This thread makes me want to go to the course this afternoon wearing plaid cargo shorts with a white belt, un-tucked t-shirt, tour hat with some Oakleys and a staff bag packed with blade irons, a Cameron tour putter, and xx-stiff shafted woods...then shank EVERY shot.

Golf's not a team sport. As long as people aren't doing anything destructive to the course or REALLY bothering you, then just roll with it a bit. Let everyone enjoy it as they appropriately choose to. Golf needs it right now.

I will say, I do agree that if a place has a dress code, everyone needs to follow it or choose to go somewhere they don't have one.

Anyway, see my fellow "wannabe pros" in cargo shorts out on the course this afternoon (I hope I can find a pair of mine somewhere...)

i can't think of anything clothing related since if im doing nothing on a weekend, ill go ply as a single in basketball shorts. guilty.

i kind of find iron head covers annoying. makes me feel like the person im playing with has ocd.

Sorry guys, but I pop my collar when the sun is beating down on my neck during the summer. It's not a fashion statement for me, I just can't deal with the sun beating down on my neck for 18 (long a$ slow walking) holes. And, on a really wet day, I keep a towel tucked in my back belt loop (because my shirt's tucked in).......

My only pet peeve is when guys wear overly baggy pants like Tiger Woods. And I really don't understand how a guy dressing well and playing poorly can possibly be an annoyance.

Overly conservative selections in pro shops and stores. They'll have different brands but essentially the same styles: solid shirts in red, white and black, pants in black and khaki. They assume everyone just wants as bland as possible, which is simply not true.

Things that drive me crazy:

1 - When people aren't ready to play when it's their turn. Sure it happens here and there to all of us, but when you have a few guys on the tee box, and the other 3 are in the cart, and don't get out to get their club until the guy before them tee'd off and is walking off the box.

2. When people feel the need to pick up and take a ball that doesn't belong to them. I actually get a little anxiety when I hit a bad shot into another fairway, and I see people lurking around where my ball landed.

3. People that don't yell FORE appropriately. It doesn't help if we can't hear you. Speak up!!

4. People that "check to make sure it's their ball" when it's sitting down, and place it back into a fluffy lie. Wow what a difference that can make if you could fluff all your bad lies. Stop cheating, because it's definitely CHEATING!

5. People that take too many "serious" practice swings before every shot. 1 or 2 ok fine, but

6. People that are notorious for playing whatever ball they find AND (AND being the key word) always seeming to find their ball when they hit it in the woods. "Oh here it is...."

I just realized this was thread was more about golf style rather than golf in general...

7. Proshops that don't carry a single article of clothing that I'd even want to wear. I mean come on, I know many of the members might be older and more conservative, but you should still carry clothing by Nike, or Adidas, or Under Armour at a minimum.

8. Clothes that are too big. If you're a heavy set person, you can pull it off, but if you're a string bean and your clothes are draping off of you, buy a smaller size or a different cut.

9. Clothes that are too small! If you're a heavy set person, you don't look muscular, more like a sausage. If you are actually muscular, you don't need a compression fitted shirt to prove it. We can tell.

10. I guess white socks with black or brown shoes - just doesn't look right unless the socks are so low cut you can't really see them... even then, just go black to be safe.

Are you sure that you didn't leave anything out Grey? Good Lord you apparently let a lotbof things get to you. Try and let it go man.....maybe you can get some sleep because with all of these things bothering you there is no way you can rest.

It also sounds like you need to get some new playing partners if they are cheating all the time. That would bother me as well.

Funny to read this old thread and the comments. Definitely dated with the references to the older golf trends and styles that people seem to be so critical about. Ten years later people still seem to be so opinionated about white belts! 

 

The only golf style thing that bothers me is ill-fitting clothes--either too big and baggy or too small and tight. Wear what you want as long as it fits. Doesn't matter to me if you shoot in the 100s or 70s. Your money, spend it on whatever you want...

Agree 100%. Same with equipment. If a high capper wants to buy blades, that is their business.  If a scratch player plays SGI irons, their business as well.   What I find so funny about the post I commented on is the reference to showing off the pecs while ripping it down the fairway.

Guys who wear Titleist hat, have clubs, bag, head covers, and ball. Annoying. Really could apply to any brand though.

I just spent the last hour reading this whole thread and had a good chuckle. I'm amazed, and actually a little appalled, at how touchy some people can be about other peoples' fashion sense/choices. A few points and opinions of my own:

 

1. Thanks to @Anser3 for reviving this old thread!

 

2. My own golf style is fairly conservative. Most of my golf clothes come from Costco or Winners (Canada's answer to TJMaxx or Marshalls). Reading the older posts here reminded me of a few fashion gaffs I've committed in the past. That dark red mock-t and khaki chinos combo - WTF was I thinking ... ?? 😅

 

3. I'm not fussed in the least by what people wear on the course. Be clean, be neat and be pleasant, and we can be golf buddies for the round. If the course has a dress code, respect it.

 

4. There is one look that does bug me, only because I personally think it looks silly (on or off the golf course): Joggers - the kind that look like conventionally tailored trousers on top, tapering to elastic cuffs at the bottom. Yuck and other comments! That said, if I should ever get paired with someone wearing those, see Point 3 above. 

 

Life's too short to worry about what someone decides to wear for a round of golf! The game is hard enough as it is without having to stress over wardrobe!

You guys worry about the wrong things. How about:

 

1. Grumpy starters

2. No cart girl

3. Place for range balls located too far from the range

4. Municipal course conditions with country club prices

5. No cold water on the course in case I run out

6. Slow and rude service at the bar during the before, at the turn, or after play

7. Links courses

8. Tee times with 7 minute intervals. Needs to be at least 10.

9. No carts allowed in the parking lot

10. Conditions so rough you can literally lose a well hit ball in the middle of the fairway or 1ct cut.
