Anyone else impressed with the S159 Ping Wedge ?

Pretty surprised these aren’t being talked about more. Haven’t been a big fan of pings wedges since the glide 2.0 stealth, but these are really good. I struggle initially with the 54s and went to the 56w and bent it 1 strong and with the 60b these are a really good combo for me.

50S 56E 60T here, courses just opening now, so just been swinging in the garage.  The 50S, to me and my son both, seems really upright and small, even next to the 60, which seems for some reason less intimidating.  The 60T is replacing an old Jaws low bounce thing I love, can lay the Ping wide open and it feels great.  The 56E is an experiment, I used to be good out of the sand but have lost something the last few years, first impressions again good.

Well I loved the 50S, 54H & 58H so much I bought a 62T today and went to the short game area and played around with it. Ping really knocked it out of the park with these wedges. Best looking wedges ever in my opinion and they launch the ball amazing paired with the DGX100 TI’s. Height is always a struggle on lob shots for me even with an open face so the 62* should help a lot. My 4 iron and 5 iron are too close to each other to warrant playing both and my only gapping issues is from about 220-230 which my 7 wood carries 235 and 5 iron carries 215 so have to figure that out. Maybe bump the 5 iron a degree or two strong and live with 225 being a number I just have to play short or choke down a 7 wood on.

TT DG X100 Tour issue. Might throw a S400 TI, SPINNER TI or KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 if I need more height and feel.

I changed my order to the 56S and 60T after hearing the H is still 3 weeks out on back order.

Ah man i'd be sweating bullets hoping that T works out. It's a great grind tho. They don't look much different really.

What is your driver swing speed....rocco meduate says he likes a weaker shaft on his highest lofted wedge...interestingly.

112-115. I had a spare X100 and it works well in my other wedges so I threw it in to try in the 62. The combo gets me that sub 28* launch angle and crazy spin while hitting my numbers. Figured the shaft didn’t cost me anything and the stick shaft is too light for me personally.

Every round I play these they just get better.  The 54h is fantastic on the sub 80 yd shots for me.  I can not believe how easy these glide through the turf.  They feel almost impossible to mis hit.   Easily my favorite wedges yet.

Blow away how good they are! @PINGyou really knocked it out of the park with these! As a long time Vokey and TM MG players to me these are the best shaped wedges since Nike went out of business. The shape is literally perfect on all 4 of my S159’s never played a 4 wedge plus a set PW before but the 50/54/58 were so good and my gapping at the top end was cluttered so dropping the 4 iron was a no brainer for a 62*

Question - I play in the mornings when it is almost always wet, whether from rain overnight or morning dew. Would these help retain spin better than other wedges? Have T22 wedges now and I find myself hitting the ball too far a lot of the time with my SW in particular... Almost no spin from light rough, and I'm using a high quality tour ball.

2nd question - does the black color have the hydro pearl water repellent coating still?

3rd - my experience with Ping in the past is the head weights always run light. I had Glide 3.0 wedges which needed TONS of lead tape, which is annoying and a bit of an eye sore. Same story here?

Cannot help on the head weight, but in talking with Ping, the darker finish does not come with the hydro, and they said the difference in RPM’s would be around 300 in the wet conditions

I'm curious about who this wedge is marketed to.  The custom fitting and grind options are usually for better wedge players. But PING seems to be pushing this is a wedge for the masses.  But instead of taking the cavity backed forgiving wedge approach of Cleveland and Callaway they are pushing customization of grinds.

Is that accurate?

Anyone have a midnight version of the eye sole wedge?  Doesn’t look available at many places.

Dicks offers the midnight finish in the eye sole. I ordered a 54e,58e in midnight. I received the chrome finish from Ping. I kept them and I have no regrets in doing so.

I wonder if there is an issue getting the midnight finish in the eye sole?

I have not played the H, but the B grind is probably as good out of the bunker as anything I have tried, including the older ES grind.
