Taylormade V-Steel: Band of Brothers

Count me in. Picked up a mint 15* with stock stiff. Only had one day warm enough to hit it so far, but not very fond of soft tip stock shaft. I want to give it another range session before deciding to reshaft or not.

Also have a mint 18* with ProLite35 stiff coming in the mail. Really looking forward to hitting that. Now if only it would just warm up a bit.

Bought a Diamana S+ shaft off Ebay and installed it in my V steel 5W and this is now my go-to club for 220 yards out. Great ball flight and easy to hit off the deck.

Loving my paint break V-Steel 21* 7w with white RIP Beta 70. Green REL 3gen grip to match the green eyes on the shaft. I used to dread the 200-210 shot, now I crave it so I can pull this club out of the bag. Better than any hybrid I've ever hit.

soft to flex and generally garbage, you do need to put something decent in one and then it is money

my incoming "excalibur" is a little newer than the v-steels

2007 burner tp 14.5*. My friend finally sold his to me .. for $50 bones. woo woo

Has a TP ReAx 55 in X .. and for whatever reason I can hit this on a rope off the deck or tee. Usually I need 17* to be half decent off the deck

Sorry to threadjack but I am amped for next season with two new hybrids coming in and this old style 3 wood. My 210 to 250 game should improve dramatically

It is just like how the old story goes .. don't ever let a good fairway wood get away (I broke a tisi Tec 17* with a speeder 952 x in it three years ago and have been searching since)

Fired up just got 15 for 9.95 plus tax. Not tour issued though And as you tell from pic, flawless they had others 18, 13 grpshite which were more $ and beat up. Reshafting anyhow hmm axiv core red 79s or epicX
That's a steal. I'm still trying to figure out what shaft to put in my 15. I like the ProLite in my 18, so might go that route if I can find one.

I joined the club in late summer 2006. I got it from an Edwin Watts in Jacksonville, Fl for $109. 15* with the stock regular flex. I played it for a year and then in a fit of (stupid) rage hit my bag after a bad shot and broke the shaft. In a hurry I went to Golfsmith and picked up a Snake Eyes graphite shaft out of the clearance bin and had it reshafted. The best thing I learned from that experience was that I had them build it 1" under standard length. I'm not a tall guy and prefer to play my driver at 44.5" so I figured what the heck, why not try the same concept with the my 3 wood. This is when I started hitting bombs with this club.

After a few years (yes I kept that piece of crap shaft in there for more than a while), I found a Prolaunch Blue 75g shaft on clearance for $10. Shafted it up, again at the shorter length and its been in my bag since. I find a way to hit bad shots with it but all in all its been great.

I've tinkered with some lead tape but still looking for some more height from it, so I may go on the hunt for a 16.5* in the near future. I tend to have a low ball flight even though shots hit with this thing seem to go forever. Regardless if I switch to a 4 wood, I will NEVER get rid of this club.

How does the stock shaft play? Soft or stiff to flex?
Soft for sure, however hit the thing first before replacing it. I've never been much for stock shafts on clubs but I hit the 3/5w so good with the stock shaft I've been weary of changing them out. I might do it this year but we'll see, I'm not much into tinkering with things that aren't broken.

Thanks, will not change it out until I get a chance to hit it outdoors (whenever that will be here in Chi-town land).

Glad it has worked out for you. I regretted selling that club to you at first, but have gotten comfortable with a Rescue 11 as a replacement.

 • 2 weeks later...

Just picked up a 13* t/s v steel fwy for 30 bucks at a play it again sports store. This thread intrigued me so I bought it even though I was looking at an exotics cb4 for 100 bucks.

Will try it later today. I have no idea what the shaft is.

What does the t/s mean?

Thanks.

Have one with a Xconn 7 in it, think I posted about it before, got it really cheap. Absolutely love it, hope yours works out for you!

I got some V Steels from eBay over the last few months, my first ones. I got a Tour Spoon, two 5-woods (had a low bid on one, bought another in better shape that ended sooner and I wanted more, but won the second one with my prior ridiculously low first-and-only bid; interesting explanation to the wife), and a 3-wood that turned out to be tour issue with a Speeder 757 X for $40. Took the Tour Spoon and the better 5-wood and put a Purple Ice 85 X in each. Have yet to hit a ball this season (something about my girls and their hockey seasons that never seem to end), but anxious to see how this goes. Always liked the older Taylormade fairway woods. For as much hype as TM's drivers have always received, I think their best work is with the fairway woods--at least their older stuff--but this is my first go-round with the V Steels. I have book-ended the V Steels with TM fairway woods of older and newer vintage. From what I read here, the V Steels just might be the best of the bunch. And the pear-shaped plain gloss black heads look great at address, much better than the white monstrosities with earth-tone-ier misaligned racing stripes. Seriously looking to getting out and hitting these.

I just put an 18* V Steel into into play last week for the first time. I bought it per the recommendations in this thread and I couldn't be happier with it. I had never hit a ball with it prior to my round last week, but I ended up hitting some very solid shots with it. Mine has a stock r-flex shaft and only set me back $20.

I sure miss my V Steels (15 and 18) that I had with the Harmon Tour Design shafts in them...wish I had never gotten rid of them.

I finally hit my 13* on Sunday. Felt pretty good. Was pretty forgiving compared to my RC tour vs. probably because it is a little bigger.

Hit it in a 20+ mph tailwind. So not sure how far I really hit it. I only have an 82 mph 6 iron speed so I'm not a long hitter by any stretch. But I ended up hitting it 260 to 270 when I really went after it. Again, that was with a huge tailwind. So I'm thinking in normal conditions I might be able to squeak 240ish out of it. That would be 10 yards further than my current 3 wood.

The shaft I guess is a stock s+ by rayon. I know nothing about it but my ball did not ballon. Though hitting down wind it is hard for me to see if it would ballon. Hitting into the teeth of the wind this weekend will give me more info.

Anyway, for 30 bucks it is worth playing around! Thanks again to all who have recommended this stick. Now I need a more aptimized shaft. I like mid launch shafts and my current Attas t2 shaft feels great. But that is pricey and I'm too cheap to get another. Does anyone have any low cost alternatives? Like in the 30 buck range?

Btw, please forgive any of my typos. My 2 year daughter is tugging at me to go play with her plastic golf clubs. Best wishes.

I have been gaming the R7 Steel Draw bias. Appears to be the same design as the V-Steel. Straight bomber with a slight draw. I have the 910F but for some reason I keep coming back to the R7. It was pretty banged up but saw how nice the whiteout look was from you guys and decided to sand it down and paint it up... Check out a few pics. Haven't touched the sole yet but thinking of an all black out look. What do you guys think.

Thanks to this thread I am now the proud owner of a 3 & 5 wood with the standard R flex MAS shafts. The 3 wood has replaced my recently purchased Ping Anser equivalent.

Whilst they are ok I can't help but thinking that they could be made even better. Shaft selection is a bit of a minefield so any suggestions for a 14 hcp, 91 mph ave driver swing speed would be appreciated.

"Carol Vorderman..... I was watching her the other day .....and I got aroused...............7 letters ... not bad for someone who left school at 15"
