I played the eye2+ since 1990. I never bothered to try other irons, as my iron play was never a problem. In the meantime, I did buy a set of BeCu eye2+, but keep them in the garage, as I still liked my steel clubs. A few months ago, I bought a set of ISI nickels that finally displaced the eye2s. That is, until I tried the i20s. Just hit them yesterday and couldn't believe the ease with which I could hit 3 and 4 irons. I'll have to see if they stay in my bag.

Moral of my story - probably would have been better off not trying anything new, would have been content with the old eye2s.

Sad to say that as much as I spend on golf clubs and can't afford to, this is the cheapest and most tempting experiment to try. Then of course I'll end up wanting BeCu's and sh** will hit the fan....lol

Have an extra set of Becu eye 2 from 1989. I can't say the are original because the were black and returned to Ping in 1995 and rekeyed to blue dot and new grips put on them. They are like 9 out of 10 condition. 3-sw with microtaper shafts. don't know if I should keep them .sell them or re shaft them with nippons like I play now..........

Old topic - new response. PING nut here - I have a new set of G10XG irons, a like-new set of i5 irons, and an excellent set of Eye 2+ heads (blue dot, 2-SW). I have a set of RIFLE flighted tapers coming in for the EYE 2+ heads and after reading this thread, can't wait to try them out!

After reading through the thread, I'm taking out the EYE 2 Orange dots from high school for tomorrow's round. They will join the EYE 2 sand wedge that doesn't leave the bag.

Every now and then I will take me set out for a round after reading one of these threads. But I usually go right back to my current set as the old eye 2's just don't feel or perform as well for me. A great set in its day though.

Did anyone ever like the i/3s?

Very durable clubs and I've had and sold a few sets in my time, but I've never really played them.
I really liked the i/3's, still have a set of i3 blades as my backup set, I put them in play once or twice last season. In fact I played the I3's or I3 blades for over 10 years till the I15's came out and wish I had never spent the money as the I15;s were a disappointment to me, now I play Mizuno irons.

I do the same thing! I grew up playing Eye 2's and still love them! While my scores seem to be pretty much the same, at the end of the day I love my I5's just a little bit more!

Nice, I'm trying to decide to stick with my 1-L set of Eye 2s or get a set of G5s. If I do keep and play the Eye 2s a guyson finish for the set is in order.

As much as I am a die hard fan of Eye2s and classic Pings, I recommend taking a look at other Ping offerings. The G-series (except G25) are fairly chunky and are totally different animals.
i3+ is a sleeper with the right shaft, very high performing and square and blocky like the Eye2 Sq Grooves.
It all comes down to the right shaft. All Pings are good.

 • 2 months later...

I snagged a MINTY set of Eye 2+ irons at the Wash D.C. Golf Show this past January. I have played them 4 rounds and am still amazed at the playability of these old sticks. I am not a fan of the KT shafts. I just found a set of PING CFS pulls (new) from a set of the new model Karsten irons. They are called CFS Distance and I am told they are 1/4" longer. I'm going to reshaft the Eye 2+ heads with a modern PING shaft and see what happens. Results in a few weeks!
