Rogue Sub Zero to try become more accurate and hit more fairways.

My swing speed was generally around 114-115mph with bad swings a bit lower and intentional power swings just above 117.

Hit 5 shots with my Rogue SZ, 4 were good on the fairway with an average of about 285, the longest was 302. The last was my miss which is a high slice which ended up going about 240, the fitter explained that on that quit swing I end up opening the face and hitting it off the heel.

To cut to the chase the 10K was a bad fit with poor distance, average was about 265 with the longest 286.

Tried a load of drivers and one of those was the Triple Diamond. Was fantastic, I could believe how forgiving it was. Known bad strikes still ended up on the fairway with distance matching my Rogue SZ. Good strikes were between 295 to 305 with my biggest being 322 at 117.5mph swingspeed.

On my bad quit swing there was still the high slice, admittedly not as bad but still there. As I said I was surprised at the forgiveness, not a miracle cure but easier to hit straighter than the Rogue SZ.

In my driver it is set at 8° turned down from 9° therefore opening the face. The fitter had me in that setting and also just in the standard 9° which I seemed to hit better.

One thing I was wondering is if I bought the 8° and turned it up to 9° wouldnt that close the face a little and give me a straighter flight? Has anyone done this and seen any success? Frustratingly I can't try this as he doesn't have an 8° head. I'm going back on Wednesday but was wondering if anyone had any advice.

I must say that Ian and Mike was trying a bit to hard to sell the new stuff over his TSR3. Was there like 1 yard carry distance (287/288) difference. Thats like 0,3% increase in carry distance😁

The Smoke TD distanced itself from the others in how much tighter the dispersion circle and standard deviations (ie consistency/predictability) were than the other options.

Whether he bags the TD or the Qi10LS, their stay in his bag will likely only last until the TSR replacement drops later this year. He likes what he likes, and it's understandable.

First off, the most incredible delivery time i have EVER seen.

I ordered a Triple Diamond With AutoFlex on Wednesday around 2 PM.  It was in my hands Friday by noon!!

For those not scoring at home thats less than 48 hours in hand!   How the hell!

Anyway one range session with this combo and i think i can say my Max D wull be goiing up for sale and i reallly liked it!!

I did take w few swings with the heavy weight back on the 10.5 but still saw too much spin.  So flipped them, and slowed my tempo a bit  (as AutoFlex demands)

From there i gained 3-4  swing speed and 6-9 mph ball speed.

After 20 or so shots with it. I went back to my Smoke Max with the GD VS and it just felt so heavy.  Ha

So i think i show il a case with a slower or moderate to be kind swing speed, can actually play and benefit from a low spinning head.

Looking forward to getting on course with it next week.

Question for the experts here.  My TD driver has an FA on the slot side of the bottom where you tighten the hosel screw.  It also has C9 in the weight wells when I remove them.  The hot melt port was open as well.  Has anyone seen this before?

It doesn't have a serial number at all, so wasn't certain it was tour issue.  I also had access to a 10.5 TD S in lefty which I didn't think they made at all (yet)

OMG, the AI Smoke TD "S" is the holy grail for Cally drivers this year, IMO, especially guys that want a super low spin fade biased head.  Sammy Valimacki and another tour pro are the only two on Cally staff as far as I know that have those in their bag and I'm super jealous.  Are you a teaching pro or play on a tour by chance?

Great read, thanks for posting this. I think a lot of us are guilty of equating higher loft heads with lower swing speed and potentially lose out on a great fit in the process.

Makes me appreciate companies like PXG that are making fittings more accessible with their $25 deal for the past few generations.  As new equipment prices continue to climb I feel like more folks are pushed towards the buy and try route even when the value of fittings are clearly shown

I’ve got a TD on the way, but man am I tempted to try that Max D based on the article from JW. I’ve got about a 3 degree out to in path, 4 up AOA and swing about 120 on average. The idea of a forgiving head that can keep the spin down(ish) and let me swing my swing that usually produces a pull cut that goes dead straight sounds LOVELY 😬

You should definitely demo it with the right shaft and lofting down. Great head.
