The fans need to SHUT THE HELL UP when players hit. After spending the last 4 days at the PGA, I've had it with the Frat boy drunks, that act like they're at a football game. The guys following Tiger are the absolute worst. Sadly I think golf needs to revisit their alcohol policy, and that's too bad because I like beer a lot.

I'm curious to know- was there a certain demo/age that screams this s***? For some reason, I don't think it's college age kids... but the late 20/early 30 somethings who've come to realize that their life isn't what they had hoped for.

Maybe I'm projecting.

If looks could kill, the guy who shouted during Furyk's swing on 16 would have dropped on the spot. He should have been removed on the spot. Loved how on the next tee it wasn't until well after impact that there was any noise when Furyk tee'd off.

Yup. I saw that. Good for Jim. The PGA/USGA needs to do something. People need to get a warning, their picture taken and then they get ejected after a second time. Post the idiots pictures on the Internet. After the first one or two people get a warning, most of it would stop. It is a golf tournament no a dog fight or bear baiting. These people are idiots. People bring their children to these tourneys.

They look early to late 20's to me (legal drinking age is 21 in the US) .

I think the PGA should handle similarly as their electronic device policy enforcement team. If they observe a violation they mark your badge with a warning. Second time you're out.

For the idiots behind Furyk, they should have been ejected.

Keegan Bradley is going on Stern in a few weeks, you will hear him say it again: he loves hearing the baba booeying

And with Ian Poulter ruling up stern, the Barclays is going to have a ton of Baba Booeys.
I hope each 'mashed potatoes' 'baba booey' etc gets the donkey tossed and banned for a few years. Can you imagine someone doing that at The Masters, they'd never set foot on the grounds again

Exactly, it's obnoxious and like was said earlier this thread, it's not like there aren't other players in the middle of their swings when people shout

It's amazing to me that the Event Staff will stop you from taking silent iPhone photos from 30 yards away while players are walking down the fairway - but they have no issue with "MASHED POTATOES!!!!" from 7 yards behind the player as he swings.

Just finishing watching the PGA after DVRing it today (well done Dufner) and surely with this weekend's coverage the nadir of this nonsense has been reached.
The PGA tour has to do something now - unless they are still going to wait for fan/fan, fan/player fights to start - and get their bigwigs together and put something in place for the 2014 season, where you can and will be kicked out if you yell nonsense.

The PGA/USGA officials are too busy counting the money, smoking their pipes and drinking Scotch in their checked pants. It appears that as long as the riff raff pay to get in - the PGA/USGA look the other way. Shooter McGavin was right. :angry22:

reposting my solution (originally found on page 17 of this thread... that was FIVE pages ago). the morons were basically kept in check for 3 days. and then today happened. and i thought firestone was bad. sheesh.
i like the idea of fighting fire with fire. after some used tampon string yells out 'bababooey!' or some similar idiocy, a wrxer should yell out, 'shut the F up!'

do it enough and three things will happen:
1. the broadcast will be FORCED to cut the sound immediately following the shot due to FCC regulations and to avoid fines.
2. with the lack of airtime and attention, the vocal spasms of the mentally challenged will cease.
3. you will become a folk hero.

Today was bad. But it's going nowhere. Every tournament can't get away with the Augusta Ban. They need spectators.

I really think the future is stadium seating on the tee boxes a la Waste Management (pun).
Anyone who has ever done any music recording knows the saying "if everything is in 10, then nothing is on 10."

In a constant din, the baba booeys are lost. Then the cumulative effect is the same as silence for a pro who is used to it.

monkey - on the whole, i agree with you: this behavior isn't going anywhere (unless we can DO SOMETHING to change it).

but this was a MAJOR, not a regular tour event. banning fans from a once-in-10-year stop makes perfect sense, as the loss of a year-to-year customer isn't a reality. it really is a shame that the PGA and PGATOUR let it get to this level of awful.

Actually, it's mist practical at a major. The SuperBowl. NBA Finals. World Series. What's the euro equivalent? World Cup? Amp it up and merchandise it. Tiger fans out cheering Phil fans. Etc etc etc. but most of all it neutralizes the people trying to get their "hey look at me moment."

And golfers won't be distracted by the sound of cameras and Tiger can swear all he wants.
YES, TIGER CAN STILL SWEAR ALL HE WANTS and kids won't hear a thing. You know how many f-bombs are dropped during the playoffs in any sport? You don't hear them over the crowd noise.
Or maybe let players have theme music. Like Mo Riveras "Enter Sandman."

95% of the time it's guys in their 20s that have been drinking and egging each other on to do stupid stuff. Sometimes they aren't even that casual of golfers either, there just young and stupid and think it's funny because their idiot buddy laughed.

They want to make the money with beer sales, and the greed over that trumps the desire to stop it... period.

They should only sell beer in the clubhouse, not on the course. That way the people there to drink can drink, and the people there to watch the best players play can do that as well.

Barely anyone shouts at the UK version of the Open, and those that do get tutted to death.

Something needs to be done, however difficult it might be to enforce. It's like a highly infectious virus amongst dumb attention-seekers and a vaccine is urgently required. The unfortunate thing is not only does it effect the players, but also the 99% of normal, respectful golf fans at these tournaments who turn up to enjoy the spectacle. These idiots drag everyone else down with them.

During The Open, the BBC interviewed a few US players who commented how refreshing it was to be playing in a tournament mercifully free of imbeciles shouting from the sidelines. I'm paraphrasing obviously, but that was the gist of it. Says it all really.

Lol. He's right.

Thinking about it, has anyone written to or petitioned the PGA Tour about this? Something like that might make them realise how many people hate it and how much damage it's doing?

Of course, the might dollar will trump all in the end but it might be worth a try.

i still say the PGA tour is well aware of this and think it's no big deal..........if they did they would stop it asap. they have the means to end it.

Solution to address this:
1. Define and communicate the policy.
2. Enforce the policy with spotters that watch for yellers at the tee's. Upon first infraction the spotter marks your ticket, and upon the second infraction you're escorted off the premises for the day. (this is not hard since they have spotters for those taking pictures with phones).
